Electroconvulsive Therapy on Severe Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder Comorbid Depressive Symptoms

        Xiaohui Liu,Xinhui Xie,Hong Cui,Qiang Wei,Ying Wang,Keyong Wang,Chen Wang,Chunyan Zhu 대한신경정신의학회 2014 PSYCHIATRY INVESTIGATION Vol.11 No.2

Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) is not currently used as a first-line treatment for obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). However, several related case reports have demonstrated that ECT seems to be effective for severe OCD, especially when first-line therapies have failed. In this study, we describe the courses, detailed parameters, effects, and follow-up information relating to three patients with severe OCD who were treated by modified bifrontal ECT after their first-line anti-OCD treatments pharmacotherapy, behavioral therapy, and cognitive behavioral therapy failed. The number of ECT procedures administered in each case is as follows: Case 1, eight; Case 2, three; and Case 3, four. In all three cases, the patients’ depressive symptoms improved considerably after the ECT procedures. In addition, the condition of all three patients’ OCD significantly improved and remained stable at regular follow-ups. ECT may play an effective role in treating severe OCD.

      • Validation of the Seedling Vigor Index (SVI) Model using Rapeseeds Germination Test

( Xiaohui Liu ),( Xin Zhao ),( Jae Young Kim ) 한국폐기물자원순환학회(구 한국폐기물학회) 2016 한국폐기물자원순환학회 추계학술발표논문집 Vol.2016 No.-

Contaminated soils and water by heavy metals have posed a serious threat to environment and human health, which can be solved by both physicochemical and biological methods. Phytoremediation has recently become a topic of scientific research and gained much attention as a cost-effective and eco-friendly alternative. Many kinds of hyperaccumulator plants have been applied to deal with heavy metal contaminants such as As, Cd, Pb, Zn and various radionuclides. In recent study, a seedling vigor index (SVI) model, which uses specific hyperaccumulator plants (i.e., sunflower) as test subjects, is proposed to predict the phytotoxicity of heavy metals. However, whether this mathematical model can be commonly used has not been cleared yet. In this study, rapeseeds were treated with Cd, Pb, Ni, Zn to validate the SVI model which was proposed by some scholars previously. The phytotoxicity of heavy metal was evaluated using seed germination test and seedling length measurement. The test shows that germination percentage and seedling length decreased when heavy metal concentration increased. According to the results of regression analysis, heavy metal concentration is linear to germination percentage, root and shoot length, corresponding with SVI model. It can be concluded that the SVI estimation model obtained from sunflowers can also be applied to rapeseeds to describe the relative effects of heavy metal concentration on plants growth and development.. However, further experiments using more hyperaccumulator plants to validate the applicability of the SVI model are necessary.

Hair follicles transcriptome profiles in Bashang long-tailed chickens with different plumage colors

        Xiaohui Liu,Rongyan Zhou,Yongdong Peng,Chuansheng Zhang,Lanhui Li,Chunxiang Lu,Xianglong Li 한국유전학회 2019 Genes & Genomics Vol.41 No.11

Despite the rich variety in plumage color found in nature, genetic studies on how hair follicles affect pigmentation are often limited to animals that have black and white pigment. To test how gene expression influences plumage color, transcriptomes of chicken hair follicles with white, black, hemp, reed catkins, silvery grey, and landscape plumage colors were generated using Illumina sequencing. We generated six RNA-Seq libraries with over 25 million paired-end clean reads per library with percentage of paired-end clean reads ranging from 96.73 to 96.98%. 78% of the reads mapped to the chicken genome, and approximately 70% of the reads were mapped to exons and 6% mapped to introns. Transcriptomes of hair follicles producing hemp and land plumage were similar, but these two showed moderate differences compared with gray and reed colored plumage. The black and white follicle transcriptomes were most divergent from the other colors. We identified several candidate genes, including GPNMB, PMEL, TYRP1, GPR143, OCA2, SOX10, SLC45A2, KRT75, and TYR . All of these genes are known to induce pigment formation in mice. White feathers result from the lack of pigment formation, and our results suggest that the white chickens due to the recessive insertion mutation of TYR . The formation of black area size and color depth may be due to the expression levels of GPNMB, PMEL, TYRP1, GPR143, OCA2, SOX10, SLC45A2, KRT75, and TYR . The GO analysis of the differentially expressed genes (DEGs) revealed that DEGs in our transcriptome analysis were enriched in cytoskeleton and cell structure related pathways. The black plumage transcriptome showed significant differences in melanogenesis, tyrosine metabolism, and riboflavin metabolism compared with transcriptomes of other plumage colors. The transcriptome profiles of the different chicken plumage colors provide a valuable resource to understand how gene expression influences plumage color, and will be an important resource for identifying candidate genes in breeding programs.

