Active optical system for variable view imaging of micro objects with emphasis on kinematic analysis
Tao, Xiaodong,Cho, Hyungsuck,Janabi-Sharifi, Farrokh The Optical Society 2008 Applied optics Vol.47 No.22

Insufficient vision information, such as occlusion, low resolvability, and a small field of view, represent important issues in microassembly and micromanipulation. We propose an active optical system to solve problems related to insufficient vision information through the integration of robotics and optics technologies. The proposed system integrates a double-prism system and a scanning mirror system to supply a compact flexible view. The kinematics of the imaging system is analyzed based on a simplified model initially to investigate the workspace and identify the kinematic performance. A more rigorous analysis of kinematics of the system is then made based on the ray tracing method. The simulation results based on the preliminary design are provided for investigating the workspace and demonstrating the capability of the system in imaging with variable views.

Increase Visibility for Observation of Micro Objects in Microassembly by an Active Imaging System
Xiaodong Tao,Hyungsuck Cho 제어로봇시스템학회 2009 제어로봇시스템학회 국제학술대회 논문집 Vol.2009 No.8
Vision technique used in automatic microassembly limits its application, due to several inherent problemssuch as occlusions and small field of view. However the microassembly often needs to detect micro parts with complex shape inside the wide field of view. To avoid this criticism, we proposed a view steering method using an active imaging system that enables adjustment of the view to keep targets inside field of view and to avoid occlusion automatically for microassmebly. The system integrates a telecentric scanner and a double wedge prisms system which can supply a flexible view with adjustable zenith and azimuth angles. A best view is generated with a high resolution without occlusion by artificial potential field method. The microassembly experiments show the advantages of the proposed method over the conventional vision system.

Taking the randomness of mechanical parameters and thermal regime into account, a stochastic analysis model is established for investigating the uncertain stresses characteristics of embankment in permafrost regions. The stochastic finite element formulae are obtained by Neumann Stochastic Finite Element Method (NSFEM), and a stochastic coupling program is compiled by Matrix Laboratory (MATLAB) software. Using our program, the stochastic stresses fields of an embankment in a permafrost region are obtained and analyzed. The results provide a new way to predict the stresses characteristics of the embankment in permafrost regions, and it shows that the stochastic temperature has a different influence on the mean stresses and standard deviation, and the larger value is at a different location. The standard deviations in stresses increase with time when considering the stochastic effect of temperature and parameters, which imply that the results of conventional deterministic analysis may be far from the true value. It can improve our understanding of the stochastic stresses fields of embankments and provide a theoretical basis for engineering reliability analysis and design in permafrost regions.

Objective: To assess the outcomes and toxic effects of 5-day actinomycin D (Act-D) salvagetherapy and to explore the predictors of Act-D resistance in patients with low-risk gestationaltrophoblastic neoplasia (GTN)who failed 5-day methotrexate (MTX) chemotherapy. Methods: This retrospective study analyzed patients with low-risk GTN administered Act-Dsalvage therapy after failing MTX chemotherapy at Women's Hospital, School of MedicineZhejiang University between January 2000 and December 2015. The clinical parameters ofthese patients were collected and analyzed. Results: The final analysis included 89 cases. Of these, 73 cases (82.02%) responded tosalvage Act-D. The remaining 16 resistant cases were switched to etoposide, MTX, Act-D/cyclophosphamide, and vincristine chemotherapy and achieved complete remission. Serumhuman chorionic gonadotrophin levels before Act-D salvage therapy (hCGAct-D)in the Act-D resistant cases were significantly higher than those in the Act-D responders (median 605 vs. 103 IU/L, p=0.009). However, the range of hCGAct-D values in Act-D responders was wider thanthat in Act-D-resistant cases (5.76–16,664 IU/L vs. 11.43–6,732 IU/L). Thus, assigning a generalcut-off value was difficult considering the individual setting. Except for 2 cases requiring othersalvage regimens due to Act-D toxicity, 97.80% of cases (89/91) tolerated the toxicity. During atleast 1-year follow-up, the survival rate was 100.00% and no case developed recurrence. Conclusion: Based on the good therapeutic effect and tolerable toxicity, we recommendAct-D salvage therapy for all patients with low-risk GTN who fail primary MTX chemotherapy. The higher serum hCG levels before Act-D salvage therapy may be associated with resistanceto this treatment.

Objective: Apoptosis of ovarian granulosa cells (GCs) affects mammalian follicular development and fecundity. This study aimed to explore the regulatory relationship between microRNA-26a (miR-26a) and the 3β-hydroxysteroid-Δ24-reductase gene (DHCR24) gene in porcine follicular granular cells (pGCs), and to provide empirical data for the development of methods to improve the reproductive capacity of pigs. Methods: The pGCs were transfected with miR-26a mimic, miR-26a inhibitor and DHCR24-siRNA in vitro. The cell apoptosis rate of pGCs was detected by the flow cytometry. The secretion levels of estradiol (E2) and progesterone (P) in pGCs were detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Double luciferase validation system was used to detect the binding sites between miR-26a and DHCR24 3'-UTR region. Qualitative real-time polymerase chain reaction and Western blotting were used to verify the DHCR24 mRNA and protein expression in pGCs, respectively, after transfecting with miR-26a mimic and miR-26a inhibitor. Results: Results showed that enhancement of miR-26a promoted apoptosis, and inhibited E2 and P secretion in pGCs. Meanwhile, inhibition of DHCR24 also upregulated the Caspase-3 expression, reduced the BCL-2 expression, promoted pGCs apoptosis, and inhibited E2 and P secretion in pGCs. There were the binding sites of miR-26a located within DHCR24 3'-UTR. Up-regulation of miR-26a inhibited DHCR24 mRNA and protein expression in pGCs. Conclusion: This study demonstrates that miR-26a can promote cell apoptosis and inhibit E2 and P secretion by inhibiting the expression of DHCR24 in pGCs.

Optical super-resolution imaging has gained momentum in investigations of heterogeneous and homogeneous chemical reactions at the single-molecule level. Thanks to its exceptional spatial resolution and ability to monitor dynamic systems, much detailed information on single-molecule reaction/adsorption processes and single-particle catalytic processes has been revealed, including chemical kinetics and reaction dynamics; active-site distributions on single-particle surfaces; and size-, shape-, and facet-dependent catalytic activities of individual nanocatalysts. In this review, we provide an overview of recent advances in super-resolution chemical imaging of surface reactions.
