• An Efficient Program for Noise Performance Analysis and Low-Noise Design in Electronic Circuits

Luo, Tao,Dai, Yi Song,Guo, Xue Lei 대한전자공학회 1992 HICEC:Harbin International Conference on Electroni Vol.1 No.1

A new general efficient program for noise performance analysis and low-noise design in electronic circuits is presented. The circuits may include arbitrary topology and any kind of noise sources. Because the all noise sources can be effected simultaneously and the noise correlation is fully considered, using this program can lead to remarkable improvement on the accuracy and efficiency of noise analysis and design.

      • Innovating Bus Line Design in Mobile through Interaction Design Language

Luo Tao 한국HCI학회 2017 한국HCI학회 학술대회 Vol.2017 No.2

Public transportation applications in mobile are used by more and more people these days. It is very convenient to acquire route and real-time information about bus and subway when people commute. However, due to the limited size of mobile screen, most current bus line designs in mobile applications face the complexity problem of displaying large amount of information in a limited screen. In this paper, we present an innovative solution derived from interaction design language to solve this problem. Interaction design language is a notation system intended to capture the unique quality of interaction design. Early user test demonstrates the improvement of usability of the new solution, which in turn implies the usefulness of applying interaction design language in innovating interactions in products.

      • DS-CDMA and MC-CDMA with Per-User MMSE Frequency Domain Equalization

Tao LUO,Gang WU,Shaoqian LI,Yong Liang GUAN,Choi Look LAW 보안공학연구지원센터 2008 International Journal of Hybrid Information Techno Vol.1 No.3

The future wireless mobile communication systems will be required to support high-speed transmission rate. Direct sequence code-division multiple access (DS-CDMA) and multicarrier (MC-) CDMA are two important CDMA schemes for high rate wireless communication. A novel linear per user minimum mean square error (PU-MMSE) detection technique for DS-CDMA with frequency domain equalization (FDE) based on the MMSE criterion applied per user is presented. It is shown by computer simulation that PU-MMSE outperforms conventional per carrier (PC-) MMSE for DS-CDMA with FDE in frequency selective block fading channel. Especially, in case of uplink PU-MMSE gains better performance than conventional MMSE not only for non-full-load DS-CDMA with FDE but also for full-load DS-CDMA with FDE. The performance of DS-CDMA with PU-MMSE FDE can be further promoted by successive interference cancellation (SIC). Comparing to MCCDMA with PU-MMSE FDE, DS-CDMA with PU-MMSE FDE has no performance loss and has much lower peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR).

Autophagy induced by H. pylori VacA regulated the survival mechanism of the SGC7901 human gastric cancer cell line

        Luo Juan,Bai Luyan,Tao Jun,Wen Yu,Li Mingke,Zhu Yunzhen,Luo Sufeng,Pu Guangyu,Ma Lanqing 한국유전학회 2021 Genes & Genomics Vol.43 No.10

Background Vacuolating cytotoxin (VacA) is an important virulence factor of Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori). It was previously believed that VacA can trigger the cascade of apoptosis on mitochondria to lead to cell apoptosis. Recently, it was found that VacA can induce autophagy. However, the molecular mechanism by which VacA induces autophagy is largely unknown. Objective We aimed to explore the molecular mechanism of autophagy induced by H. pylori in gastric cancer cells and the efect of autophagy on the survival of gastric cancer cells. Methods The autophagy of human gastric cancer cell line SGC7901 was detected by Western blot and RT-PCR in the treatment of VacA protein of H. pylori. The relationship between autophagy and reactive oxygen species (ROS) in the proliferation of gastric cancer cells were studied by gene expression silences (siRNA) and CM-H2DCFDA (DCF) staining. Results The results showed that VacA protein secreted by H. pylori in the supernatant stimulated autophagy in SGC7901 cells. After VacA protein treatment, the mRNA expressions of BECN1, ATG7 and PIK3C3, were up-regulated. ATG7 silencing by siRNA inhibited VacA-induced autophagy. Furthermore, our data demonstrated that VacA protein increased ROS levels. Addition of the antioxidant N-acetyl-l-cysteine (NAC) suppressed the levels of ROS, leading to inhibition of autophagy. Conclusions H. pylori VacA is a key toxin that induces autophagy by increased ROS levels. And our fndings demonstrated that VacA signifcantly inhibited proliferation in SGC7901 cells.

