        Overexpression of rice phosphate transporter gene OsPT2 enhances nitrogen fixation and ammonium assimilation in transgenic soybean under phosphorus deficiency

        Phosphorus (P) deficiency is one of the major factors that limit legume nodulation and nitrogen (N) fixation, and thus legume productivity. In our previous study, we showed that three T2 transgenic soybean lines overexpressing rice phosphate transporter gene OsPT2 showed enhanced tolerance to low P stress. This study aimed to determine whether OsPT2 overexpression would increase N2 fixation and ammonium assimilation in three T3 homozygous transgenic lines (HTLs) under P deficiency in pot culture. Under low inorganic phosphate (Pi) conditions, the P accumulation, total N and total ureide concentrations were significantly higher in the T3 HTLs than in the wild type (WT) plants. Further, the T3 HTLs showed significantly better plant growth performance and nodule development than the WT plants under low-Pi conditions. Quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR) analysis showed that the expression levels of GmENOD40-1, GmENOD40-2 (two early nodulin genes), and GmLba (one leghemoglobin gene) were significantly increased in T3 HTLs under P deficiency at 24 and 32 d after inoculation (DAI). The increased transcript levels of GmGS1β1 and GmGS1β2 (two cytosolic glutamine synthetase genes) in the T3 HTLs were consistent with the increase in glutamine synthetase (GS, EC 6.3.1.2) activity at 32 DAI. Our results indicated that the overexpression of OsPT2 in T3 HTLs enhances N2 fixation and ammonium assimilation activity under low P stress.

        Novel method for equivalent stiffness and Coulomb’s damping ratio analyses of leaf spring

        The leaf spring is a representative type of laminated structure. Based on the linear theories of curve beams, the first derivatives of the leave’s status-vector of the leaf spring are provided. The first derivatives of the combination status-vector are obtained by properly dealing with the nonlinear interacted forces between adjacent leaves. Moreover, the precise integration technology and the transform matrix method are introduced to solve the equations. The force-displacement curve of a leaf spring is then calculated separately by using the present method and the finite element software ANSYS. From the results, the precision and advantages of the present methods for analyzing the leaf spring are revealed. The Coulomb’s damping ratio of the leaf spring is studied by using the present method.

      • A Systematic Review of MRI, Scintigraphy, FDG-PET and PET/CT for Diagnosis of Multiple Myeloma Related Bone Disease - Which is Best?

        Aim: The purpose of the current study was to conduct a systematic review of the published literature to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of FDG-PET, PTE/CT, MRI and scintigraphy for multiple myeloma related bone disease. Methods: Through a search of PubMed, EMBASE, and the Cochrane Library, two reviewers independently assessed the methodological quality of each study. We estimated pooled sensitivity, specificity, positive and negative likelihood ratios (PLR and NLR), and two sample Z-tests were conducted to evaluate for differences in sensitivity, specificity, area under the curve (AUC), and the $Q^*$ index between any two diagnostic modalities. Results: A total of 17 studies were reviewed. The MRI had a pooled sensitivity of 0.88, specificity of 0.68, AUC of 0.897, and $Q^*$ index of 0.828, whereas for MIBI, the corresponding values were 0.98, 0.90, 0.991, and 0.962, respectively, and for bone scan, they were 066, 0.83, 0.805, and 0.740, respectively. The corresponding values of MIBI were 0.98, 0.90, 0.991, and 0.962, respectively. For PET and PET/CT, the values were 0.91, 0.69, 0.927 and 0.861, respectively. Statistically significant differences were not found in the sensitivity, specificity, AUC, and $Q^*$ index between MRI, scintigraphy, FDG-PET and PET/CT. Conclusions: On the condition that X ray is taken as a reference in our study, we suggested that FDG-PET, PTE/CT, MRI and scintigraphy are all associated with high detection rate of bone disease in patients with MM. Thus, in clinical practice, it is recommended that we could choose these tests according to the condition of the patient.

        Preparation of Flame Retardant and Antibacterial Wood with Composite Membrane Coating

        A novel flame retardant and antibacterial composite membrane coating for wood surfaces was prepared by adding POSS-based phosphorous nitrogen flame retardant (later referred to as NH<sub>2</sub>-POSS) and silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) to chitosan (CS). The effects of NH<sub>2</sub>-POSS content (mass fractions of CS 0%, 0.5%, 1%, 3%, 5%, and 7%) on the structure and properties of the composite membrane coating on wood were investigated. The composite film was prepared by the method of blending and ducting. Contact angle, tensile property and antibacterial effects of the composite film were measured, and infrared spectroscopy was used. The results show that the addition of NH<sub>2</sub>-POSS can not only improve the toughness of the membrane, but also the flame retardancy of the membrane, which improves the application of the membrane in wood products. However, with the addition of NH<sub>2</sub>-POSS, the transparency of the composite membrane was weakened. The inhibitory effect of the composite membrane on the growth of Escherichia coli was enhanced with the increase in Ag NPs. This research provides a foundation for the application of functional wood.

