        Identification of failure mechanisms for CFRP-confined circular concrete-filled steel tubular columns through acoustic emission signals

        The CFRP-confined circular concrete-filled steel tubular column is composed of concrete, steel, and CFRP. Its failure mechanics are complex. The most important difficulties are lack of an available method to establish a relationship between a specific damage mechanism and its acoustic emission (AE) characteristic parameter. In this study, AE technique was used to monitor the evolution of damage in CFRP-confined circular concrete-filled steel tubular columns. A fuzzy c-means method was developed to determine the relationship between the AE signal and failure mechanisms. Cluster analysis results indicate that the main AE sources include five types: matrix cracking, debonding, fiber fracture, steel buckling, and concrete crushing. This technology can not only totally separate five types of damage sources, but also make it easier to judge the damage evolution process. Furthermore, typical damage waveforms were analyzed through wavelet analysis based on the cluster results, and the damage modes were determined according to the frequency distribution of AE signals.

        Molecular Cloning and Functional Characterization of FOUR LIPS in Pomegranate, a Protein Involved in Regulating the Gravitropic Set-Point Angle of Adventitious Roots

        Self-rooted pomegranate seedlings are widely used in the horticultural industry to cut costs and time. However, these seedlings produce shallow roots that exhibit poor cold resistance. Thus, deeper adventitious roots generated through gravitropism are imperative for seedling survival, and understanding the molecular mechanisms of gravitropism can facilitate improved breeding techniques. We hypothesized that gravitropism in pomegranate is partially controlled by pomegranate FOUR LIPS (PgFLP), an R2R3-MYB protein that interacts with and controls the transcriptional expression of PgPIN10, which facilitates transmembrane auxin signaling. We studied subcellular localization of PgFLP, quantified auxin levels, and measured gravitropic set-point angle (GSA) to investigate the underlying mechanisms regulating PgPIN10 expression during the formation of GSA in pomegranate adventitious roots. We found that PgFLP was localized to the nucleus based on use of green florescent proteins, suggesting that this protein is a transcription factor. When using the tractable 35S::PgFLP, we observed stronger gravitational response in overexpression lines leading to a narrower GSA than in the wild-type Arabidopsis, and the expression of PgFLP and PgPIN10 in ‘Lanbaoshi’ (LBS; a deep-rooted cultivar) was higher than that in ‘Taishanhong’ (TSH; a shallow-rooted cultivar), which indicates that PgFLP may participate in regulating the GSA of adventitious roots via PgPIN10 in pomegranate. Taken together, our results indicate that the pomegranate R2R3-MYB transcription factor, PgFLP, plays a vital role in setting the GSA of adventitious roots in this crop species.

        In recent years, with the rapid development of internet technology, enterprise business model has entered a new century. The emergence of network economy has forced retail enterprises to change the original marketing mode, global information resources can be shared instantly, which greatly improve the operational efficiency and reduce the cost. In this paper, we analyze the influence factors that impact on retail enterprises based on consumers online shopping behavior, survey data from small and medium enterprises. The result shows that macro environment factors, market competition, enterprise self factors will affect the enterprise's e-commerce performance, and significantly promote the enterprise's market strategy innovation. Therefore, it is an important way to improve the competitiveness of enterprises by carrying out the E-business market strategy.

        Shear Behavior of Marlstone Containing Parallel Fissure under Normal Unloading

        Shear tests under normal unloading were carried out to further study the shear mechanical behavior of marlstone containing parallel fissures. The results reveal that the failure on the rock bridge is tensile failure except for the limited extrusion failure at the tip of the prefabricated fissure. The failure on both sides is generally tensile-shear mixed failure, in which the tensile failure is mainly concentrated in the middle of both sides. In general, it can be summarized as a tensile-shear failure mode of STS-T-STS (S means shear failure, T means tension failure). The failure normal stress of the specimens gradually increases and then decreases with the increase of the fissure inclination, increases with an increase in the initial normal/shear stress, and decreases with the increase of the unloading rate. Strong dilation occurred in the shear process of the specimens, which shows obvious arch effect. The variation law of dilatancy deformation and horizontal deformation in the stage of normal stress unloading is just opposite to that of the failure normal stress. The increasing effect of high shear stress on shear deformation is greater than that of dilatancy deformation, while the inhibiting effect of high normal stress on dilatancy deformation is greater than that of the shear deformation.

        Identifi cation of key leaf color-associated genes in Gleditsia sinensis using bioinformatics

        This study aimed to explore leaf-color associated genes in Gleditsia sinensis ( G. sinensis ) using bioinformatics methods. Green, purple, and yellow leaves were collected from G. sinensis in Shandong Institute of Pomology. Total RNA was collectedfrom leaves and subjected to transcriptome sequencing. Diff erentially expressed genes (DEGs) were identifi ed amongthe diff erent colored leaves using RSEM method followed by functional enrichment analysis. Finally, qRT-PCR analysis wasused to assess the expression of several pigment-related genes enriched in signifi cant GO or KEGG terms. A total of 10,953,14,961, and 8916 DEGs were identifi ed between green vs. purple leaves, green vs. yellow leaves, and purple vs. yellow leaves,respectively. Among the green vs. purple leaves, DEGs were signifi cantly enriched in terms of iron ion binding, tetrapyrrolebinding, (e.g., CYP26A1 , CYP97A3 , and CYP86A1 ), and starch and sucrose metabolism (e.g., TPS and VTC2 ). DEGsfor green/purple vs. yellow groups were markedly enriched in circadian rhythm-plant KEGG pathway, including ELF3 andCHS . Compared with their expression in green leaves, CYP26A1 , CYP97A3 , CYP86A1 , TPS and VTC2 were signifi cantlydownregulated in purple leaves, while downregulation of ELF3 and upregulation of CHS was detected in yellow leaves. CYPs (e.g., CYP26A1 and CYP97A3 ) might play critical roles in the determination of leaf color in G. sinensis via iron ionand tetrapyrrole binding. In addition, genes related to starch and sucrose metabolism (e.g., TPS and VTC2 ), and circadianrhythms (e.g., ELF3 and CHS ) might also be involved in controlling leaf color.

