        The purpose of this research is to study the kinds of injures inflicted on middle school baseball players during sports activity. The subject of study is 168 students in 10 middle schools located in Seoul. With students answering a questionnaire given, the research is done by the Self-assessment recording method The collected research data were analyzed with the Frequency Evaluation method, which is sub-program of SAS. The result of the research on injures of baseball players is as follows; First, the injured parts of body are arms(39.58%), legs(18.35%), feet(14.37%), face(10.47%), abdomen(8.66%), chest(3.38%). Second, the symptoms of the injures are partial injures(30.69%), pains in movement(21.23%), snap sound in joint movement(17.14%), hypodermic bleeding(15.86%), muscular cramp(15.09%), The degree of the injures are joints(40.71%), muscles and tendon(35.22%), bones(19.55%), the mervous system(3.52%). Third, the situations when the injures were inflected are as follows; hit by batted balls(25.2%), bumped against fielders(6.6%), bumped against fences(1.0%), etc(16.3%). Fourth, the causes of the injures are mistakes of the players, the defects of equipment, the defects of facilities. Fifth, the occurrence rate of the injures is higher during training(67.41%) rather than during games(32.59%). In allpositions, afternoon training saw 60.82% of all the injures, morning training, 30.20%, night training, 8.57%, dawn training, 0.41%. Sixth, professional doctors treated 39.6% of all the injures, players themselves, 30.6%, coaches or managers, 22.4%, insurance companies, 0.4%, etc, 6.9%. For the treatment measures, there are physical therapy, balms, and PAS(Para-Amino-Salycylic)(20.8%), ice fomentation(18.8%), acuquncture and moxacautery(14.2%), operation(9.3%). Seventh, for the condition after treatment, players said; 'can use the injured parts of the body as well as they used to be' and 'continue using them though painful'(31.25%), 'the injured parts the body are often hurt'(20.09%), 'try not to use the parts of body feeling the pains'(13.39%), 'never use them'(4.02%), For the aftereffect of the injures, players said; 'continue using them though painful'(42.86%), 'can use them as well as before'(35.20%),'try not to use them feeling the pain'(11.22%), 'injured parks are often hurt again'(8.16%), 'never use them'(2.55%). Eighth, infielders felt the best mental condition after treatment, with outfielders, pitchers, and catchers in order.

        많은 바이오인포매틱스 관련 데이터베이스와 도구가 네트워크를 통해서 제공되고 있고, 이들을 효과적으로 활용하면 생물학적 분석을 적은 비용으로 우수한 결과를 얻을 수 있다. 이 논문에서는 주어진 질의에 대해서 잠재적으로 관련된 DNA 서열 정보를 획득하고, 분석자가 관심있는 항목을 선택하면, 선택된 항목에 대한 모든 DNA 서열 정보를 확보하고, 이들에 대해서 아미노산 서열로 자동변환하여 ORF라는 정보를 활용하여 가장 가능성이 큰 것을 추천하는 도구를 소개한다. 해당 도구에는 웹 로봇 기법과 ORF 검색등을 위한 생물학적 지식을 활용한다.

      • The effect of teacher`s emotional expression on the status of children group

        This study was focused on a change in status of a children group caused by teacher’s emotional expression. The primary aim was to investigate how teacher’s emotional expressions affect physiological and explicit responses from members of a children group. To experiment, five children who 4-6 years of age were selected as participants. To extraction of external and internal response in participants, multiple cameras were installed in the front and rear of participants. To give emotional stimulus each participant, a highly field-experienced day-care center teacher was hired. Through the hired teacher, five emotional expressions(Pleasant-Arousal, Pleasant-Relaxation, Unpleasant-Arousal, Unpleasant-Relaxation and Neutral) were presented. In this experiment, the teacher communicated emotions by means of nonverbal cue(such as voice tones, facial expression, gesture and postures). As a result, teacher’s emotion was confirmed to be passed to the children. Thus, teacher"s emotional expressions were shown to be able to easily affect to children.

        Effects of zinc oxide nanoparticles on gene expression profile in human keratinocytes

        Zinc oxide (ZnO) nanoparticle is added in various materials and products such as paints, plastics, ceramics, glass, rubber, pigments and sunscreen. Especially, ZnO nanoparticles are widely used in UV protection, because of their property of absorption ultraviolet light. Despite the widespread use of ZnO nanoparticles, there are many unknowns in understanding on their nanotoxicity and mechanisms. In this study, we evaluated the effects of ZnO nanoparticles on gene expression pattern of human keratinocyte cells. Total RNA was prepared from the exposure groups to ZnO nanoparticles with different surface charge, and cDNA microarray was performed using Agilent human whole genome array. Our study indicated that genes related to apoptosis and response to stress including heme oxygenase 1 (HMOX1), superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxidase (GPX), BNIP3L (adenovirus E1B 19 kDa interacting protein 3) and heat shock 70 kDa protein (HSP70) were up- and down-regulated in ZnO nanoparticles treated cells. Moreover, our results showed that ZnO nanoparticles induced intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) and oxidative stress. Antioxidant enzyme SOD levels were significantly higher and GSH levels were decreased in ZnO nanoparticles-exposed cells, respectively. The present study showed that up-regulation of these genes by ZnO nanoparticles could increase the production of ROS and oxidative stress. Therefore, ZnO nanoparticles could have a potential to product ROS through the perturbation of metabolic pathway, inducing oxidative stress. It also supported that the nanotoxicity mechanism could correlate with the active oxygen production, oxidative stress, apoptosis, and antioxidant defense mechanisms.

