Fruiting bodies of Pleurotus ostreatus (oyster) and Cantharellus cibarius (chanterelle) mushrooms underwent acid fermentation using 3 strains of lactic acid bacteria (LAB) as starter cultures. Polyphenol contents, antioxidant activities, and phenolic acid contents in fresh, blanched, and fermented mushrooms were investigated. Fruiting bodies of oyster mushrooms exhibited higher total phenolic contents than chanterelle mushrooms. Blanching caused a decrease in polyphenol contents and antioxidant activities in both mushroom types. No important differences were observed in total phenolic compound contents (measured using Folin-Ciocalteau reagent) in mushrooms using different LAB strains. Lactobacillus plantarum was the most useful microorganism for lactic acid fermentation of fruiting bodies for reduction of the pH value. The highest concentrations of single phenolic acids: gallic, homogentisic, and ferulic acids were present in mushrooms fermented using L. plantarum.

Nanocrystalline cerium oxide (CeO2) was used as an effective catalytic and adsorption material for thesafe removal of selected phosphorus compounds. Several CeO2 samples were prepared by a simple coprecipitationmethod with subsequent annealing at temperatures between 400–600 C, and their sorptionability for inorganic phosphates was studied together with their ability to decompose the organophosphoruscompound - paraoxon methyl (PO) - with the goal to find the relations between the sorptionand catalytic activity of the prepared materials. It was found that a complex set of physical and chemicalcharacteristics (surface area, crystallite size, pore volume/size, the number of surface hydroxyl groups)plays a crucial role in the governing of adsorption ability and catalytic activity. From the dependenceof some characteristics (i.e., the number of surface hydroxyl groups, BET surface area, crystallite size)on the annealing temperature and their mutual correlations, the model describing the degradation oforganophosphate compounds on the surface of cerium oxide was deduced.

Vitamin D Dependent Rickets Type 1A Caused by CYP27B1 Mutation

Vitamin D dependent rickets type 1A (VDDR1A) is an autosomal recessive disorder caused by mutations in CYP27B1 . Clinical findings are growth retardation, hypotonia, muscle weakness, hypocalcemic seizures, and radiological features of rickets. We aimed to present the VDDR1A case with a genetic study of CYP27B1 . The 14- month-old boy was admitted to the hospital due to a seizure. Serum calcium, phosphorus, alkaline phosphatase, parathyroid hormone (PTH), 25(OH) vitamin D, and 1,25(OH)2 vitamin D values were 5.1 mg/dL, 3.7 mg/dL, 705 IU/L, 429 pg/mL, 24.9 ng/mL, and 8.8 pg/mL, respectively. Radiological study showed cupping and fraying of the distal ulna and radius. The molecular genetic study revealed that the patient had a compound heterozygous mutation, Phe443Profs*24 and c.589+ 1G>A, in CYP27B1 . Genetic analysis of the family members presented that the mother was heterozygous for the mutation c.589+1G>A, and that the father was heterozygous for Phe443Profs*24. The patient was treated with calcium lactate and calcitriol. Until now, six Korean patients with VDDR1A have been studied. Including this case, Korean patients with VDDR1A were found to have only three different mutations in 14 alleles, indicating that the mutation in the CYP27B1 gene is homogeneous in the Korean population.
캄보디아 근로자의 산업급식 선택속성 중요도-만족도 분석

본 연구는 국내 캄보디아 근로자의 산업급식 선택속성의 중요도 만족도와 이들의 한국 총 근무기간에 따라 구분된 그룹별 산업급식 선택속성의 중요도-만족도를 비교 분석하였다. 주요 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 산업급식 선택속성의 중요도에서는 음식의 안전성, 주방의 청결성 등이 높게 나타난 반면 만족도에서는 음식의 안전성, 식기·식수대·비품의 청결성 등이 높게 나타났다. 둘째, 전체 표본의 경우 IPA 분석에 따른중점 개선에서는 음식의 영양, 식기반납구의 청결성, 직원의 용모 및 복장, 실내온도 적절성이 나타났다. 셋째, 한국에서의 총 직장 근무 기간별 분석에서는 중점개선 항목으로 2년 미만 그룹은 직원의 선속한 서비스가, 2년∼4년 미만 그룹은 음식의 영양, 실내온도 적절성, 직원의 선속한 서비스, 음식의 맛이, 4년 이상 그룹은 음식의 영양과 식기반납구의 청결성이 도출되었다. This study was conducted to find out the importance-satisfaction level of the industrial food selection attributes of Cambodian workers in Korea. The main findings are as follows. First, food safety, kitchen cleanliness, and cleanliness of utensils were high in the importance of industrial food selection attributes while food safety, cleanliness of utensils, and drinking fountains & fixtures were high in the satisfaction. Second, the key areas of improvement for whole sample were shown in the nutrition of food, the cleanliness of the tableware, the appearance & clothing of the staff, and the appropriateness of the room temperature. Finally, in group comparisons by total length of work in Korea, the key improvement areas appeared to be the rapid service of employees for groups less than 2 years, and the nutrition of food, the appropriateness of indoor temperature, the rapid service of food, and the taste of food for groups between 2 and 4 years. For groups more than four years, the nutrition of food and the cleanliness of tableware were to be the key areas of improvement.
