High-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) has been suggested to be associated with breast cancer. However, the roles of HDL-C and hypertriglyceridemia on breast cancer still have been controversial. The goal of this study was to investigate the association between HDL-C with breast cancer risk, stratifying by menopausal status, and body mass index. The hormonal receptor status of breast has been proposed to modify the effect of HDL-C on breast cancer. Multicenter hospital-based case-control study was conducted from November 2004 to December 2005 in Korea. After one to two individual matchings by age (+/-5 years) and menopausal status, 690 cases and 1,380 controls were included in the analysis. Odds ratios (OR) and 95% confidence intervals (95% CI) were estimated by conditional, unconditional, and multinomial logistic regressions. Protective effect of HDL-C on breast cancer was only observed among premenopausal women with an OR (95% CI) of 0.49 (0.33-0.72) for HDL-C > or = 60 versus <50 mg/dL (P(trend) < 0.01). Only nonobese premenopausal women had a significant decreased risk (OR, 0.34; 95% CI, 0.22-0.53). OR (95% CI) of low HDL-C (<50 mg/dL) and high triglyceride (TG; > or = 150 mg/dL) category was 2.20 (1.32-3.67) on estrogen receptor-negative and progesterone receptor-negative breast cancer compared with high HDL-C (> or = 50 mg/dL) and low TG (<150 mg/dL) category. This study suggests that higher level of HDL-C may reduce breast cancer risk among premenopausal women. Estrogen receptor-negative and progesterone receptor-negative breast cancer was associated with dyslipidemia, which implicates that association among HDL-C, TG, and breast cancer may be modified by receptor status.

Although the incidence of breast cancer in Asia remains lower than in North America, Western Europe, and Oceania, rates have been increasing rapidly during the past few decades, and Asian countries now account for 40% of breast cancer cases diagnosed worldwide. Breast cancer mortality has also increased among Asian women, in contrast to decreased mortality in Northern America, Western Europe, and Oceania. These increased rates are associated with higher prevalence of breast cancer risk factors (e.g., reduced parity, delayed childbirth, increased obesity) that have accompanied economic development throughout the region. However, Asian regions (western, south-central, south-eastern, and eastern) and countries differ in the types and magnitude of changes in breast cancer risk factors, and cannot be viewed as a single homogeneous group. The objective of this paper was to contrast the heterogeneous epidemiology of breast cancer by Asian regions and countries, and to suggest potential avenues for future research.
The Prosodic Effect of Compound Tensification in Korean
Yeonju Kim,Hijo Kang 한국중원언어학회 2017 언어학연구 Vol.0 No.45
This study investigates the prosodic characteristics of compounds in Korean, compared to those of simplex words and phrases. In the production experiment, 45 pseudo minimal pairs or triplets that were produced by 12 Korean speakers from Seoul and Gwangju were acoustically analyzed. Duration of target segment (closure duration of lax vs. tense), preceding vowel, preceding consonant, and following vowel are measured and compared. Pitch contour of preceding vowel was also examined. First, we show whether and how words are prosodically different from phrases. The results show that the durations of whole expression and of closure are longer in phrases than in words. The pitch pattern of phrase also differs from that of word, though it was not consistent through dialects and genders. Second, compounds are compared with simplex words. Duration shows similar differences in compounds vs. simplex words, but pitch does not show significant differences, which leads us to the conclusion that duration plays a crucial role in distinguishing morphologically and/or syntactically different structures such as simplex words, compounds, and phrases in Korean.

The aim of this paper is to verify how translator s values, horizon and translation project affects on translation works. Literature Translation Institute of Korea, public agency under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, has incorporated with Myongji-LG Korean Studies Library and published series of books translated which were written by foreign visitors to Korea during that period, Choosing 「Korean & Her Neighbours」 written by Bishop, Isabellas S. Bird among the books projected and two translated Korean version which were translated by two different translators who have different background, specific features of each translation have been figured out in terms of Berman s translation criticism and appraisal theory. For the same source text, it has been found that the style or pattern on translation works are different based on translators. Through this study, one of the most important facts on translation is to recognize who translates and what is purpose of the translation. So, for suitable for aim of translation, the first step is to decide who to translate and how specifically to meet the readers expectation.
