        Broad-specificity amino acid racemase, a novel non-antibiotic selectable marker for transgenic plants

        The broad-specificity amino acid racemase (Bsar) from Pseudomonas putida catalyzes the racemization of various amino acids, offering a flexible and feasible platform to develop a new non-antibiotic selectable marker system for plant transformation. In the present study, we demonstrated that a Bsar variant, Bsar-R174K, that is useful as a selectable marker gene in Arabidopsis and rice that were susceptible to l-lysine and D-alanine. The introduction of wild-type Bsar, Bsar-R174K or Bsar-R174A into E. coli lysine or asparagine auxotrophs was able to rescue the growth of these microorganisms in minimal media supplemented with selectable amino acid enantiomers. The transformation of Arabidopsis with Bsar or Bsar variants based on d-alanine selection revealed that Bsar-R174K had the greatest efficiency (2.40%), superior to kanamycin selectionbased transformation (1.10%). Whereas, l-lysine-based selection exhibited lower efficiency for Bsar-R174K (0.17%). The progenies of selected Bsar-R174K transgenic Arabidopsis revealed normal growth properties. In addition, Bsar-R174K transgenic rice was obtained on l-lysine medium with an efficiency of 0.9%, and the progenies of the transgenic rice revealed morphologically normal phenotypes comparable with their wild-type counterparts. This study presents the first report of broad range amino acid racemase Bsar-R174K as a non-antibiotic selectable marker system applied in transgenic plants.

        The Development and Current State of Inclusive Education at Universities in Taiwan

        The purpose of this study is to investigate the development of current state of inclusive education at universities in Tiwan. In Tiwan, inclusive education is for all students who are disabled/non-disabled. We believe that inclusive education ensure the educational right of all students regardless of the type and degree of individual difference. However, challenges remain in the inclination of teaching staff to modify their teaching materials, as this is currently not in line with the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) obligations. Furthermore, higher education is not part of compulsory education, a fact which can be a point of debate and represent a challenge to implementing inclusive education in this setting. In conclusion, students with developmental disabilities who cannot comprehend the theoretical or academic subjects being studied in higher education may be better served by appropriate transfers or bridge courses aimed to deliver career-oriented knowledge and training.

        본 논문은 세계화 맥락 속에서 중국의 문예현황을 논술하고 있다. 세계화는 단순히 세계의 일체화를 가리키는 것이 아니라, 세계의 일체화, 세계체계론과 사회전환론 등 세 종류의 의의를 함축하고 있어 세계화에 대한 단편적인 오해를 바로 잡을 필요가 있다. 세계화는 실제적으로 현대인의 전세계적 공생과 상호적인 체험을 가리키는 것으로 16세기 이래 세계 각 민족간의 상호의존과 삼투가 나날이 긴밀해지는 생활방식이며, 특정지역의 생존체험과 멀리 떨어진 지역의 생존체험이 이러 저러한 연관을 맺는 것을 의미한다. 이러한 세계화의 맥락 속에서 예술을 고찰하기 위해서는 생산과 소비영역에서의 예술의 종족, 매개, 과학기술, 금융과 이데올로기 등 다층적인 상황을 고려해야 하며, 예술의 주류문화, 고급문화, 대중문화와 민간문화 등 다양한 형태간의 다원적인 상호삼투상황, 그리고 새로운 다원화된 변화생성의 양태를 살펴보아야 한다.

