Ocean Thermal Energy conversion(OTEC) technology is one of OTEC technology refer to a mechanical system that utilizes the natural temperature gradient that exists in the tropical ocean between warm surface water and the deep cold water, to generate electricity and produce other economically valuable by-products. The selection of working fluid and working conditions of the OTEC’s cycle has a great effect on the system operation, and it’s energy efficiency and impact on the environment.Working fluids of the OTEC is Ammonia, R22, R407c, R410a. Ammonia have a large heat capacity. But, ammonia is difficult to treat. R22 has been proposed as the working fluid instead of ammonia due to toxicity problems, it would be prohibited according to the Montreal Protocol. Therefore, more research is needed on developing more suitable working fluid substitutes. It is a R407c, R410a. In this paper, the optimization of and Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion(OTEC) system is carried out by the Powell method (according to the Workin g Cycle and Working Fluids).

It is important to analyze characteristics of real-time ATM traffic in order to control ATM traffic efficiently. VBR(variable bit rate) traffics such as real-time video traffic and audio traffic are monitored and analyzed based on data obtained from LAN traffic at Cheju National university. ATM traffic characteristics from the measured data are discussed. Cumulative density function(CDF) and traffic generation function (TGF) are obtained from the measured data. The traffic data generated from the TGF and the measured data are compared and the results show that the traffic data generated from the TGF is similar to the measured data. The TGF can be used to design congestion control algorithms, to implement communication protocols, and to develop switching architectures for the ATM network.
위암세포주에서 Recombinant Human Interferon-r와 Adriamycin의 투여순서가 항암효과에 미치는 영향

Numerous previous studies, both in vitro and in vivo, have demonstrated that the cytotoxicity can be enhanced by the combination of chemotherapeutic agent and interferons(IFNs) in various types of cancer cells. We have previously reported that combined treatment of MKN-45, human gastric adenocarcinoma cells, with adriamycin(ADM) and recombinant human interferon-r(rh-IFN-r) increased in the cytotoxicity. In this study, the effects of combination timing of rh-IFN-r and ADM on the cytotoxicity against MKN-45 were investigated using MTT assay. MKN-45 was treated with rh-IFN-r and ADM in vitro on three schedules : Treat A ; rh-IFN-r and ADM were treated simultaneously, Treat B ; rh-IFN-r was treated 24 hours after the treatment with ADM, Treat C ; rh-IFN-r was treated for 72 hours and followed by the treatment with ADM. The survival of MKN -45 was inhibited by ADM dose-dependently. 102 and 103U/ml of rh-IFN-r significantly inhibited the survival of MKN-45(% survival : 35.1 ±-1.2% and 34.4 ±1.1% in Treat A and 42.5 ± 2.1% and 45.9-±2.5% in Treat C, respectively). However no difference in the survival was observed between 102 and 103U/ml of rh-IFN-r. Combined treatment with rh-IFN-r and ADM significantly augmented the cytotoxicity at low concentrations of ADM. Combined effects of rh-IFN-r and ADM were evaluated using IC30(,ag/ml) to ADM. IC30s of MKN-45 in Treat A, B and C at 102 U/ml of rh -IFN-r _ were 0.019 -?- 0.003, 0.045 :I:0.001 and 0.054 ± 0.012, respectively, while IC30 of MKN-45 treated with ADM alone was 0.052±0.004. IC30s of MKN-45 in ADM alone group, Treat A, Treat B and Treat C at 103U/ml of rh-IFN-r were 0.047 ±0.003, 0.004 -±0.001, 0.031 ±0.004 and 0.056 0.008, respectively. These results indicate IC30s of Treat A and B were significantly lower than those of ADM alone(p<0.05) and IC30s of Treat A was significantly lower than those of Treat B(p <0.01). IC30s of Treat C, however, were not different from those of ADM alone. From these results demonstrating that cytotoxic effects were increased by the combination of rh-IFN-r and ADM in the order, Treat A > Treat B> Treat C, it can be concluded that the simultaneous administration of rh-IFN-r and ADM may be the most effective method to combine these two therapeutic modalties.