        Limonoids from the roots of Trichilia sinensis and their cytotoxicities

        Six new compounds (1–4, 8, 10), along with six known limonoids (5–7, 9, 11, 12), were isolated from the roots of Trichilia sinensis. Their structures were elucidated on the basis of extensive spectroscopic methods including 1H NMR, 13C NMR, DEPT, HSQC, HMBC, 1H–1H COSY and ROESY experiments, as well as by comparison with the literature. All the compounds were evaluated for cytotoxicities against K562, SGC-7901 and BEL-7402 cell lines. Compounds 2, 7, 10, 11, and 12 showed weak inhibitory activity to the selected cell lines.

        SiOx interlayer to enhance the performance of InGaZnO-TFT with AlOx gate insulator

        We have fabricated indium-gallium-zinc (IGZO) thin film transistor (TFT) using SiOx interlayer modified aluminum oxide (AlOx) film as the gate insulator and investigated their electrical characteristics and bias voltage stress. Compared with IGZO-TFT with AlOx insulator, IGZO-TFT with AlOx/SiOx insulator shows superior performance and better bias stability. The saturation mobility increases from 5.6 cm2/V s to 7.8 cm2/V s, the threshold voltage downshifts from 9.5 V to 3.3 V, and the contact resistance reduces from 132 Ucm to 91 Ucm. The performance improvement is attributed to the following reasons: (1) the introduction of SiOx interlayer improves the insulator surface properties and leads to the high quality IGZO film and low trap density of IGZO/insulator interface. (2) The better interface between the channel and S/D electrodes is favorable to reduce the contact resistance of IGZO-TFT.

        Suppression of bias stress-induced degradation of pentacene-TFT using MoOx interlayer

        The bias stress effect in pentacene thin-film transistors (TFTs) with and without MoOx interlayer was characterized. The device without MoOx interlayer showed a large threshold voltage shift of 5.1 V after stressing with a constant gate-source voltage of 40 V for 10000 s, while at the same condition, the device with MoOx interlayer showed a low threshold voltage shift of 1.9 V. The results can be attributed to the stable interface between MoOx/pentacene and small contact resistance change for the device with MoOx/Cu electrode. Pentacene-TFTs with MoOx interlayer showed a high field-effect mobility of 0.61 cm2/V s and excellent bias stability, which could be a significant step toward the commercialization of OTFT technology.

        Microbiome-metabolomics analysis of the effects of decreasing dietary crude protein content on goat rumen mictobiota and metabolites

        Objective: The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of decreasing dietary crude protein content on rumen fermentation, mictobiota, and metabolites in goats. Methods: In an 84-day feeding trial, a total of twelve male Anhui white goat kids with initial body weight 15.9±1.13 kg were selected and randomly classified into two groups, feeding a normal crude protein diet (14.8% CP, NCP) or a low crude protein diet (12.0% CP, LCP). At the end of the experimental trial (on day 84), six animals were randomly selected from each group and were slaughtered to collect rumen fluid samples for the analysis of rumen fermentation parameters, microbiome, and metabolome. Results: The concentrations of ammonia-nitrogen, total volatile fatty acid, acetate, and propionate were decreased (p<0.05) in the LCP group in comparison with those in the NCP group. The abundances of genera Prevotella, Campylobacter, Synergistetes, and TG5, which were associated with nitrogen metabolism, were lower (p<0.05) in the LCP group compared with those in the NCP group. The levels of 78 metabolites (74 decreased, 4 increased) in the rumen fluid were altered (p<0.05) by the treatment. Most of the ruminal metabolites that showed decreased levels in the LCP group were substrates for microbial protein synthesis. Metabolic pathway analysis showed that vitamin B6 metabolism was significantly different (p<0.05) in rumen fluid between the two treatments. Conclusion: Decreased dietary protein level inhibited rumen fermentation through microbiome and metabolome shifts in goat kids. These results enhance our understanding of ruminal bacteria and metabolites of goat fed a low protein diet.         Improving the electrical performance of HfInZnO-TFTs by introducing a thin ITO interlayer

        We have fabricated hafniumeindiumezinc-oxide (HfInZnO) thin film transistors (TFT) with indiumetinoxide (ITO) interlayer. Compared with conventional HfInZnO-TFT, the electrical performance and bias stability of HfInZnO-TFTs with ITO interlayer are improved. HfInZnO-TFT with 4-nm-thick ITO interlayer shows a high mobility of 7.2 cm2/V s, a low threshold voltage of 0.13 V and a better bias stability. The performance enhancement is attributed to a decrease in interface trap state and an increase in carrier concentration. It suggests that introducing ITO interlayer at the ALD Al2O3/HfInZnO interface is an effective way to improve the electrical performance and bias stability.
