고등학생의 자살생각에 대한 생활사건 스트레스와 사회적 지지 및 우울의 효과 = (The) effect of life event stress, social support, and depression on high school students' suicidal ideation

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구의 목적은 고등학생의 자살생각에 영향을 미치는 부정적인 환경인 생활사건 스트레스와 긍정적인 환경인 사회적 지지의 효과를 비교하고, 이들 간의 관계에서 우울의 매개효과를 밝히며, 생활사건 스트레스, 사회적 지지, 우울과 자살생각 간의 구조적 관계를 구명하는데 있다. 본 연구의 대상은 서울특별시, 인천광역시, 경기도, 강원도에 위치한 12개 고등학교의 2학년 학생 959명으로서 생활사건 스트레스 검사, 사회적 지지 검사, 우울 검사와 자살생각 검사를 실시하여 자료를 수집하였다. 자료 분석을 위하여 LISREL 8.54를 이용한 공분산구조분석을 실시하였다. 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 고등학생의 생활사건 스트레스(학교생활, 가정생활, 대인관계, 자아영역)는 자살생각에 유의한 직접적인 영향이 없는 것으로 나타났으나 사회적 지지(부모지지, 친구지지, 교사지지)는 자살생각에 유의한 직접적인 부적 영향(-.12)을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 생활사건 스트레스와 사회적 지지는 모두 우울에 직접적인 영향을 주었으며 우울에 대한 생활사건 스트레스 요인의 표준화 경로계수는 .45, 사회적 지지 요인은 -.41로 모두 통계적으로 유의하였다. 고등학생의 생활사건 스트레스와 사회적 지지의 우울에 대한 설명변량은 47%로 나타났다. 셋째, 고등학생의 우울은 자살생각에 직접적인 정적 영향을 주었으며 자살생각에 대한 우울의 표준화 경로계수는 .70이었다. 넷째, 생활사건 스트레스는 우울을 매개로 자살생각에 정적인 영향(.31)을 주고, 사회적 지지는 우울을 매개로 자살생각에 부적인 영향(-.28)을 주었다. 자살생각 전체변량에 대한 생활사건 스트레스, 사회적 지지, 그리고 우울의 총 설명변량은 58%였다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The major purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of life event stress, social support, and depression on high school students' suicidal ideation.
The research questions are as follows:
First, how do high school students' life event stress and social support affect their suicidal ideation?
Second, how do high school students' life event stress and social support affect their depression?
Third, how does high school students' depression affect their suicidal ideation?
Fourth, does high school students' depression show the mediating effect in the relationship among their life event stress, social support and suicidal ideation?
The survey was made by 959 students who were randomly sampled in second year students of 12 high schools in the Seoul Metropolis, Inchon Metropolitan Area, Gyeonggi Province and Gangwon Province with regard to region, department and sex.
Based on the result of preceding studies, the life event stress and social support, the depression, and the suicidal ideation were selected as independent variables, a mediating variable and a dependent variable, respectively, and the saturated models, which assume all possible relationships among these potential variables, were established. The life event stress scale, social support scale, depression scale and suicidal ideation scale were used to measure these variables. To analyze the collected data, a covariance structure analysis was made by using LISREL 8.54. The covariance matrix of measures was used as analytic data, and for estimation of the parameters, a maximum likelihood was applied.
The major findings of this study are summarized as follows:
First, high school students' life event stress(school life, home life, social relationship, ego-sphere) had not a significant and direct effect on their suicidal ideation, which it was not a direct factor that determines their suicidal ideation. But their social support(parents' support, friends' support, teachers' support) had a significantly and directly negative effect(=-.12) on their suicidal ideation, which the higher their social support was, their suicidal ideation had a tendency to get lower, and it was a direct factor that determines their suicidal ideation.
Second, both high school students' life event stress and social support had a direct effect on their depression. The standardization path coefficient of their life event stress factor and social support factor on their depression was statistically significant by .45 and -.41, respectively, which the higher their life event stress was, their depression had a tendency to get higher, while the higher their social support was, their depression had a tendency to get lower, meaning that their life event stress had higher relation than their social support. In the meantime, the explanation variable on their depression of their life event stress and social support was 47 percent.
Third, high school students' depression had a directly positive effect on their suicidal ideation. The standardization path coefficient of their depression on their suicidal ideation was .70, which the higher their depression was, their suicidal ideation had a tendency to get higher, and it was an important factor that determines their suicidal ideation.

Fourth, their life event stress had positive effect(=.31) on their suicidal ideation by the medium of their depression, while their social support had negative effect(=-.28) on their suicidal ideation by the medium of their depression. In the meantime, the total explanation variable on whole their suicidal ideation variable of their life event stress, social support and depression was 58 percent. This means that there was no direct relation between their life event stress and their suicidal ideation, but their life event stress had an indirect effect on their suicidal ideation through their depression, the complete mediating variable. In other words, the relation between two variables, which the higher their life event stress was, their depression had a tendency to get higher, had an indirectly significant effect on their suicidal ideation. In addition, their social support had a directly negative effect(=-.12) on their suicidal ideation and at the same time, it had an indirectly negative effect(=-.28) on their suicidal ideation through a partial mediating variable of their depression. In other word, the higher their social support was, their suicidal ideation had a tendency to get lower, and the relation between two variables had a indirectly and significantly negative effect on their suicidal ideation.
