SummarySix organic matter rates (0, 1000, 1,500, 2,000, 2,500 and 3,000Kg/10a) were examined for their effects on growth and tuberous root yield of Liriope platyphylla Wang et Tang.The results obtained were summarized as follows;Both plant height and no. of tuberous roots per plant were greatest at 2,000kg of organic matter per 10a. Leaf width and root length were not significantly affected by organic matter rate. Root weight was increased as organic matter was increased from 0 to 2,500kg/10a and then decreased at 3,000kg. Weight of tuberous root, dry wt. of tuberous root and fresh weight were increased with increasing organic matter from 0 to 2,000kg/10a and then decreased with more than 2,500kg. SPAD reading of leaves was not significantly affected by organic matter rate. Results indicate that recommendable application quantity of organic matter for Liriope platyphylla Wang et Tang was about 2,000kg/10a in Cheju.

Heterotopic ossification is frequent complication in patients with spinal cord or brain injury, although the etiology is unknown. The extensive heterotopic ossification is a cause of limitation of active or passive joint motion and ultimately bony ankylosis which interferes independency in activities of daily living and ability of maximum rehabilitation. Whereas, the articular complication of heterotopic ossification have been well documented, the vascular complication are less well known. We experienced one case with vascular compression and obstruction by heterotopic ossification in a patient with traumatic brain injury and reported the case with clinical and radiologcal and laboratoric findings.

SummaryFive phosphate (P2O5) rates (0, 10, 15, 20 and 25kg/10a) was investigated for their effects on growth and tuberous root yield of Liriope platyphylla Wang et Tang grown in a volcanic ash-soil. The results obtained were summarized as the follows;Plant height, leaf length and no. of tuberous roots per plant were increased with increasing phosphate from 0 to 25kg/10a. Leaf weight, root weight, wt. of tuberous roots, fresh weight and dry wt. of tuberous roots on a plant basis were greatest at 25kg phosphate per 10a, and were decreased with decreasing phosphate rate. The phosphate rate did not significantly affect length, width, and SPAD reading of leaves. Results indicate that the optimum phosphate rate for Liriope platyphylla Wang et Tang would be above 25kg(/10a) in volcanic ash soils of Cheju province.

The purpose of this study was to analyze for changes of muscle function and enzyme level of match athletics according to maximum muscle endurance exercise Subjects were 5 Judo player, 5 tae kwon do player and 5 wrestling player of P.E high school. They were measured and evaluated the strength and the muscular power of 60°/sec work speed and muscular endurance of 240°/sec work speed after 75time(extension/flexion exercise) between each set. The finding of this study were as follows: 1. Peak torque strength and balance ratio at the lower work speed 60o/sec was no significant difference among the group. 2. Mean power during extension exercise at work speed of 240°/sec showed significantly(p〈.05) high(67.6watts) at Judo group after two set. Flexion exercise showed significantly(p〈.05) high(77.0watts) at Judo group after one set. Total work during extension exercise showed significantly(p〈.01) high(2535.7Jo ules) at wrestling group after two set, flexion exercise showed significantly(p〈.05) high during one set(3229.8 Joules) and two set(1996.0 Joules) at Judo group. Muscular fatigue ratio showed significantly(p〈.01) low(34.1%) at one set during extension exercise in Tae kwon do group. During flexion exercise showed signif icantly (p〈.05) low(60.6%) after one set in wrestling group. 3. Variation of serum CPK, LDH level of wrestling group was no significant diff among the group. However, Variation of GOT level showed significantly(p〈.05) low in judo group. Within the scope of this study, for the advancement of ability to compete: First, the training of athletes to develope muscular strength, power, and endurance should be aimed at the peak torque improvement and balanced development of muscular strength for hamstring strength power in match players: second, anaerobic power improvement through the interval training should be preceded for the de-velopment of muscular endurance.