Two Simplified Methods for Galloping of Iced Transmission Lines

        Xiaohui Liu,Guangyun Min,Mengqi Cai,Bo Yan,Chuan Wu 대한토목학회 2021 KSCE JOURNAL OF CIVIL ENGINEERING Vol.25 No.1

For the galloping of iced transmission lines, the influences of two simplified methods of dynamic tension on the galloping characteristics of transmission lines are investigated. Based on the variational principle for Hamiltonian, the partial differential equation of galloping of iced transmission lines is derived, then it is transformed into ordinary differential equation by Galerkin method. Two different simplified methods are used to convert the partial differential equation into ordinary differential equation. One is to average the dynamic tension over the span length, then Galerkin method is used. The other is that Galerkin method is used to convert the partial differential equation into ordinary differential equation directly. Firstly, the influences of two simplified methods on coefficients of ordinary differential galloping equation are studied. Second, the influences of the bending stiffness on the first-order frequency have been researched. In addition, the average method of two degrees of freedom (DOFs) is proposed and the galloping characteristics of iced transmission lines are studied by using multiscale method and average method, then the results are compared with that obtained by using numerical method. The parameters analysis shows that the two simplified methods of dynamic tension have significant influences on the coefficients of the two DOFs ordinary differential equation. By comparing the coefficients of galloping equation obtained by the two simplified methods of dynamic tension, it can find that with the increasing of tension and span length, the influences of bending stiffness on in-plane and out-of-plane natural frequency becomes smaller and smaller. The results of multiscale method and average method both show that the two simplified methods of dynamic tension have certain influences on the frequency, phase and amplitude of galloping of iced transmission lines. The conclusions obtained by this paper would promote the perfection of theoretical modeling about iced transmission lines, and could also give some references to practical engineering.

Mechanism of rock breaking by pick assisted with water jet of different modes

Xiaohui Liu,Songyong Liu,Huifu Ji 대한기계학회 2015 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.29 No.12

In the rock breaking progress, the resistant force results in tools failure and the low cutting efficiency, thus, it is necessary to reduce thefailure of tools and enhance the efficiency of cutting and drilling. In this paper, different configuration modes of water jet were presentedto solve this issue. Moreover, the symmetrical pre-split finite element models for rock breaking by pick without water jet and picks assistedwith different configuration modes of water jet were established to analyze the effect of different configuration modes on rockstress distribution and pick cutting forces. Finally, the experiments were conducted to validate the theory analysis. The results indicatethat the cutting force decreasing rate of JCP is maximum all the time under the same conditions compared with the decreasing rate of JSPand JFP; and the numerical results were consistent with the numerical, which verifies the correctness of theory analysis.

Synergistic Bioactivities of Tea Polyphenols with Other Agents

        Xiaohui Liu,Yaomin Wang,Bo Li,Youying Tu 한국차학회 2015 한국차학회지 Vol.- No.S

Co-treatment with phytochemicals or drugs is a promising approach to enhance the chemoprevention and chemotherapy in some diseases. Combination of compounds may overcome multidrug resistantance, decrease the effective dose of individual drug, reduce side effects and achieve clinical success. Tea (Camellia sinensis (L.) O. Kuntze, Theaceae) is second only to water in popularity as a beverage in the world, and its health benefits are mostly attributed to tea polyphe nols. This review has summarized the synergistic effects of tea polyphenols with other phytochemicals or drugs on antioxidation, anti microorganism, anticancer, improvement of neurodegenerative diseases and other functions including protection from nephrotoxicity, inhibition of sporozoite survival, promotion of hematopoietic stem cell proliferation, improvement of bone mass and weight maintenance. The synergism of tea polyphenols with other compounds indicates that combination of tea polyphenols with other agents is a promising approach for treatment of some diseases. In addition, the synergistic bioactivities of tea polyphenols with other phytochemicals or nutrients may overcome the poor bioavailability of tea polyphenols in vivo, and provide a new explanation for the health benefits of tea.

