Background/Aims: This study aimed to evaluate the prevalence and natural progression of subepithelial lesions (SELs) in the uppergastrointestinal (UGI) tract. Methods: The medical records of patients with UGI SELs who underwent endoscopic screening at eight university hospitals betweenJanuary and December 2010 were retrospectively investigated. The follow-up evaluations were performed until December 2016. Results: UGI SELs were found in 1,044 of the 65,233 participants screened (endoscopic prevalence, 1.60%; the total number of lesions,1,062; mean age, 55.1±11.2 years; men, 53.6%). The median follow-up period was 48 (range, 8–74) months. SELs were most frequentlyfound in the stomach (63.8%) and had a mean size of 9.9±6.1 mm. Endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS) was performed in 293 patients(28.1%). The most common lesions were leiomyomas, followed by gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs), and ectopic pancreas. The pro-portions of SELs with malignant potential according to size were 3% (<1 cm), 22% (1–2 cm), 27% (2–3 cm), and 38% (≥3 cm). In gastricSELs larger than 1 cm, resections were performed in 20 patients because of an increase in size, of which 12 were found to be GISTs. Conclusions: The prevalence of UGI SELs was 1.60%. Further, 23% of gastric SELs ≥1 cm were precancerous lesions, most followed byEUS and clinical decisions without initial pathological confirmation.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer and a frequent cause of cancer-related deaths among women wordlwide. As therapeutic strategies for breast cancer have limitations, novel chemotherapeutic reagents and treatment strategies are needed. In this study, we investigated the anti-cancer effect of synthetic homoisoflavane derivatives of cremastranone on breast cancer cells. Homoisoflavane derivatives, SH-17059 and SH-19021, reduced cell proliferation through G2/M cell cycle arrest and induced caspase-independent cell death. These compounds increased heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) and 5-aminolevulinic acid synthase 1 (ALAS1), suggesting downregulation of heme. They also induced reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation and lipid peroxidation. Furthermore, they reduced expression of glutathione peroxidase 4 (GPX4). Therefore, we suggest that the SH-17059 and SH-19021 induced the caspase-independent cell death through the accumulation of iron from heme degradation, and the ferroptosis might be one of the potential candidates for caspase-independent cell death.

Cross-sectional imaging plays an increasing role in the diagnosis of appendiceal diseases due to known high negative appendectomy rate. It is important for radiologists to be aware of the computed tomographic(CT) appearances of various pathologies and common associated findings which can mimic other diagnostic entities. In this article, the author illustrates the CT appearances of a spectrum of appendiceal disaeses and outlines potential diagnostic pitfalls.

Of total 1,438 specimens of patients with diarrhea in Seoul, 2011, 217 samples (15%) were found pathogenic Escherichia coli that included 192 strains (89%) of enterotoxigenic E. coli (ETEC) and enteroaggregative E. coli (EAEC). The highest isolation rate for ETEC and EAEC was found in August and September. Sixty two pathogenic E. coli strains (34 ETEC and 28 EAEC strains) were selected from 175 strains (94 ETEC and 81 EAEC strains) isolated in August and September. Of 94 strains characterized for ETEC phenotype, 76 (81%) expressed heat-stable toxin (ST) only. Antimicrobial susceptibility test was carried out by using sixteen types of antibiotics. A high level of antimicrobial resistance to tetracycline (57%), ampicillin and ticarcillin (54%) was observed among EAEC isolates while the highest resistance rate of ETEC was found for nalidixic acid (47%), followed by tetracycline (32%). As to the antimicrobial susceptibility test, EAEC showed the complicated multi-drug resistant patterns in which the resistance was higher than ETEC. Pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE) was carried out to examine the genetic relatedness among ETEC and EAEC isolates. Except for 11 strains, 51 strains were divided by eight pulsotypes. In PFGE analysis, isolates from foodborne disease outbreaks in August and September 2011 showed close relation.
근로자들의 고용안정성에 대한 인식과 혁신활동 간의 관계

무한경쟁시대에 생존의 필수적인 요소가 혁신으로 인식되면서 혁신을 제고할 수 있는 영향요인을 찾는 연구가 활발히 진행되고 있다. 본 연구는 혁신활동이 고용안정성에 어떠한 영향을 받는지를 실증적으로 분석하였다. 타 연구와 달리 개인수준에서 연구가설을 검증하기 위해 편의추출법에 의해 중소 제조기업의 종사자를 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하여 612부를 회수하였다. 연구결과 고용안정성이 혁신활동에 영향을 미친다는 가설을 검증하였다. 또한 고용안정성을 측정하였던 직위안정성 및 상황통제력이 조직 정체성을 매개로 혁신활동에 영향을 미친다는 점을 발견하였다. 이 연구는 고용안정성이 높으면 혁신활동이 저하된다는 일부 이론이나 상식과는 반대의 실증결과를 보여준다. 고용안정성의 영향에 관한 연구가 국내에 많지 않은 현실에서 본 연구는 고용안정성에 대한 이론적 논의를 보다 심화시키는 데 기여할 것으로 기대된다. 또한 고용불안정이 큰 사회문제로 대두되고, 기업이 여기에 대응하여야 하는 상황에서 중요한 실무적 시사점을 제공하고 있다. 고용안정성이 혁신활동에 기여를 한다는 것을 증명함으로써 고용안정성 제고가 단순히 근로자의 안정욕구를 충족하는 것이 아니라 기업의 혁신활동을 촉진할 수 있다는 점을 보여준다. 더불어 실무적으로 고용안정성을 단순한 하나의 개념이 아닌 직위안정성과 상황통제력이라는 구성요소를 통해 접근할 수 있다는 점을 보여준다. 이는 기업과 근로자가 혁신을 제고하기 위해서는 보다 구체적으로 고용안정을 실행할 수 있는 방안을 모색하여야 한다는 점을 지적한다. The purpose of this study is to examine whether and how innovative activities are influenced by job security. To verify the research hypothesis at the individual level we collected the 612 survey data from 1,000 employees who worked for small-sized manufacturing companies. According to the research, job security facilitates innovative activities. And this research finds that positional stability and situational control power lead employees to activity participate in innovation activities through organizational identity. This research result is opposite to common sense that job security demotes innovative activities. This research presents a practical implication to Korea when it suffers from high employment instability and stagnant innovation at the same time. This study suggest that companies and employees improve positional stability and situational control power in order to enhance innovation. This will sustain their win-win solution. Moreover, this research may contribute to expand the aspect of advance academic research on job security while there exist little research on the effects of job security can contribute to innovation activities. Also, this research presents that job security is not a notion but the alternative by using of the positional stability and situational control power. Finally, The limitation of this research is discussed.

자동색인(Automatic Indexing)의 색인어 추출 방법으로는 어휘 사전을 이용한 방법과 조사의 배열순위 정보를 이용한 방법이 주로 사용된다. 전자의 경우 어휘 사전의 구축과 신조어와 같은 미등록어의 처리에 어려움이 있으며, 후자의 경우는 불용어 사전의 구축이라는 불편함이 있다. 본 논문에서는 전자의 미등록어 처리에도 적용 가능하도록, 조사의 배열순위 정보를 확장하여 전 품사에 대한 배열순위 정보를 구성, 어휘 사전이 없을 경우에도 형태소 분석을 수행하여 명사를 자동으로 추출하도록 하는 방안을 제시한다.