The infection frequencies and dynamics of three secondary endosymbionts in the laboratory environments on Sitobion avenae (Fabricius) as determined by long PCR

        Chen Luo,Kun Luo,Zu-Qing Hu,Yue-Yue Tao,Hui-Yan Zhao 한국응용곤충학회 2016 Journal of Asia-Pacific Entomology Vol.19 No.2

Stable infections of maternally transmitted secondary endosymbionts in aphids are frequently found in field populations; however, whether this phenomenon changes in artificial lab conditions has not been clear. To investigate, (1): we collected Sitobion avenae (Fabricius) fromsix different regions and detected the three common secondary endosymbionts (Regiella insecticola, Hamiltonella defensa and Serratia symbiotica); (2): we raised Sitobion avenae fromChuzhou, Anhui for 14 months in the laboratory, and analyzed these aphids' DNA using the long PCR protocol after the 1stmonth, 3rdmonth, 5th month, 7thmonth, 9thmonth, 11thmonth, 12thmonth, 13thmonth and 14th month. The results showed that S. symbiotica and R. insecticola could be detected in all aphid populations, while H. defense were detected in three locations. After reared in the lab, the infection frequencies of Serratia symbiotica did not change across the 14 study months, but the infection frequencies of Regiella insecticola after the 9th month and of Hamiltonella defensa after the 11th month decreased significantly. Additionally, the results show that facultative endosymbiont infections may decline in artificial lab conditions, suggesting that temporal changes of endosymbionts may occur within the host under different environmental pressures. This result may partially explain why different geographic populations harbor a diverse variety of endosymbionts. The results of this study can be helpful in understanding the stability of secondary endosymbionts in Sitobion avenae under long-termreproduction in controlled laboratory conditions.

      • Compression and Aggregation-Resistant Particles of Crumpled Soft Sheets

        Luo, Jiayan,Jang, Hee Dong,Sun, Tao,Xiao, Li,He, Zhen,Katsoulidis, Alexandros P.,Kanatzidis, Mercouri G.,Gibson, J. Murray,Huang, Jiaxing American Chemical Society 2011 ACS NANO Vol.5 No.11

Unlike flat sheets, crumpled paper balls have both high free volume and high compressive strength, and can tightly pack without significantly reducing the area of accessible surface. Such properties would be highly desirable for sheet-like materials such as graphene, since they tend to aggregate in solution and restack in the solid state, making their properties highly dependent on the material processing history. Here we report the synthesis of crumpled graphene balls by capillary compression in rapidly evaporating aerosol droplets. The crumpled particles are stabilized by locally folded, π–π stacked ridges as a result of plastic deformation, and do not unfold or collapse during common processing steps. In addition, they are remarkably aggregation-resistant in either solution or solid state, and remain largely intact and redispersible after chemical treatments, wet processing, annealing, and even pelletizing at high pressure. For example, upon compression at 55 MPa, the regular flat graphene sheets turn into nondispersible chunks with drastically reduced surface area by 84%, while the crumpled graphene particles can still maintain 45% of their original surface area and remain readily dispersible in common solvents. Therefore, crumpled particles could help to standardize graphene-based materials by delivering more stable properties such as high surface area and solution processability regardless of material processing history. This should greatly benefit applications using bulk quantities of graphene, such as in energy storage or conversion devices. As a proof of concept, we demonstrate that microbial fuel electrodes modified by the crumpled particles indeed outperform those modified with their flat counterparts.

Graphic Abstract

ACS Electronic Supporting Info

Aldehyde Dehydrogenase 2 (ALDH2) Polymorphism and the Risk of Alcoholic Liver Cirrhosis among East Asians: A Meta-Analysis

        Tao Deng,Lei He,Hesheng Luo 연세대학교의과대학 2016 Yonsei medical journal Vol.57 No.4

Purpose: The aldehyde dehydrogenase 2 (ALDH2) gene has been implicated in the development of alcoholic liver cirrhosis (ALC) in East Asians. However, the results are inconsistent. In this study, a meta-analysis was performed to assess the associations betweenthe ALDH2 polymorphism and the risk of ALC. Materials and Methods: Relevant studies were retrieved by searching PubMed, Web of Science, CNKI, Wanfang and Veipu databasesup to January 10, 2015. Pooled odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence interval (CI) were calculated using either the fixed- or random effects model. Results: A total of twelve case-control studies included 1003 cases and 2011 controls were included. Overall, the ALDH2 polymorphismwas associated with a decreased risk of ALC (*1/*2 vs. *1/*1: OR=0.78, 95% CI: 0.61–0.99). However, in stratification analysis by country, we failed to detect any association among Chinese, Korean or Japanese populations. Conclusion: The pooled evidence suggests that ALDH2 polymorphism may be an important protective factor for ALC in East Asians.