        半夏瀉心湯이 CCl4 로 유도된 간중독 흰쥐에 미치는 영향

        The purpose of this study is to observe the effect of Banhasasimtang on serum reaction in CCI₄ treated rats. In this study the experimental rats divided five group(Normal, Control, Sample A, Sample B and Sample C group) Under the same condition Normal group was fed basal diet and water, Control group was injected carbon tetrachloride(CCI₄ 0.5㎖/㎏) and basal diet for 2 weeks, Sample A group was injected carbon tetrachloride(CCI₄0.5㎖/㎏) and fed the Bahasasimtang extract(10㎖/㎏) for 2 weeks, Sample A group was injected carbon tetrachloride(CCI₄ 0.5㎖/㎏) and fed the Banhasasimtang extract(10㎖/㎏) for 2 weeks, Sample B group was fed the Banhasasimtang extract(10㎖/㎏) for 2 weeks and injected carbon tetrachloride(CCI₄ 0.5㎖/㎏), Sample C group was fed the Banhasasimtang extract(10㎖/㎏) for 2 weeks. The change of GOT, GPT, γ-GPT, ALP, LDH activity and Bilirubin level in blood serum. The obtained results are summarized as follows : 1. In the change of GOT GPT contents, as compared with control group, sample group was significantly decreased. 2. In the change of γ-GPT contents, as compared wth control group, sample group was significantly decreased. 3. In the change of ALP contents, as compared with control group, sample group was significantly decreased. 4. In the change of LDP contents, as compared with control group, sample group was significantly decreased. 5. In the change of Bilirubin contents, as compared with control group, sample group was significantly decreased.

        New damage localization indicator based on curvature for single-span beams

        Most existing damage detection methods based on curvature should investigate the indicator value changes between the intact and damaged state. However, the 'footprint' in the intact state is usually not available for most actual beams. Therefore, a new damage localization indicator called Difference of Nearby Difference Curvature Indicator (DNDCI) was introduced for single-span beams. This indicator does not require prior information of the intact beam and is sensitive to the damage occurs on or nearby the measuring points. Practical and detailed application method of DNDCI has been proposed. Besides the idealized simply supported beams, it was validated by example that DNDCI is also applicable to the actual single-span beams supported by bearings.

        Ordinal Optimization Theory Based Planning for Clustered Wind Farms Considering the Capacity Credit

        Wind power planning aims to locate and size wind farms optimally. Traditionally, wind power planners tend to choose the wind farms with the richest wind resources to maximize the energy benefit. However, the capacity benefit of wind power should also be considered in large-scale clustered wind farm planning because the correlation among the wind farms exerts an obvious influence on the capacity benefit brought about by the combined wind power. This paper proposes a planning model considering both the energy and the capacity benefit of the wind farms. The capacity benefit is evaluated by the wind power capacity credit. The Ordinal Optimization (OO) Theory, capable of handling problems with non-analytical forms, is applied to address the model. To verify the feasibility and advantages of the model, the proposed model is compared with a widely used genetic algorithm (GA) via a modified IEEE RTS-79 system and the real world case of Ningxia, China. The results show that the diversity of the wind farm enhances the capacity credit of wind power.

        About the Source of Liji·Yueji’s “Li” Ideology and Its Meanings and Characters

        《禮記·樂記》中的“理”范疇頗具討論意義。一方面在理范疇的發展史上, 它首先提出了“倫理”一詞。另一方面, 它繼庄子之后, 較早地使用了“天理”的槪念, 幷增之爲“天理人欲”。在先秦所有理字的涵義中, 《樂記》繼承了其中“万事万物內在屬性和運行規律”、“天命人性之理”、“倫理”幾個義項。從學派來看, 它雜糅了儒家、道家、墨家等多家思想, 而又以儒家思想爲主。形成了以理爲“體”, 以禮樂爲“相”, 以移風易俗之功能爲“用”的“體―相―用”三層融通契合結構。《樂記》之理亦與其它哲學范疇産生密切聯系, 再現了先秦理范疇的思想脈絡。 Liji•Yueji’s “Li” ideology has high significance. On the one hand, yueji first used the word “ethics”, On the other hand, after ZhuangZi, it used the concept of “the principle of nature” second place, furthermore, It added the concept of “the principle of nature” to “the principle of nature and human desires”. In all of Li ideology’s meanings in “Pre-Qin” dynasty, Yueji absorbed three branches meanings that are “everything internal properties and rules”, “the consciousness of destiny and life”, and “ethics”. From academic school perspective, Yueji thought integrate Confucianism, Taoism, and Monism etc, though mainly Confucianism. Yueji’s thought build up three-level structure that is using Li ideology as body, using etiquette and music as images, and using “transforming social traditions and customs” as function. Yueji’s Li ideology also established close relationships with other ideology of Pre-Qin pre-chin Taoism and idealistic. This help to reappear thinking thread of Pre-Qin dynasty. [Article in Chinese]

