This paper reports the basic results obtained from an investigation of the microstructure of lithium niobate (LiNbO3) crystals fabricated by using the focused ion beam (FIB) sputtering method. The morphology characterization of the microstructure is explained in terms of scanning electron microscopy observations based on the geometrical integrity, surface smoothness, cross-sectional area, aspect ratio, etc. The optimized micro-fabrication conditions and the sample morphology characterization are presented, and the sputtering rate of Ga ions for a 30-keV energy milling of the LiNbO3 crystal is calculated, which is lower than the theoretical one gained from “The Stopping and Range of Ions in Matter” (SRIM) sputtering simulation due to the redeposition effect being enhanced with increasing milling depth

A barrier planar waveguide was fabricated in z-cut LiNbdO3 crystals by 4.5-MeV lithium ion implantation at a dose of 3 £ 1014 ions/cm2 at room temperature. Dark modes were observed by the prism-coupling method with wavelengths of both 633 nm and 1539 nm. The refractive index pro¯les were reconstructed by using the re°ectivity calculation method. There were about 1.1 % and 0.7 % decreases at the optical barriers of the ordinary and extraordinary refractive index at the wavelength at 633 nm, and the positions of the optical barriers were close to those of the damage peaks calculated by the TRIM098 (Transport of Ions in Matter) code. It is found that the refractive index change may be partly due to the damage induced by nuclear collision.

Determining cell quantity is a common problem in cytology research and anti-tumor drug development. A simple and low-cost method was developed to determine monolayer and adherent-growth cell quantities. The cell nucleus is located in the cytoplasm, and is independent. Thus, the nucleus cannot make contact even if the cell density is heavy. This phenomenon is the foundation of accurate cell-nucleus recognition. The cell nucleus is easily recognizable in images after fluorescent staining because it is independent. A one-to-one relationship exists between the nucleus and the cell; therefore, this method can be used to determine the quantity of proliferating cells. Results indicated that the activity of the histone deacetylase inhibitor Z1 was effective after this method was used. The nude-mouse xenograft model also revealed the potent anti-tumor activity of Z1. This research presents a new anti-tumor-drug evaluation method.

To evaluate the effects of chelated Zn/Cu/Mn on redox status, immune responses and hoof health in lactating Holstein cows, 48 head in early lactation were divided into healthy or lame groups according to their gait score. Cows were fed the same amount of Zn/Cu/Mn as sulfate salts or in chelated forms for 180 days, and foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) vaccine was injected at day 90. The results showed that lame cows had lower antioxidant function, serum Zn/Mn levels, hair Cu levels, and hoof hardness. Moreover, increased antioxidant status, FMD antibody titers, serum and hair levels of Zn/Cu/Mn, and hoof hardness and decreased milk fat percent and arthritis biomarkers were observed in cows fed chelated Zn/Cu/Mn. In summary, supplementation with chelated Zn/Cu/Mn improved antioxidant status and immune responses, reduced arthritis biomarkers, and increased accumulation of Zn/Cu/Mn in the body and hoof hardness in dairy cows.

Planar waveguides have been fabricated in z-cut lanthanum gallium silicate (LGS) crystal by 6.0 MeV oxygen-ionsimplantation with a dose of 6×10^15 ions/cm². The waveguides were characterized by the prism-coupling method. The dark modes are measured before and after annealing at 600, 700, 750 and 800℃ for different times in air. The refractive index profiles are reconstructed by using a reflectivity calculation method. TRIM'98 code is used to simulate the process of the oxygen-ion implantation into LGS. It is found that the refractive-index change may be partly due to the damage induced by nuclear collision, and the waveguide has thermal stability below 600℃. Wei, Wang Xue,Sheng, Fei Zheng,Chen, Liu Bei,Lin, Wang 대한전자공학회 1992 HICEC:Harbin International Conference on Electroni Vol.1 No.1
This paper proposes a double three slope multiplying A/D converter and introduces the new A/D converter application with sample/hold technique and microprocessor in the field of industrial power measurement. The new A/D converter has low price. The wattmeter based on the new A/D converter and microprocessor now is used, its precision is better than 0.1%.
Galectin-9 Acts as a Prognostic Factor with Antimetastatic Potential in Hepatocellular Carcinoma
Zhang, Zhao-Yang,Dong, Jia-Hong,Chen, Yong-Wei,Wang, Xian-Qiang,Li, Chong-Hui,Wang, Jian,Wang, Guo-Qiang,Li, Hai-Lin,Wang, Xue-Dong Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2012 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.13 No.6
Considerable research has been conducted concerning galectin-9 and carcinomas, but little information is available about any relation with the hepatocellular carcinoma. In this study, we employed a small interfering RNA (siRNA) targeting galectin-9 to down-regulate the expression in HepG2 cells. As a result, after galectin-9 expression was reduced, cell aggregation was suppressed, while other behaviour such as the proliferation, adhesion and invasion to ECM, cell-endothelial adhesion and transendothelial invasion of the cells were markedly enhanced. When tumors of 200 patients with hepatocellular carcinoma were tested for galectin-9 expression by immunohistochemistry, binding levels demonstrated intimate correlations with the histopathologic grade, lymph node metastasis, vascular invasion and intrahepatic metastasis (P<0.05). Moreover, survival analysis indicated that patients with galectin-9 expression had much longer survival time than those with negative lesions, and the Log-rank test indicated that this difference was statistical significant (P<0.0001). The Cox proportional hazards model suggested that negative galectin-9 expression in hepatocellular carcinoma represented a significant risk factor for patient survival. We propose that galectin-9 might be a new prognostic factor with antimetastatic potential in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma.

A novel inverse emulsion-ionic crosslinking approach was adopted to prepare pH-responsive chitosanmicrospheres and effect of preparation technique, such as chitosan concentration, emulsifierconcentration, water/oil ratio and homogenization speed, on the morphology and property of themicrospheres were investigated. The chitosan microspheres with spherical in shape, smooth surface, high productivity and promising pH responsiveness were obtained. On this basis, bovine serum albumin(BSA)-loaded chitosan microspheres was prepared to test the drug release behavior in buffers withdifferent pH values. BSA-chitosan microspheres with particle sizes in range from 5 to 10mmreleased BSAslowly in neutral medium and released rapidly in acidic medium, and exhibited obviously pH-responsiverelease behavior. Korsmeyer–Peppas model can be used for describing BSA release kinetics from chitosanmicrospheres, which corresponded with a Fickian release behavior, and the diffusion through theswelling of chitosan microspheres was the main factor in controlling BSA release.
