Effects of cryogenic medium on the weakly compressible flow characteristics of a high-speed centrifugal pump at a low flow rate

Xiaoping Chen,Wenjin Zhang,Shaolong Wang,Zu-chao Zhu 대한기계학회 2023 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.37 No.12

On the basis of the weakly compressible assumption, large-eddy simulation of a high-speed centrifugal pump is performed at a rotational speed of 9685 r/min and flow rate of approximately quarter load (0.23 Qd). Three cryogenic media, namely, liquid methane (MM), liquid nitrogen (MN), and liquid oxygen (MO), are used. Results show that many of the internal flow characteristics derived and validated for normal-temperature water still hold for cryogenic media. Pump efficiency, maximum density deviation, and total entropy generation rate increase with the increase in the reference density. The dominant frequencies of the pressure spectrum are 12 and 6 times the rotation frequency and insensitive to the cryogenic media. The average amplitude of the first-order dominant frequency between MN and MO deviates from that of MM by approximately 10 %. The maximum deviations of the average amplitudes of second-order dominant and axial frequencies are 34.9 % and 32.3 %, respectively. The variation in standard deviation exceeds 40 % for all cryogenic media.

The Predictive Value of Pre-therapeutic Serum Gamma-glutamyl transferase in Efficacy and Adverse Reactions to Neoadjuvant Chemotherapy among Breast Cancer Patients

        Lu Sun,Wenjin Yin,Ziping Wu,Yaohui Wang,Jinsong Lu 한국유방암학회 2020 Journal of breast cancer Vol.23 No.5

Purpose: Gamma-glutamyl transferase (GGT) has been reported as being involved in tumor progression. Previous studies documented a potential relationship between serum GGT level and survival outcome in several types of human malignancies. However, the association between serum GGT levels and response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) has not yet been reported. The present study aimed to evaluate the association between pre-therapeutic serum GGT level and the efficacy, long-term survival, and adverse reactions of NAC and to investigate its role in predicting NAC sensitivity in patients with breast cancer. Methods: A total of 129 patients were recruited and stratified into 2 groups according to serum GGT level (< 29 U/L and ≥ 29 U/L). The association between pre-therapeutic serum GGT levels and clinicopathological parameters was examined. The correlation between pre-therapeutic serum GGT levels and pathological complete response (pCR) was analyzed using univariate and multivariate logistic regression. Survival analyses of relapse-free survival (RFS) and disease-free survival (DFS) were performed. Pearson's χ2 test and multivariate logistic regression model were used to analyze the correlation between pre-therapeutic serum GGT levels and adverse reactions. Results: Pre-therapeutic serum GGT levels were associated with pCR among breast cancer patients treated with NAC. Multivariate analysis showed that low-level GGT significantly increased pCR rate. Patients in the high-level GGT group had poorer survival than those in the low-level GGT group. Subgroup analysis demonstrated that serum GGT level was potentially related to RFS and DFS in the hormone receptor-positive group. Low levels of GGT are significantly associated with a higher incidence of neutropenia. Conclusion: Pre-therapeutic serum GGT level is an independent and novel biomarker for predicting the efficiency, prognosis, and adverse reactions to NAC in breast cancer patients. Patients with low pre-therapeutic serum GGT levels are more likely to have higher pCR rates, better RFS and DFS, and higher hematologic toxicity.

      • Cyclic Prefixed OQAM-OFDM and its Application to Single-Carrier FDMA

        Xiqi Gao,Wenjin Wang,Xiang-Gen Xia,Au, Edward K S,Xiaohu You IEEE 2011 IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON COMMUNICATIONS Vol.59 No.5

Single-carrier frequency division multiple access (SC-FDMA) has appeared to be a promising technique for high data rate uplink communications. Aimed at SC-FDMA applications, a cyclic prefixed version of the offset quadrature amplitude modulation based OFDM (OQAM-OFDM) is first proposed in this paper. We show that cyclic prefixed OQAM-OFDM (CP-OQAM-OFDM) can be realized within the framework of the standard OFDM system, and perfect recovery condition in the ideal channel is derived. We then apply CP-OQAM-OFDM to SC-FDMA transmission in frequency selective fading channels. Signal model and joint widely linear minimum mean square error (WLMMSE) equalization using a prior information with low complexity are developed. Compared with the existing DFTS-OFDM based SC-FDMA, the proposed SC-FDMA can significantly reduce envelope fluctuation (EF) of the transmitted signal while maintaining the bandwidth efficiency. The inherent structure of CP-OQAM-OFDM enables low-complexity joint equalization in the frequency domain to combat both the multiple access interference and the intersymbol interference. The joint WLMMSE equalization using a prior information guarantees optimal MMSE performance and supports Turbo receiver for improved bit error rate (BER) perform BER) performance. Simulation results confirm the effectiveness of the proposed SC-FDMA in terms of EF (including peak-to-average power ratio, instantaneous-to-average power ratio and cubic metric) and BER performances.

