        Responses to Starch Infusion on Milk Synthesis in Low Yield Lactating Dairy Cows

        The effect of starch infusion on production, metabolic parameters and relative mRNA abundance was investigated in low yield lactating cows from 86 days in milk. Six Holstein cows fitted with permanent ruminal cannulas were arranged into one of two complete 3×3 Latin squares and infused with a starch solution containing 800 grams starch for 16 days. The three treatments were: i) ruminal and abomasal infusion with water (Control); ii) ruminal infusion with cornstarch solution and abomasal infusion with water (Rumen); iii) ruminal infusion with water and abomasal infusion with cornstarch solution (Abomasum). There were no significant differences (p>0.05) among the three treatments with low yield lactating cows in feed and energy intake, milk yield and composition, plasma metabolism, or even on gene expression. However, cows receiving starch through rumen performed better than directly through the abomasum during the glucose tolerance test procedure with a higher area under the curve (AUC; p = 0.08) and shorter half-time (t1/2; p = 0.11) of plasma insulin, therefore, it increased glucose disposal, which stated a lipid anabolism other than mobilization after energy supplementation. In conclusion, extra starch infusion at concentration of 800 g/d did not enhance energy supplies to the mammary gland and improve the lactating performance in low yield lactating cows.

        Parallel Gene Loss and Acquisition Among Strains of Different Brucella Species and Biovars

        The genus Brucella is divided into six species; of these, B. melitensis and B. abortus are pathogenic to humans, and B. ovis and B. neotomae are nonpathogenic to humans. The definition of gene loss and acquisition is essential for understanding Brucella’s ecology, evolutionary history, and host relationships. A DNA microarray containing unique genes of B. melitensis Type strain 16MT and B. abortus 9-941 was constructed and used to determine the gene contents of the representative strains of Brucella. Phylogenetic relationships were inferred from sequences of housekeeping genes. Gene loss and acquisition of different Brucella species were inferred. A total of 214 genes were found to be differentially distributed,and 173 of them were clustered into 15 genomic islands (GIs). Evidence of horizontal gene transfer was observed for 10GIs. Phylogenetic analysis indicated that the 19 strains formed five clades, and some of the GIs had been lost or acquired independently among the different lineages. The derivation of Brucella lineages is concomitant with the parallel loss or acquisition of GIs, indicating a complex interaction between various Brucella species and hosts.

        BSCP-MAC: A Blockchain-Based Synchronous Control Polling MAC Protocol for Wireless Sensor Networks

        In the era of 5G, the concurrency of users in wireless sensor networks increases dramatically, and a blockchain-based synchronous control polling MAC protocol (BSCP-MAC) is designed to avoid information collisions while accelerating information processing efficiency. The protocol proposes to add the polling control system to the underlying blockchain technology to achieve the purpose of system decentralization. Next, the system model and the data distribution method are analyzed, i.e., the packets within the block are served according to the synchronization method. Finally, combining the Markov chain system analysis model and probabilistic mother function analysis method, the scheme is verified in each of the three service strategies of Gated, Exhaustive, and Limited-1, and the results prove that the scheme is correct and feasible. Meanwhile, the three service policies under BSCP-MAC are also compared with each of the three service policies under the traditional single-server polling MAC (TSP-MAC) method respectively. The experiments prove that BSCP-MAC under the blockchain technology architecture significantly reduces packet latency and expands the system throughput. Moreover, all aspects of the system performance are greatly improved from the TSP-MAC, such as reduced network delay, improved information processing efficiency in the face of larger traffic, and increased network resource utilization.

      • A Fingerprint Recognition Scheme Based on Assembling Invariant Moments for Cloud Computing Communications

        <P>In cloud computing communications, information security entails the protection of information elements (e.g., multimedia data), only authorized users are allowed to access the available contents. Fingerprint recognition is one of the popular and effective approaches for priori authorizing the users and protecting the information elements during the communications. However, traditional fingerprint recognition approaches have demerits of easy losing rich information and poor performances due to the complex inputs, such as image rotation, incomplete input image, poor quality image enrollment, and so on. In order to overcome these shortcomings, in this paper, a new fingerprint recognition scheme based on a set of assembled invariant moment (geometric moment and Zernike moment) features to ensure the secure communications is proposed. And the proposed scheme is also based on an effective preprocessing, the extraction of local and global features and a powerful classification tool, thus it is able to handle the various input conditions encountered in the cloud computing communication. The experimental results show that the proposed method has a higher matching accuracy comparing with traditional or individual feature based methods on public databases.</P>

        Robust Adaptive Motion Control for Underwater Remotely Operated Vehicles with Velocity Constraints

        In this paper, robust adaptive control strategies are designed for Underwater Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs) with velocity constraints. First, robust control strategies are investigated for under-water ROVs, and then adaptive robust control strategies are further developed with online parameter estimation. To prevent the velocity constraint violation, the Barrier Lyapunov Function (BLF) is employed in Lyapunov synthesis. By ensuring the boundedness of the BLF, we also guarantee that the velocity constraints are not transgressed. The stability analysis of the closed-loop system is provided and all closed-loop signals are ensured to be bounded. Simulation results for 5 degree-of-freedom (DOF) underwater ROV demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

        Multidimensional Firefly Algorithm for Solving Day-Ahead Scheduling Optimization in Microgrid

        In this paper, an improved metaheuristic optimization algorithm based on the fi refl y algorithm, called multidimensional fi refl y algorithm (MDFA), is presented for solving day-ahead scheduling optimization in a microgrid. The proposed algorithm takes the output of power generations among a quantity of distributed energy resources during 24 h together rather than a single hour as a fi refl y separately. The proposed algorithm is combined with strategy of solving equality constraint replacing the use of the penalty-function technique. It is also enhanced by using a novel method in parameters self-adaption instead of applying fi xed values, resulting in avoiding tuning frequently the algorithm parameters during the process of optimization. The MDFA is utilized for optimization of energy production cost in a microgrid. The superiority of the MDFA is demonstrated by using the classic test power system proved in the previous literature. The solutions obtained by MDFA are compared with the results found by fi ve famous optimization algorithms. The high performance of MDFA is established by the quality with the minimum total cost, the reliability of gained solutions, the speed of convergence, and the ability to satisfy various constraints

      • A Clustering Algorithm Based on Zone in Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks

        Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks (VANET) is a wireless mobile ad hoc networks established on the inter-vehicle communication. Due to the special characteristics and the restrictions of roads, VANET shows characteristics of uneven nodes density, fast moving, high dynamic topology. So it is difficult to establish a stable link between nodes, and the reliability of data transmission declines rapidly with the increase of hops. Therefore, ensuring data reliability and rapid distribution is always a difficult point in the VANET research. Through analysis of vehicular ad hoc networks environment, we propose the node connectivity and the connectivity strength. By dividing the road environment into the segment area and the intersection area, respectively calculating and predicting the connectivity according to the road environment, we propose the zone based adaptive clustering algorithm (ZACA).
