TiN/TiSi₂-bilayers were formed by reactive sputter deposition in mixed gas of Ar+N₂ on the TiSi₂/Si(100) substrate, which TiSi₂ film was grown by means of the Ti sputtering, and the coevaporation of Ti and Si(Ti : Si = 1 : 2) on the Si(100)-2 ×1 substrate followed by in-situ annealing in ultrahigh vacuum. Stoichiometric Ti??N?? films with (111) texture determined XRD, RBS and XPS were grown at substrate temperature over 600℃, while films prepared at substrate temperature below 600℃ showed N-rich TiN, and the high quality TiSi₂ film was obtaind from the Ti/Si(100) and (Ti+2Si)/Si(100) samples annealed at 700℃. It is capping effect that the TiSi₂ film in the TiN/TiSi₂/Si(100) structure does not occure the agglomeration phenomena. The sheet resistance of the TiN/TiSi₂-bilayer prepared at 700℃ showed 0.39Ω/㎝².

Since Samkook Era in Korean history the cultural exchange between Korea and Japan has been brought closer together, therefore, the cultural innovations or variations of one country cause sensitive responses of the other. Japan's highly economic growth changed not only her economy and society but also the trends in the sciences. It is certain that such recent trends in science would be affect that of Korean sciences. This study is put the purpose to help determining the directions of human and social sciences in Korea by understanding of their recent trends in Japan. But only literature, law and geography (especially economic and population geography) are treated here among many fields of human and social sciences in Japan. The authors had been to Japan from Feb. 15 to 24, 1981 to collect the data from the relevat institutions or individuals in Japan. The findings on the trends are as follows; (1) In general the recent trend of the literature study in Japan is not so different from the past except the more diverse approaches of the modern literature than the classic. It would seem that the trend of modern literature is moving from chronologic approach to spatial approach. The area of modern literature is closely related with comparative literature but it is impossible to clarify effectively the problems of the modern literature by the only literature study, and it is recent trend to introduce medical knowledges such as a case clinical history, clinical psychology and psychopathology. (2) It would be dominant opinions among Japan's social scientist that social science must be the science of comprehensive recognition, an empirical, practical and historical science. And in future it is desirable to study the law concretely and practically based on the epistemology, formal logic and social dialectic. (3) Economic geography (especially agricultural and industrial geography) is traditionally most important position in geography together with geomorphology in Japan, and recently the studies of commercial geography and regional development become active as the newer fields of economic geography. But it would seem that the attempt to construct the general theory of economic geography has not yet been successful. (4) The study of population geography in 1970s is quantitatively increased in Japan. Its main issue in the early half of 1970s is the underpopulation problem in the rural areas; in the latter half the overpopulation in the metropolitan regions and the return flow from there are most interested problems.

We studied insect fauna in the Samchun-impoundment during the period of from September 1997 to August 1998. The total number of insect taxa are composed to 95 species in 86 genera, 39 families and 8 orders in this examination.
Development of QTL-NIL to Blast Resistance Origined from Korean Weedy Rice

Rice blast caused by the fungal pathogen, Magnaporthe oryzae, is a serious disease affecting yield loss and decreasing its quality in rice production. Rice breeders in Korea have developed many japonica varieties showing resistance to blast. However, the blast resistance in most japonica varieties has broken down within a few years after they were released to farmers because of the spread of new virulent races of M. oryzae. There is the most effectiveness to look for novel resistant gene(s) that can express the resistance to broad-spectrum races in diverse environmental conditions. We identified a major QTL, qLB4.1 linked tightly to RM6352 and RM3643 in 52.6 cM region on chromosome 4 related to the resistance for isolate inoculation and nursery test, and neck blast from a Korean weedy rice, Geumleungaengmi33. This QTL explained 26.1∼28.6% and 45.3∼53.1% of total phenotypic variation by the allele of GL33 for isolate inoculation and nursery test, respectively. A line SR30058(52)-1-1 (Suweon545) that containing the QTL qLB4.1 was developed from Ilpum*4/GL33 by marker-assisted backcross method. This line showed resistant reactions to blast nursery test across regions and years, and resistance to neck blast at the hot-spot field in Jecheon. Suweon545 showed also durable resistance of lower 10% of diseased leaf areas (DLAs) in sequential planting method. This line screened by graphical mapping using 136 SSR markers that evenly distributed on 12 chomosomes. Suweon545 contained GL33 alleles of donor parent in a total of 12 loci (8.8%) including QTL region on chromosome 4. In future, Suweon545 would be useful to develop the broad-spectrum resistance variety in japonica rice breeding program.

N/A Most cystic lesions of the pancreas are pseudocysts, however, 10% to 15% are cystic neo- plasms, including serous cystadenoma and mucinous cystic neoplasms(mucinous cystadenorna and cystadenocarcinoma). Pseudocysts may resolve spontaneously or may require a drainage procedure, but total excision is the ideal treatment for pancreatic cystadenoma because it is a true neoplasm which probably posseses a malignant potential. The authors have reviewed 9 patients(4 patients of mucinous cystadenoma and 5 patient.s of mucinous cystadenocarcinoma) from January 1981 to December 1990. There were 8 women and 1 man with the mean age of 49.3 years(range, 27 to 68 years). Abdominal pain was the most common symptom(6 patients) with the palpable mass in 3 patients. Ijltrasonography showed cystic mass in 7 patients(77.8% ). Of those 6 patients who underwent C;T, ll detected the lesion without difficulty. Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography(F,RCP) were performed in 5 patients with the findings of duct displacements in 3 patients and abrupt cut- off of pancreatic duct in 1 patients and there was no comrnunication between main duct and cyst. Tail was the most common location of the tumor(5 patients) with mean size of 8.9cm (range, 2.0 to 22.0cm). Curative resection were possible in 6 patient(66.7%). Survival time was obtainable in 6 patients. After excluding 2 patients whom died 4 rnonths and 6 months after surgery respectively, the median survival duration was 27 months(maximum 69 months).(Korean J Gastroenterol 1994; 26: 728 736)
Detection of New Source of High Eating Quality in Korean Japonica Rice Germplasm

Eating and cooking qualities are the most important trait in japonica rice breeding program in Korea. More improvements in grain quality to meet the demand of consumers are needed to develop new rice germplasm of high grain quality. In this study, we performed genetic analysis and grain quality evaluation in 96 Korean japonica rice germplasm including 26 varieties with 4 Japanese japonica high eating quality, 24 landraces, 22 weedy rices, and 14 breeding lines. These germplasm were analyzed using 13 DNA markers related to eating quality to conjecture the palatability of cooked rice (Lestari et al. 2009). Most varieties of high eating quality were clustered with germplasm of high expected quality (eq) varieties of similar genetic background of pedigree. The expected quality (eq) values of high eating quality varieties, Gopum, Ilpum, Samgwang, and Sugwang were 99.6∼104.5, and Koshihikari was 103.5. The eq of two weedy rices, Hoengseongaengmi 3 and Namjejuaengmi 6 were 101.9 and 101.6, respectively. However, Haiami of high eating quality was clustered with 15 weedy rice and 11 landrace germplasm of low eq value. The eq values of Haiami and Wandoaengmi 6 were 66.9 and 40.8, respectively, but they has 2 and 3 of palatability of cooked rice, and 73.6 and 78.6 of glossiness of cooked rice, respectively. We expect these germplasm would be new source for rice grain quality to develop japonica rice of high eating quality.