        An agonistic anti-Tie2 antibody suppresses the normal-to-tumor vascular transition in the glioblastoma invasion zone

        Tumor progression is intimately associated with the vasculature, as tumor proliferation induces angiogenesis and tumor cells metastasize to distant organs via blood vessels. However, whether tumor invasion is associated with blood vessels remains unknown. As glioblastoma (GBM) is featured by aggressive invasion and vascular abnormalities, we characterized the onset of vascular remodeling in the diffuse tumor infiltrating zone by establishing new spontaneous GBM models with robust invasion capacity. Normal brain vessels underwent a gradual transition to severely impaired tumor vessels at the GBM periphery over several days. Increasing vasodilation from the tumor periphery to the tumor core was also found in human GBM. The levels of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and VEGF receptor 2 (VEGFR2) showed a spatial correlation with the extent of vascular abnormalities spanning the tumor-invading zone. Blockade of VEGFR2 suppressed vascular remodeling at the tumor periphery, confirming the role of VEGF-VEGFR2 signaling in the invasion-associated vascular transition. As angiopoietin-2 (ANGPT2) was expressed in only a portion of the central tumor vessels, we developed a ligand-independent tunica interna endothelial cell kinase 2 (Tie2)-activating antibody that can result in Tie2 phosphorylation in vivo. This agonistic anti-Tie2 antibody effectively normalized the vasculature in both the tumor periphery and tumor center, similar to the effects of VEGFR2 blockade. Mechanistically, this antibody-based Tie2 activation induced VE-PTP-mediated VEGFR2 dephosphorylation in vivo. Thus, our study reveals that the normal-to-tumor vascular transition is spatiotemporally associated with GBM invasion and may be controlled by Tie2 activation via a novel mechanism of action.

      • S-345 Castleman``s disease in intrapulmonary lymph node presenting as solitary pulmonary nodule

        Castleman's disease is an uncommon lymphoproliferative disorder which can occur wherever lymph nodes are presens. Castleman's disease in the chest develops usually in mediastinal or hilar lymph node. A 53-year-old woman was admitted to our hospital for further evaluation of a pulmonary nodule detected incidentally in health check up.Computer tomography demonstrated that this nodule was 27×25mm, well-defined in the right upper lobe. On MRI of chest MRI, which was performed to further diagnosis, the nodule was located on perihilar area of the right upper lobe and showed high signal intensity in T2 weight imaging and rapid and strong enhancement in dynamic contrast image, suspected to be a sclerosing hemangioma. We performed right upper lobectomy with lymph node dissection and the pathologic examination revealed that the pulmonary nodule was Castleman's disease arising from an intrapulmonary lymph node. We here report a rare case of Castleman's diseas in intrapulmonary lymph node presenting as solitary pulmonary nodule, suggesting that Castleman's disease should be considered in patinet with a nodule in perihiarl area.

      • Proanthocyanidins from <i>Spenceria ramalana</i> and Their Effects on AGE Formation in Vitro and Hyaloid-Retinal Vessel Dilation in Larval Zebrafish in Vivo

        <P>Three new A-type proanthocyanidins (<B>1</B>–<B>3</B>), <I>ent</I>-epiafzelechin-(2α→<I>O</I>→7,4α→8)-<I>ent</I>-afzelechin 3′-<I>O</I>-β-<SMALL>d</SMALL>-glycopyranoside (<B>1</B>), <I>ent</I>-epiafzelechin-(2α→<I>O</I>→7,4α→8)-<I>ent</I>-epiafzelechin-(2α→<I>O</I>→7,4α→8)-<I>ent</I>-afzelechin (<B>2</B>), and <I>ent</I>-epiafzelechin-(2α→<I>O</I>→7,4α→8)-<I>ent</I>-epicatechin-(2α→<I>O</I>→7,4α→8)-<I>ent</I>-afzelechin (<B>3</B>), and three known compounds (<B>4</B>–<B>6</B>) were isolated from the whole plant of <I>Spenceria ramalana</I>. The structures of the new proanthocyanidins were established by spectroscopic and chemical studies. The inhibitory effects of compounds <B>1</B>–<B>6</B> on the formation of advanced glycation end products were examined in vitro. Compounds <B>3</B> and <B>6</B> showed the strongest inhibition, with IC<SUB>50</SUB> values of 17.4 ± 0.5 and 14.1 ± 1.6 μM, respectively. The effects of these isolates on the dilation of hyaloid-retinal vessels induced by high glucose (HG) in larval zebrafish were also investigated. Compound <B>3</B> reduced the dilation of HG-induced hyaloid-retinal vessels most effectively.         The Anti-Inflammatory Effect of IH-901 in HT-29 Cells

        20-O-($\beta$-D-Glucopyranosyl)-20 (S)-protopanaxadiol (IH-901) is one of the major metabolites of ginsenosides from Panax ginseng, and is suggested that IH-901 has been associated with various pharmacological and physiological activities. In this study, we demonstrate that IH-901 induced anti-inflammation in HT-29 human colon adenocarcinoma cells. Our results showed that IH-901 inhibited cell proliferation of HT-29 in a time- and dose-dependent manner. We also found that IH-901 was significantly decreased expression of iNOS compared with non-treated. We observed effect of IH-901 related with inflammatory genes using by cDNA microarray. We were known that the 34 inflammatory genes such as E2F, CDK6, TNF-$\alpha$, and PKC were down-regulated. Thus, these results suggest that IH-901 may have a potential preventive factor to improving cancer induced by chronic inflammation.
