<P>We demonstrate a simple, one-step synthesis of hybrid gold nanoparticle–graphene oxide nanosheets (Au–GO) through electrostatic self-assembly. This method affords a facile means of controlling the effective concentration of the active Au nanoparticles on the graphene sheets, but also offers the necessary stability of the resulting Au–GO nanostructure for catalytic transformation. Furthermore, this hybrid Au–GO is successfully employed in the catalytic reduction of a series of nitroarenes with high catalytic activity. Through careful investigation of the catalyst, we find the synergistic catalytic effect of Au nanoparticles and GO, further highlighting the significance of hybrid Au–GO nanostructure. <P>Water splitting is considered the most attractive pursuit in the field of solar energy conversion. In this study, we report the synthesis and application of a supramolecular hybrid of carbon nanodot (CD) and cobalt polyoxometalate (Co-POM) to solar water oxidation. The self-assembly of the alginate-based CD and Co-POM led to the formation of a spherical hybrid of CD/Co-POM. Owing to the facile transfer of photogenerated holes from CD under visible light irradiation, the hybrid donor-acceptor type of CD/Co-POM enabled the rapid scavenging of holes and accumulation of a long-lived oxidation state of Co-POM for efficient solar water oxidation, outperforming conventional [Ru(bpy)<SUB>3</SUB>]<SUP>2+</SUP>-based systems. We believe that this study offers new insights into the development of CD-based nanocomposites with various photocatalytic and optoelectronic applications.</P> [FIG OMISSION]</BR>

<P><I>NTRK1</I> gene fusions, the targets of multikinase inhibitors, are promising therapeutic targets for colorectal cancer (CRC). However, screening methods for detecting <I>NTRK1</I> gene fusions in CRC tissues have not been reported. In this study, we investigated the potential use of immunohistochemistry (IHC) for detecting <I>NTRK1</I> gene fusions. We performed and compared IHC with fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) in 80 CRC patients. TrkA immunostaining was observed to be both membranous and cytoplasmic and was scored semiquantitatively using staining intensity and proportions. The tumors were observed to be <I>NTRK1</I> gene fusion-positive when ≥20 out of 100 nuclei in FISH. A significant correlation between the IHC and FISH results for determination of the <I>NTRK1</I> gene fusions was observed. We measured the cytoplasmic TrkA expression, which showed an area under the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve of 0.926 (range: 0.864-0.987, 95% CI, <I>P</I> = .001). By choosing 4.5 (sum of the intensity and proportion scores of cytoplasmic TrkA expression) as the cut-off value for the positive and negative <I>NTRK1</I> gene fusion groups, the sensitivity and specificity for predicting lymph node metastasis were 100 and 83.8%, respectively (<I>P</I> = .001). Specifically, high cytoplasmic TrkA expression (sum of intensity and proportion scores >4) was associated with the presence of <I>NTRK1</I> gene fusions (<I>P</I> < .0001, r = 0.528). Taken together, our data showed that IHC for TrkA can be used as an efficient screening method for detecting <I>NTRK1</I> gene fusions in CRC.</P>
Incidence of Adult In-Hospital Cardiac Arrest Using National Representative Patient Sample in Korea

Objectives: This study analyzed the incidence and characteristics of in-hospital cardiac arrest (IHCA) in Korea based on a sample group of patients that is representative of the population. Methods: The incidence of IHCA in adults was extracted from HIRA-NIS-2009, a sample of all patients using medical services in Korea. IHCA patients were analyzed according to gender, age, type of medical institute, and classification under the 6th revision of the Korean Standard Classification of Diseases (KCD-6). In addition, to assess the differences arising from the size of medical institutes, the IHCA incidence was analyzed in relation to the number of inpatient beds. Results: Based on the sample data, the total incidence of IHCA in Korea was found to be 2.46 per 1,000 admissions (95% confidence interval [CI], 2.37–2.55). A higher incidence was found among men at 3.18 (95% CI, 3.03–3.33), compared to women at 1.84 (95% CI, 1.74–1.94). The incidence of IHCA was also higher in hospitals that had more than 600 inpatients beds at 5.40 (95% CI, 5.16–5.66) in comparison to those that had less than 600 inpatients beds at 4.09 (95% CI, 3.76–4.36) (p < 0.001). By primary disease, the incidence was the highest for infectious diseases. Conclusions: We demonstrated that the IHCA incidence based on gender, age, diagnostic group, and number of beds could be analyzed using the insurance claim data from a national representative sample.

<P>The pursuit of exceptionally high photoluminescence (PL) and stability is critical in the development of novel fluorophores for use in challenging bioimaging and optoelectronic devices. Carbon nanodots (CDs) doped with heteroatoms provide a particularly attractive means of effectively tailoring their intrinsic properties and exploiting new phenomena. Here, we report a one-step, scalable synthesis of boron-and-nitrogen co-doped CD (BN-CD) with outstanding optical properties unlike those of nitrogen-doped CD (N-CD) in solid state as well as solution. The detailed mechanistic framework was explored using a series of spectroscopic analyses and ultrafast spectroscopy coupled with density functional theory calculations, which all conclusively confirmed that the presence of more graphitic structures in the core and well-distributed surface states are responsible for the enhanced PL in BN-CD. Furthermore, single-molecule spectroscopy analysis demonstrated that a single BN-CD shows higher PL intensity and enhanced photobleaching time. We anticipate that this study will aid in uncovering the full potential of CDs in various fields.</P>

<P>We present a novel cathode fabrication technique for improved performance and production efficiency of SOFCs based on an infiltration method assisted by layer-by-layer (LbL) assembly of polyelectrolytes. Preparation of the electrode with LbL-assisted infiltration leads to a 6.5-fold reduction in the electrode fabrication time while providing uniform and small formation of Pr<SUB>0.7</SUB>Sr<SUB>0.3</SUB>CoO<SUB>3-δ</SUB> (PSC) particles on the electrode. The increased surface area by 24.5% and number of active sites of the prepared electrode exhibits superior electrochemical performance up to 36.1% while preserving the electrical properties of the electrode.