Experimental and Numerical Investigation on the Behaviour of Prestressed High Strength Concrete Pile-to-pile Cap ConnectionsExperimental and Numerical Investigation on the Behaviour of Prestressed High Strength Concrete Pile-to-pile Cap Connections

Zhijian Yang,Wenjin Wang 대한토목학회 2016 KSCE JOURNAL OF CIVIL ENGINEERING Vol.20 No.5

Six Prestressed High Strength Concrete (PHC) pile-to-pile cap connections were tested to evaluate their damage process and failure modes under low cyclic loading. The hysteretic behaviour, rotation angle, ductility and bearing capacity were observed and analyzed. In addition, the effect of connecting forms and cutting-off piles on seismic performance of pile-cap connections was considered and investigated. The experimental results showed that flexural bending failure occurred in all connections. There were two main failure modes. One was tensile rupturing of prestressed bars and headings, resulting in loss of bearing capacity of the connections. The other type was more severe damage due to anchor bar yield and appearance of plastic hinge. Moreover, bond-slip failure of anchor bars was not observed in the cap, and the length of anchor bars met requirements. The analysis indicated that the bearing capacity and energy dissipation capacity increased along with the rotation capacity of the pile connections. Nonlinear finite element models were established to analyze the mechanical properties of these connections using OpenSees. The load-displacement curves obtained from the numerical analysis agreed with the experimental results. The effects of various parameters on the behaviour of the connections were conducted based on the numerical model.

WTAP-mediated m6A modification of FRZB triggers the inflammatory response via the Wnt signaling pathway in osteoarthritis

        An Xueying,Wang Rongliang,Lv Zhongyang,Wu Wenshu,Sun Ziying,Wu Rui,Yan Wenjin,Jiang Qing,Xu Xingquan 생화학분자생물학회 2024 Experimental and molecular medicine Vol.56 No.-

Osteoarthritis (OA) is the most common form of arthritis. However, the exact pathogenesis remains unclear. Emerging evidence shows that N6-methyladenosine (m6A) modification may have an important role in OA pathogenesis. This study aimed to investigate the role of m6A writers and the underlying mechanisms in osteoarthritic cartilage. Among m6A methyltransferases, Wilms tumor 1-associated protein (WTAP) expression most significantly differed in clinical osteoarthritic cartilage. WTAP regulated extracellular matrix (ECM) degradation, inflammation and antioxidation in human chondrocytes. Mechanistically, the m6A modification and relative downstream targets in osteoarthritic cartilage were assessed by methylated RNA immunoprecipitation sequencing (MeRIP-seq) and RNA sequencing, which indicated that the expression of frizzled-related protein (FRZB), a secreted Wnt antagonist, was abnormally decreased and accompanied by high m6A modification in osteoarthritic cartilage. In vitro dysregulated WTAP had positive effects on β-catenin expression by targeting FRZB, which finally contributed to the cartilage injury phenotype in chondrocytes. Intra-articular injection of adeno-associated virus-WTAP alleviated OA progression in a mouse model, while this protective effect could be reversed by the application of a Wnt/β-catenin activator. In summary, this study revealed that WTAP-dependent RNA m6A modification contributed to Wnt/β-catenin pathway activation and OA progression through post-transcriptional regulation of FRZB mRNA, thus providing a potentially effective therapeutic strategy for OA treatment.

