        Female Identity Crises and Resolutions in Henrik Ibsen’s A Doll’s House and The Lady from the Sea

        This paper examines female identity crises and their comparative resolutions as dramatized in Henrik Ibsen’s two stage plays, A Doll’s House (1879) and The Lady from the Sea (1888), focusing on the female protagonists’ self-realization and subsequent crisis resolution strategies. Ibsen’s stage realism anticipates a notion of contemporary feminist perspectives with its emphasis on consciousness-raising and change in women’s role in society. Nora’s identity crisis in A Doll’s House stems from her economic dependence on her domineering husband Torvald Helmer, together with her anxiety over secretive financial transactions undertaken to save his life. Helmer’s reactions when her secret is revealed prompts Nora to forsake him in order to explore her identity as human being. However, this dramatic self-awakening raises questions regarding her responsibility as a mother and a wife. Ellida’s identity crisis in The Lady from the Sea also emerges from inner conflicts, in this case between her attachment to a past love and her responsibility as Dr. Wangel’s wife and stepmother to his children. Unlike Nora, Ellida chooses to remain at her family home, even after her husband acknowledges her right and freedom to choose. Her choice of resolution affirms that freedom is subjective and that a true marriage is sustainable through mutual trust. This analysis of female identity crises and their consequences illustrates the journey of the female protagonists from marginalized objects under patriarchal dominance to self-conscious, independent subjects. Accordingly, it is noteworthy that Ibsen’s dramatic insights foreground the economic and/or sexual pressures that still exist for middle-class women in many societies today.

        The Sphinx Factor in Terence Rattigan’s The Deep Blue Sea and Harold Pinter’s Betrayal

        This paper explores the nature of human behavior and choice as represented in two British stage plays: Terrance Rattigan’s The Deep Blue Sea (1952) and Harold Pinter’s Betrayal (1978). Written for different socio-economic and historical contexts, both plays feature triangular relationships in which the female protagonists respond to their failed marriages by engaging in unsuccessful extramarital affairs, eventually developing resilience and thus recovering hope from failure. The constant tension between the intertwined human and animal factors in these marital and extramarital relationships exemplifies what the Chinese scholar Nie Zhenzhao calls the “Sphinx factor.” This comparative study discusses the significance of the Sphinx factor in these two works, proposing that Rattigan and Pinter use their dramatic observations of society to show how the animal instinct leads to extramarital affairs, and how human intellect, in turn, retrieves rationality and an added sense of awakening. Particular attention is paid to how each heroine acquires self-recognition in the process of grappling with these opposing psychological and evolutionary inheritances. The intricate depictions of marital infidelity, the politics of betrayal and self-deception, the irrationality of love, and the need for female self-knowledge in these works provide an ongoing social commentary on the human condition. The Deep Blue Sea and Betrayal offer an important lesson for the ethically compromised worlds in which they were written that remains relevant to this day.

      • Blending Glowworm Swarm Optimization Algorithm with Thermal-Mechanical Coupling Finite Element Model for Optimization Method of Box Structure Welding Technology

        Welding sequence is the important influence factor of the temperature field and residual stress and deformation in welding structure, At present, determining the welding sequence is usually based on experience and test method. For complex structure it is very difficult to get the optimum welding sequence. This study is aiming to settle the problem of solving the optimum welding sequence of complex box welding structure. In our study, we take the welding deformation as objective function, and then, associate glowworm swarm optimization algorithm with thermal-mechanical coupling and nonlinear thermal elastoplastic finite element model to optimize numerical simulation, eventually the optimum welding sequence is determined. Optimization results demonstrate that the optimum welding sequence obtained by our method has small welding deformation and little change rate. At the same time, our method is faster, more accurate, more effective than the traditional experience or test method.

        Proteomic Analysis of Sericin in Bombyx mori Cocoons

        Cocoon sericin plays an important role in the reeling of silk and serves as a valuable biomaterial in the field of biomedicine, skincare, and food industries; however,knowledge about cocoon sericin proteins has been limited. For a comprehensive study on sericin, cocoons of eight varieties of silkworm of different geographic origin and with varied cocoon color were analyzed utilizing proteomics and bioinformatics approaches. The electrophoresis pattern demonstrated some common protein bands for all silkworm varieties and distinctive protein bands for some of those examined in the present study. The Ser2protein, a new Ser3 protein, and four other novel sericin proteins were identified in cocoons for the first time. Products of both Ser1 and Ser3 genes appear to be ubiquitous in the cocoon shell of Bombyx mori. In addition,cocoons with especially high-reelability produced by the mutant strain B84 had an unique protein product of the Ser2 gene, indicating that the protein may play an important role in cocoon reelability. A series of sequence conflicts and post-translational modifications (PTMs) were also revealed in sericin proteins. Lipid modifications of sericin proteins, which promote waterproofing of the cocoon shell, were observed. Further, hydroxylation was identified,which provided evidence for intermolecular bonds among neighboring molecules of sericin as found in collagens. The sericin proteome data obtained from this study illuminated the molecular complexity of cocoon sericin and contributed to our understanding of the properties of sericin in filature and biomaterials.