<P>Formyl peptide receptors (FPRs) are chemoattractant receptors that mediate inflammatory cell responses to infection. Recent evidence indicates that noneosinophilic asthma phenotypes can be developed by both Th1 and Th17 cell responses when exposed to LPS-containing allergens. In this study, we evaluated the effects of airway activation of FPRs by their synthetic agonist, Trp-Lys-Tyr-Met-Val-D-Met (W-peptide), on the development of Th1 and Th17 cell responses in a noneosinophilic asthma mouse model. A noneosinophilic asthma mouse model was generated by intranasal sensitization with 10 μg of LPS plus 75 μg of OVA on days 0, 1, 2, and 7. Mice were then challenged with 50 μg of OVA alone on days 14, 15, 21, and 22. W-peptide was administered during the sensitization period, and immune and inflammatory responses were evaluated after OVA challenge. Lung inflammation after OVA challenge was partly abolished by airway activation of FPRs during sensitization. Maturation of dendritic cells (DCs) and migration of DCs from the lung to lung-draining lymph nodes were inhibited by FPR activation. In addition, airway activation of FPRs inhibited allergen-specific T cell proliferation in the lymph nodes. Production of IL-12 and IL-6 (Th1- and Th17-polarizing cytokines) from lung DCs was decreased by airway activation of FPRs. This effect resulted in the inhibition of allergen-specific Th1 and Th17 cell responses. Airway activation of FPRs during sensitization effectively prevents the development of Th1 and Th17 cell responses induced by LPS-containing allergens via multiple mechanisms, such as inhibition of DC maturation and migration and the production of Th1- and Th7-polarizing cytokines.</P>
전과정평가를 통한 핸디형 청소기의 친환경적 디자인 개발

국가별 환경 규제 강화에 따라 환경친화적 제품설계에 대한 필요성이 증대되고 있다. 본 연구는 상용화된 핸디형 청소기 두 종의의 성능, 사용성, 전과정평가를 통해 비교하여 친환경적 제품 개선 전략을 수립하였다. 성능 평가는 흡입 범위, 흡입력, 소음 발생량, 전력량의 4가지 측면에서 평가하였다. 사용성 평가는 파지 적절 성, 청소 편의성, 충전 편의성 등 10가지 항목을 5점 척도(1점: 매우 불만족; 5점: 매우 만족)로 평가하였다. 마지막으로 에코디자인 프로세스를 활용한 전과정평가 수행 결과, 핸디형 청소기는 사용 단계에서 환경 영향이 가장 높은 것으로 파악되었다. 본 연구는 성능, 사용성, 전과정평가 결과를 활용하여 에너지 효율과 사용성 측면에서 핸디형 청소기의 친환경적 개선 방안을 제안하였다. 본 연구를 통해 제안된 개선 방안을 적용할 경우 핸디형 청소기의 탄소배출량을 약 8 kg·CO2-eq./EA 감소시킬 수 있을 것으로 예상된다. Needs for eco-friendly product design have increased as environmental regulations and public awareness have raised. The present study was performed to develop eco-friendly product design concepts by comparing performance, usability, and environmental impact assessments of two handy vacuum cleaners. Performance measurements of the vacuum cleaners such as suction area, suction power, noise, and electric power were collected. Usability assessments of the vacuum cleaners such as feeling of grip, easiness of cleaning, easiness of recharging were surveyed using a 5-point scale(1: very dissatisfied and 5: very satisfied). Finally, an LCA on the vacuum cleaners was performed, showing the use phase of vacuum cleaner had the highest environmental impact among the product life cycle stages. Eco-friendly product design concepts were proposed based on the assessment results of performance, usability, and LCA. The proposed eco-friendly product design concepts can reduce about 8 kg·CO2-eq./EA for handy vacuum cleaner.