Study on the Flexural Performance of Prestressed High Strength Concrete Pile

        Zhijian Yang,Guochang Li,Wenjin Wang,Yajun Lv 대한토목학회 2018 KSCE JOURNAL OF CIVIL ENGINEERING Vol.22 No.10

Four prestressed high strength concrete (PHC) piles under low-cycle loading and two piles under monotonic flexural loading were tested to study the test phenomena, failure modes, hysteretic performance, ductility and bearing capacity. It was indicated that PHC piles failed suddenly and the bearing capacity decreased because of the tensile rupturing of prestressing tendons from the results, and the hysteretic curves pinched. Nonlinear finite element models were established to analyze the mechanical properties of PHC piles using ABAQUS and OpenSees. The results obtained from the numerical analysis compared well with the experimental results. In addition, nonlinear finite element models were used to study influence of the position, pattern, number and diameter of deformed bars to the PHC piles reinforced with deformed bars (PRC piles). The analysis results showed that the deformed bars should be arranged evenly in circle direction, and the bearing capacity of PRC increased with the number and diameter of deformed bars.

Stiffness effects on repeatability of positioning of linear axes

        Guangming Sun,Yimiao Wang,Wenjin Wang,Jinjun Liu,Ming Yu,Jian Zhao 대한기계학회 2022 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.36 No.9

This paper studies the effect of stiffness (including slider stiffness and bearing stiffness) on the repeatability of the positioning of linear axes. First, a mathematical model between stiffness and the repeatability of the positioning of linear axes is established. The effects of the stiffness of the slider and bearing on the repeatability of positioning are analysed. The theoretical results show that the repeatability of the positioning decreases as the slider component stiffness and bearing stiffness increases. Second, a finite element analysis is implemented to calculate the effect of slider stiffness on the repeatability of positioning, the simulation results are found to be consistent with the theoretical results. Finally, the effect of bearing stiffness on the repeatability of positioning is experimentally investigated. The experimental and theoretical analysis results have been observed to coincide. Thus, the accuracy of the theoretical analysis is verified by both simulation and experimental results. The derived results afford designers and engineers a scientific basis for the stiffness design theory.

        Aihui Liang,Gui Huang,Zhiping Wang,Wenjin Wu,Yu Zhong,Shan Zhao 대한금속·재료학회 2016 ELECTRONIC MATERIALS LETTERS Vol.12 No.5

A novel bis(dibenzo-24-crown-8)-functionalized iridium complex with anemission peak at 665 nm was synthesized. Several deep red-emittingsupramolecualr phosphorescent polymers (SPPs) as a class of solutionprocessableelectroluminescent (EL) emitters were formed by utilizing theefficient non-bonding self-assembly between the resulting iridium complexand bis(dibenzylammonium)-tethered monomers. These SPPs show anintrinsic glass transition with a Tg of ca. 90 °C. The photophysical andelectroluminescent properties are strongly dependent on the hosts’ structuresof the supramolecular phosphorescent polymers. The polymer light-emittingdiode based on SPP3 displayed a maximal external quantum efficiency(EQE) of 2.14% ph·el−1 and the Commission Internationale de L’Eclairage(CIE) coordinates of (0.70, 0.29).

Sensory assessment of meshed skin grafts over free gracilis muscle flaps without nerve coaptation for lower extremity reconstruction

Tremp, Mathias,Waldkircher, Natascha J.,Wang, Wenjin,Oranges, Carlo M.,di Summa, Pietro G.,Zhang, Yixin,Wang, Wei,Schaefer, Dirk J.,Kalbermatten, Daniel F. Korean Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surge 2021 Archives of Plastic Surgery Vol.48 No.2

Background Little is known about the sensate recovery of skin grafts over free non-neurotized muscle flaps. The aim of this study was to evaluate the sensitivity of free gracilis muscle flaps and meshed skin grafts without nerve coaptation. Methods Thirteen consecutive patients with a median age of 55 years (range, 21-70 years) who underwent lower extremity reconstruction between September 2014 and October 2016 were included. Complications, flap contour, skin perception, and sensate recovery were assessed. Results All flaps survived completely. In one patient, wound dehiscence and infection occurred 1 month after surgery. After a median follow-up of 14 months (range, 10-51 months), a satisfactory contour and skin perception were achieved. The Semmes-Weinstein (SW) monofilament test (154.8±22 g) and static two-point discrimination (2-PD) (12.6±0.7 mm) showed intermediate recovery compared to the surrounding site (41% and 76%, respectively). There was an intermediate correlation between flap size and sensate recovery (2-PD: r=0.27, P=0.36; SW test: r=0.45, P=0.12). Vibration sensation recovered to 60%, whereas thermal sensation remained poor (19% at 5℃ and 25% at 25℃). Conclusions Finer sensation could be partially restored. However, thermal sensation remained poor.
