Dopant-dependence on Charge-orbital Order in Impurity Doped Layered Manganites
Yuki Yamaki,Yuichi Yamasaki,Hironori Nakao,Youichi Murakami,Yoshio Kaneko,Yoshinori Tokura 한국물리학회 2013 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.63 No.3
In this study we have investigated dopant effects on a typical charge-orbital ordered state ina single layered manganite La0.5Sr1.5MnO4 using magnetization measurement and resonant x-rayscattering technique. We have studied how the charge-orbital ordered state is affected by the 3%substitution of Cr, Fe and Ga ions for Mn ions. It is revealed that the impurity doping suppresses thelong-range charge-orbital order, in which the degree of suppression strongly depends on dopant ions, and eventually forms a phase-separated ground state between charge-orbital order and ferromagneticstates.
Behavior of piston rings passing over cylinder ports in two-stroke cycle engines
Kohei Nakashima,Yuki Nakano,Soichi Ishihara,Yoshio Murakami,Masago Yamamoto 대한기계학회 2010 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.24 No.1
In two-stroke cycle engines, the piston and piston ring slide over not only the cylinder wall but also the cylinder ports. This study investigates whether piston rings project and get caught in the cylinder ports. We installed strain gauges, on the bottom sides of piston rings, over the intake and exhaust ports, and plotted the variation of strain per cycle, while running the engine. By examining the variation in strain on the bottom of the piston ring, we clarified that our piston ring indeed became momentarily caught in the cylinder ports.

Yukitaka Shinoda,Shingo Murakami,Yuki Mito,Reishi Watanuma,Mieko Marumo 제어로봇시스템학회 2009 제어로봇시스템학회 국제학술대회 논문집 Vol.2009 No.8
The aim of this study is to use motion analysis as a tool for classifying styles, schools of Nihon Buyo (traditional Japanese dance) and differences in proficiency. We report on a basic study of motion analysis in which we calculated the center of gravity and rotation angles of dancers of different age from the same school to further our aim of using motion capture to analyze the flow of actions in dance routines in order to subject Nihon Buyo to motion analysis.

Objective: Glycemic control varies based on lifestyle factors and stress coping mechanisms, which are influenced by personality. The psychological factors associated with glycemic control have not yet been established in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). The relationship between a 5-factor model of personality and glycemic control was evaluated in individuals with T2DM. Methods: The subjects were 503 Japanese outpatients with T2DM. Glycated hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) levels, depressive status, insomnia and personality traits were assessed. Lifestyle factors of the patients, such as habitual alcohol consumption and smoking, were also included in the analyses. ResultsBecause the influence of insulin therapy on HbA1c is so strong, we stratified the patients according to : insulin use. Simple regression analysis showed a significant correlation between HbA1c and neuroticism in patients who did not use insulin. After adjustment for confounders, multiple regression analyses revealed that none of the personality factors, including neuroticism, were found to be associated with HbA1c. Conclusion: These findings suggest that personality traits do not have a large impact on glycemic control. Further studies are required to confirm the relationships between psychological factors and glycemic control using a longitudinal study design.

Abstract

The ciliate Miamiensis avidus causes scuticociliatosis in Japanese flounder Paralichthys olivaceus. We previously reported three serotypes of this ciliate distinguishable by serotype-specific antigenic polypeptides (serotype I, 30kDa; serotype II, 38kDa; serotype III, 34kDa). In this study, we determined the localization site of the serotype-specific polypeptides in the ciliate and determined the genes encoding the polypeptides, using the isolates IyoI (serotype I), Nakajima (serotype II), and Mie0301 (serotype III). SDS-PAGE and immunoblot analysis of cilia, membrane proteins, and cytoskeletal elements of the ciliates revealed that the polypeptides were abundant in the former two. Scanning electron microscopy of ciliates immobilized by homologous antiserum showed morphological changes in the cilia. These evidences suggested that the polypeptides were ciliary membrane immobilization antigens. The ciliary genes identified showed low identity scores—<51.5% between serotypes. To differentiate the serotypes, we designed serotype-specific PCR primer sets based on the DNA sequences. The PCR-based serotyping results were completely consistent with conventional serotyping methods (immobilization assay and immunoblot analysis). Twenty of 21 isolates were classified as either serotype I or II, and one isolate was undistinguishable. The combination of species-specific PCR previously reported and three serotype-specific PCR could be useful for identifying, serotyping, and surveillance for occurrences of new serotypes of M. avidus.

Highlights

Three serotypes of M. avidus were reported in Japan and Korea.

Serotype-specific polypeptides were identified as ciliary membrane proteins.

The nucleotide sequences of ORFs were determined.

Serotype-specific PCR revealed that the pandemic serotypes were serotype I and II.

Gastric adenocarcinoma of the fundic gland mucosa type (GA-FGM) was proposed as a new variant of gastric adenocarcinoma of the fundic gland type (GA-FG). However, at present, the influence of Helicobacter pylori and the speed of progression and degree of malignancy in GA-FGM remain unclear. Herein, we report the first case of intramucosal GA-FGM that was endoscopically observed before and after H. pylori eradication over 15 years. The lesion showed the same tumor size with no submucosal invasion and a low MIB-1 labeling index 15 years after its detection using endoscopy. The endoscopic morphology changed from 0-IIa before H. pylori eradication to 0-IIa+IIc and then 0-I after H. pylori eradication. These findings suggest that the unaltered tumor size reflects low-grade malignancy and slow growth, and that the endoscopic morphology is influenced by H. pylori eradication.