      • Thermal Hydrolysis as a Pretreatment to Mesophilic and Thermophilic Anaerobic Digestions of Waste Activated Sludge

        ( Xiaohui Liu ),( Changmin Lee ),( Jae Young Kim ) 한국폐기물자원순환학회(구 한국폐기물학회) 2018 한국폐기물자원순환학회 심포지움 Vol.2018 No.1

Anaerobic digestion (AD), which converts complex macromolecules into low molecular weight compounds such as methane, carbon dioxide, water and ammonia by microbial consortia under mesophilic or thermophilic conditions, is a promising technology for municipal organic wastes management. Due to the microbial cells/flocs found in waste activated sludge (WAS), the hydrolysis is widely considered as the rate-limiting step in AD process. Thermal hydrolysis pretreatment (THP), aiming at generating more highly solubilized and biodegradable products, has been one of the most studied pretreatment methods and successfully applied at the industrial scale. However, the detailed understanding of property change of WAS by THP is lacking, and few papers have revealed the differences in mesophilic and thermophilic AD performance fed with THP treated WAS. In this study, the author compared the compositions and organic matter degradation of raw/THP treated WAS, as well as their anaerobic biodegradability under mesophilic/thermophilic conditions. The THP was processed by HALLA Energy & Environment Co., Ltd. The characteristics analysis, water quality measurement, and biochemical methane potential (BMP) test were performed. The results statistically indicated that THP led to components (e.g., crude protein, carbohydrate, cellulose, etc) change as well as C/N variation. The total ammonia (NH3-N) and total phosphorus (PO4-P) contents were increased after THP. VS (volatile solids, on TS basis) was decreased from 25.6% to 4.5%, and the volatile suspended solids (VSS) hydrolysis ratio was increased by 21.6%. Moreover, the chemical oxygen demands (COD) solubilization degree was enhanced from 17.5% to 47.8%. The BMP test results showed that, methane percentage in biogas was increased after THP process, from 51.0% in MAD to 71.8% in THP+MAD condition. Besides, THP+MAD system obtained the highest methane production (i.e., 206.2 mL-CH4/g-VS), followed by THP+TAD condition (i.e., 166.5 mL-CH4/g-VS). The specific methane yield results revealed that, the value for first peak in THP+MAD condition, i.e., 27.8 mL-CH4/g-VS d-1, was more pronounced; and its appearance, i.e., 2.8 day, was also earlier relatively. This study indicated that THP enhanced hydrolysis as well as solubility of WAS, and the combination of THP with mesophilic AD system is favorable to improve biogas generation efficiency for WAS.

Effect on tower crane structural vibration under the lifting-luffing coupling condition

        Fu Liu,Jianwei Yang,Jinhai Wang,Changdong Liu,Xiaohui Wang 대한기계학회 2023 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.37 No.10

The present research aims to investigate parametrically the structural vibration analysis of tower crane under the lifting-luffing coupling condition. Structural vibration greatly affects tower crane stability. The structural dynamics of a crane should be considered for studying motion behavior and vibration feature. The dynamic model of the tower crane is presented based on air resistance, boom deflection, and Lagrange equation under the lifting-luffing coupling condition. The vibration model of the tower crane was validated by an experiment. The experiment was conducted with an accelerating speed until reaching the constant speed and then with decelerating speed. This study analyses structural parameters to acquire the dynamic characteristics and vibration features of the tower crane under the compound working condition. The vibration responses of the mast and the boom are studied with frequency- and timedomain indicators. Results show that payload mass, luffing acceleration, boom length, mast height, and girder length significantly influence the mast vibration. In comparison, payload mass, trolley acceleration, and boom length affect the boom vibration. This research can improve the design of a dynamic system for tower crane safety.