        Famine exposure in early life and type 2 diabetes in adulthood: findings from prospective studies in China

        BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: This study examined the relationship between famine exposure in early life and the risk of type 2 diabetes in adulthood during the 1959–1961 Chinese Famine. SUBJECTS/METHODS: A total of 3,418 individuals aged 35–74 years free of diabetes from two studies in 2006 and 2009 were followed up prospectively in 2009 and 2012, respectively. Famine exposure was classified as unexposed (individuals born in 1962–1978), fetal exposed (individuals born in 1959–1961), child exposed (individuals born in 1949–1958), and adolescent/adult exposed (born in 1931–1948). A logistic regression model was used to assess the relationship between famine exposure and diabetes after adjustment for potential covariates. RESULTS: During a three-year follow-up, the age-adjusted incidence rates of type 2 diabetes were 5.7%, 14.5%, 12.7%, and 17.8% in unexposed, fetal-exposed, child-exposed, and adolescent/adult-exposed groups, respectively (P < 0.01). Relative to the unexposed group, the relative risks (95% confidence inter val) for diabetes were 2.15 (1.29–3.60), 1.53 (0.93– 2.51), and 1.65 (0.75–3.63) in the fetal-exposed, child-exposed, and adolescent/adult-exposed groups, after controlling for potential covariates. The interactions between famine exposure and obesity, education level, and family histor y of diabetes were not obser ved, except for the urbanization type. Individuals living in rural areas with fetal and childhood famine exposure were at a higher risk of type 2 diabetes, with relative risks of 8.79 (1.82–42.54) and 2.33 (1.17–4.65), respectively. CONCLUSIONS: These findings indicate that famine exposure in early life is an independent predictor of type 2 diabetes, particularly in women. Early identification and inter vention may help prevent diabetes in later life.

        Damage analysis of carbon nanofiber modified flax fiber composite by acoustic emission

        Fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) has received widespread attention in the field of civil engineering because of its superior durability and corrosion resistance. This article presents the damage mechanisms of a novelty composite called carbon nanofiber modified flax fiber polymer (CNF-modified FFRP). The ability of acoustic emission (AE) to detect damage evolution for different configurations of specimens under uniaxial tension was examined, and some useful AE characteristic parameters were obtained. Test results shows that the mechanical properties of modified composites are associated with the CNF content and the evenness of CNF dispersed in the epoxy matrix. Various damage mechanisms was established by means of scanning electron microscope images. The fuzzy c-means clustering were proposed to classify AE events into groups representing different generation mechanisms. The classifiers are constructed using the traditional AE features - six parameters from each burst. Amplitude and peak-frequency were selected as the best cluster-definition features from these AE parameters. After comprehensive comparison, a correlation between these AE events classes and the damage mechanisms observed was proposed.

        First-principle investigation on multiferroicity and interfacial coupling of nonstoichiometric tetragonal La2/3Sr1/3MnO3/BiCoO3 interface

        The energetically stable tetragonal nonstoichiometric La2/3Sr1/3MnO3/BiCoO3 (LSMO/BCO) interface, whose chemical formula is (BiO)3(CoO2)4/(LaO)3(SrO)1(MnO2)3, was investigated by using first-principle calculations. A magnetoelectric coupling effect, i.e., an electric control of the magnetism, was approved by a maximum variation of 17.9% in magnetic moments tuned by the electric polarization reversal. The interfacial coupling was controlled by the polar shifts of the interfacial Co and/or O atoms. A huge variation in spin-polarization from 6.3% to 72.7% was achieved upon switching the electric polarization. These findings are useful for magnetoelectric coupled spintronic device applications.

        Improved Performances of AlN/Polyimide Hybrid Film and its Application in Redistribution Layer

        The AlN/polyimide (PI) hybrid film was studied as thedielectric layer in the redistribution layer (RDL) in this work. The incorporation of the AlN into the PI matrix was achievedby mechanical ball-milling process. The spin-coating processwas used to fabricate the AlN/PI hybrid film, which iscompatible with micro-electro-mechanical system (MEMS)technology for fabricating RDL. The AlN/PI hybrid film wascharacterized by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectrumand thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The effect of the AlNcontent on the thermal stability, thermal expansion coefficient,hardness and water adsorption of the AlN/PI hybrid film wasstudied. The results indicated that the addition of AlN nanoparticlesimproved the thermal stability and hardness, butdecreased the thermal expansion coefficient and waterabsorption of the pure PI film. As an example of its typicalapplication, the AlN/PI hybrid film with 8 wt.% AlN waspatterned using micromachining technology and used as thedielectric layer in RDL successfully.