        Tazarotene-Induced Gene 1 Interacts with DNAJC8 and Regulates Glycolysis in Cervical Cancer Cells

        The tazarotene-induced gene 1 (TIG1) protein is a retinoidinducible growth regulator and is considered a tumor suppressor. Here, we show that DnaJ heat shock protein family member C8 (DNAJC8) is a TIG1 target that regulates glycolysis. Ectopic DNAJC8 expression induced the translocation of pyruvate kinase M2 (PKM2) into the nucleus, subsequently inducing glucose transporter 1 (GLUT1) expression to promote glucose uptake. Silencing either DNAJC8 or PKM2 alleviated the upregulation of GLUT1 expression and glucose uptake induced by ectopic DNAJC8 expression. TIG1 interacted with DNAJC8 in the cytosol, and this interaction completely blocked DNAJC8-mediated PKM2 translocation and inhibited glucose uptake. Furthermore, increased glycose uptake was observed in cells in which TIG1 was silenced. In conclusion, TIG1 acts as a pivotal repressor of DNAJC8 to enhance glucose uptake by partially regulating PKM2 translocation.

        A Novel Method to Fabricate High Strength Nanofiber Filaments: Morphology, Crystalline Structure, and Thermal and Mechanical Properties

        Wet electrospinning is a simple and efficient method to manufacture continuous nanofiber filaments. However, polyacrylonitrile nanofiber filaments collected using a static water bath are limited for application in certain areas due to their low degree of alignment and breaking stress values. To improve these properties, a novel countercurrent flowing liquid bath collector was combined with a multi-needle electrospinning device. The morphologies, crystalline structures, thermal behaviors and mechanical properties of filaments fabricated under different countercurrent bath liquid motion conditions were investigated. In addition, the forces acting on the nanofibers in the bundling triangular zone under countercurrent liquid bath motion were analyzed. The results showed that the average nanofiber diameter of the filaments decreased with an increase in bath solution motion forces. The maximum alignment degree and breaking stress of the nanofibers were 85 % and 0.63 cN/dtex, respectively, achieved using a liquid flow rate of 80 ml/min and water inlet diameter of 6 mm. The alignment degree of the assembled nanofibers in the bundling triangular zone could be increased by 57 % when using a countercurrent flowing liquid compared with a static liquid bath.

        Mutations of TYR and MITF Genes are Associated with Plumage Colour Phenotypes in Geese

        The polymorphism of microphthalmia-associated transcription factor (MITF) and tyrosinase (TYR) genes have been proposed to play a vital role in coat colour genesis in mammals, but their role remains ambiguous in geese at best. Here, we cloned and sequenced 1,397 bp coding region of MITF gene and a 588 bp fragment of TYR exon 1 for polymorphism analysis among 157 domestic geese showing three types of plumage colour. We detected a total of three SNPs (c.280T>C, c.345G>A, and c.369G>A) in TYR and six haplotypes (H1-H6). Among them, haplotypes H1, H2, H3, and H5 were significantly associated with white plumage trait of Zhedong White Geese. However, only diplotype H1H1 and H3H5 were significantly associated with white plumage trait of Zhedong White Geese (p<0.01). We only detected one SNP (c.1109C>T) for MITF gene and found that genotype CT and TT were significantly associated with white plumage trait of Zhedong White Geese. Briefly, our study suggested an association between polymorphisms of TYR and MITF genes and the plumage colour trait in domestic geese.