        A Study on the Development of a Caddie Education Program for Golf Club in China

        The purpose of this study is to present a caddie education program that can improve the performance of golf caddies in China by comparing and analyzing the golf caddie education programs in South Korea and China. Caddie education programs were collected from 4 golf clubs, 3 professional caddie education institutions and 8 public institutions in South Korea and 6 golf clubs and 2 professional caddie education institutions in China. The following results were obtained. Although the caddie training in China is conducted over more time and term than in South Korea, it is necessary to have an education program considering golf expertise and quality of customer service. Therefore, the caddie education program in China is composed of golf related education(golf etiquette, golf practice skill), caddie duty training(safety management, customer service and image making), and training for caddie(fitness management, injury prevention, skin care, and cost-saving etc.). In the future, the Chinese golf club industry will has a potential to develop. In order to provide a consistent and systematic education, manual training on caddie education and training on caddie master to manage caddies should be conducted.

        입력강화를 활용한 한국어 띄어쓰기 교수의 효과 : 중급 중국인 학습자를 대상으로

        띄어쓰기는 문어체로 된 자료와 보고서 과제를 자주 접하는 학문목적인 한국어 학습자에게 매우 중요하지만 아직은 외국인 학습자에게 한국어 띄어쓰기를 가르치는 실제적 교수방안을 제시한 연구가 거의 없다. 많은 선행연구는 입력강화나 처리교수를 활용한 교수법이 한국어 문법 교수, 특히 피동, 과거형 등을 비롯한 의사소통적 의미가 적고 간과되기 쉬운 문법 형태소를 가르치는 데에 효과적이라고 보고하였다. 띄어쓰기도 의미보다는 형태적 측면에 속하고 학습자가 매우 간과하기 쉬운 부분이기에 입력강화에 입각한 인지처리 교수법이 띄어쓰기를 가르치는 데에 매우 효과적일 수 있다. 따라서 본 연구는 한국어 띄어쓰기 교수에 대한 입력강화를 활용한 교수법의 효과와 효과 지속성을 검증하고자 한다. 본 연구의 대상은 중급 수준의 중국인 학습자 20명이며, 실험집단과 통제집단에 10명씩 배정하였다. 연구결과는 입력강화를 활용한 한국어 띄어쓰기 교수가 이해영역과 산출영역에 모두 긍정적인 효과를 제공하였고, 그 효과는 비교적 장기적이고 안정적인 것으로 나타났다. Word spacing is important to the students for academic purpose who should do much writing and reading. But there is no research on teaching methods of word spacing in practical Korean education. Since previous studies showed positive effects of input enhancement and processing instruction on grammar teaching, especially for the grammar elements having less communicate meaning, it's inferred that input enhancement will also provides a positive effect on the acquisition of word spacing. So the purpose of this study was to verify it. The subjects of this study were 20 Chinese students studying in intermediate course and they were divided into two group: one is for test and the other is for control. The results indicated that input enhancement had significantly positive effect on both comprehension area and production area of the acquisition of word spacing as inferred and the effect was relatively stable.

        Progress in Adsorption-Enhanced Hydrogenation of CO2 on Layered Double Hydroxide (LDH) Derived Catalysts

        It is acknowledged as a promising strategy to reduce excessive CO2 emissions by catalytic conversion tovalue-added chemicals, in which layered double hydroxide (LDH) derived catalysts play essential roles. Inthe present review, latest progresses were summarized to gain insights on this issue. LDH-derivedcatalysts can be prepared via various methods and possess favorable characteristics of reversibletopotactic transformation for further development. Compared to conventional catalysts, they showspecific advantages in specific surface area, metal element dispersion and active site distribution. Despiteof distinguished LDH-derived catalysts applied in CO2 reduction reactions to methane, methanol,hydrocarbons, etc., state-of-art LDH-derived catalysts consisted of catalyst-adsorbent synergistic systemare recently constructed to employ the surface CO2 adsorption boundary layer to increase the CO2 partialpressure near active sites for hydrogenation. The overall catalytic performance is thus promoteddramatically. Accordingly, the strategy of adsorption-enhanced hydrogenation is expected to facilitatethe industrialization of CO2 hydrogenation and is instructive for catalyst design in future.