A successful treatment of infants and children with congenital heart defects depends upon several factors: diagnosis must be accurate, the operative technique, including techniques of perfusion and myocardial preservation, must be suited to the needs of patients and intensive cares, including accurate anesthesia, must be applied through all stages of investigation and treatment, i.e. before, during and after the operation. Recently we performed a open heart surgery successfully for a six-years old girl who had suffered from frequent upper respiratory tract infection and mild to moderate exertional dyspnea with congenital heart defects (ventricular septal defect, Kirklin type II, with patent foramen ovale). The operation and postoperative course were very smooth. And now we report this with review of literatures.

Lymphangiomas are divided into three categories; (1) simple (capillary) lymphangioma, (2) cavernous lymphangioma, and (3) cystic hygroma. This lesion usually occurs in the posterior triangle of the neck but can be present in the axilla, mediastinum, or groin. Recently, we have experienced two cases of cavernous lymphangioma that one occurred in the mediastinum and the other was in the right chest wall, which were surgically removed successfully and confirmed histopathologically.

The technique for the synthesis of the dual-input describing function(DIDF) is introduced here and the construction of a non-linear electronic compensator(N-L-E-C) based on this technique is proposed. The above non-linear network is used to compensate linear and non-linear systems for instability,speed of response, limit cycle and the static accuracy.

Ravitch 술식을 이용한 누두흉의 수술 교정

선천성 누두흉 5예를 Ravitch씨식 수술 방법으로 교정하여 좋은 결과를 얻었다. Funnel chest is the most common deformity of the sternum. It is characterized by funnel shaped depression of the sternum with sharp angulation and lengthening of the costal cartilages, with the result that the cartilages point posteriorly. We have experienced with 5 cases of funnel chest for 2 years recently, and they were corrected by the method of Ravitch operation with or without Kirschner wire. The postoperative course was uneventful. And now we report these with literature review.

쉼터에 거주중인 가출 청소년의 정신건강상태와 가족인자

Objectives : There were two objectives in this study 1) to investigate the psychosocial characteristics and mental health status of runaway adolescents, 2) to compare mental health status, family environments (family violence, parental conflict, Parental alcohol drinking) by gender. Methods : This was a cross-sectional study done on 151 residents of a runaway adolescent shelter. This study was conducted from 12th May to 24th May 2003. Self-rating questionnaire used include demographic data, SCL-90-R, family adaptability cohesion evalua-tion scale III, conflict tactics scales 2 and children of alcoholics screening test. Results : Most participants were single parent, with low education level. Adolescents in shelters scored significantly high on the somatization, hostility, interpersonal sensitivity, paranoid ideation, psychoticism scales on the SCL-90-R. Female ad01escent scored significantly higher on the obsessive-compulsive, interpersonal sensitivity, and hostility scales on the SCL-90-R. Male adolescents scored significantly higher statistically on the CAST. These results suggest that more systematized and individualized psychiatric intervention is necessary to help them during sheltered living. Conclusion : Runaway adolescent report significant level of psychopathology, family conflict, Parental alcohol problem. These results suggest that more systematized, individualized psychiathc approach is necessary to help runaway adolescent in shelter.

우리나라 소아에서의 β- Lactamase 산생 Escherichia의 장관내 존재

In order to evaluate the possibility that facal E. coli might serve as a reservoir of β-lactamases for Haemophilus influenzae, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, or other members of the Family Enterbacteriaceae, 135 fecal E. coli isolates from Korean children uder two years of age were tested for resistance to ampicillin (??) and for β-lactamases activity. ?? was found in 115(85%) strains of E. coli tested. Of the 115 ?? E. coli, 87(76%) were β-lactamases producers. High rates of ?? and β-lactamases activity were found uniformly in various pathogenic types of E. coli. Our observations raise questions concerning the importance of fecal E. coli in the prevalance of β-lactamase producing bacteria in the community. Fecal E. coli of Korean children may be important in the epidemiology of β-lactamases producing pathogens in humans.
