      • Whole Brain Radiotherapy Plus Chemotherapy in the Treatment of Brain Metastases from Lung Cancer: A Meta-analysis of 19 Randomized Controlled Trails

        Objective: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of whole brain radiotherapy (WBRT) plus chemotherapy versus WBRT alone for treating brain metastases (BM) from lung cancer by performing a meta-analysis based on randomized controlled trials (RCTs). Methods: The PubMed, Embase, CENTRAL, ASCO, ESMO, CBM, CNKI, and VIP databases were searched for relevant RCTs performed between January 2000 and March 2012. After quality assessment and data extraction, the meta-analysis was performed using the RevMan 5.1 software, with funnel plot evaluation of publication bias. Results: 19 RCTs involving 1,343 patients were included. The meta-analyses demonstrated that compared to WBRT alone, WBRT plus chemotherapy was more effective with regard to the objective response rate (OR = 2.30, 95% CI = 1.79 - 2.98; P < 0.001); however, the incidences of gastrointestinal reactions (RR = 3.82, 95% CI = 2.33 - 6.28, P <0.001), bone marrow suppression (RR = 5.49, 95% CI = 3.65 - 8.25, P < 0.001), thrombocytopenia (RR = 5.83, 95% CI = 0.39 - 86.59; P = 0.20), leukopenia (RR = 3.13, 95% CI = 1.77 - 5.51; P < 0.001), and neutropenia (RR = 2.75, 95% CI = 1.61 - 4.68; P < 0.001) in patients treated with WBRT plus chemotherapy were higher than with WBRT alone. There was no obvious publication bias detected. Conclusion: WBRT plus chemotherapy can obviously improve total efficacy rate, butalso increases the incidence of adverse reactions compared to WBRT alone. From the limitations of this study, more large-scale, high-quality RCTs are suggested for further verification.

        Bond-slip Constitutive Relation between BFRP Bar and Basalt Fiber Recycled-aggregate Concrete

        In order to investigate the bond stress-slip constitutive relation between BFRP bar and basalt fiber recycled-aggregate concrete, 81 central pullout specimens were tested. Basalt fiber volume percent, fiber length and concrete strength grade were considered to be experimental variables to obtain the bond stress-slip curves. The results showed that adding basalt fiber into recycled-aggregate concrete will reduce the bond stress between BFRP bar and recycled-aggregate concrete but enhance the ductility of bond property; the bond stress increases with the increasing of fiber length and concrete strength grade. The bond stress-slip constitutive model was proposed and the results showed that the model is good in effect of fitting. The constitutive model can reflect the bonding mechanism between BFRP bar and basalt fiber concrete well, it also can provide reference for theoretical analysis and engineering applications of the bond and anchor property between BFRP bars strengthened recycled concrete.

        ApCYP4C6 participates in the metabolism of glucosinolates in pea aphids Acyrthosiphon pisum

        Cytochrome P450 enzymes play a key role in the metabolism of plant allelochemicals of herbivorous insects. Here, we investigated the role of cytochrome P450 enzyme genes in the metabolism of glucosinolates in the pea aphids. The results showed that compared with the control untreated group, the transcription levels of two cytochrome P450 enzyme genes, ApCYP4C6 and ApCYP4C7, were significantly increased at 24 h and 48 h after glucosinolates treatment. Furthermore, after the aphids were treated with dsCYP4C6 (double stranded CYP4C6) for 48 h, the expression level of ApCYP4C6 in the aphids was significantly decreased, and its mortality was significantly increased by glucosinolates comparing with that of the dsGFP group. The present study demon strated that ApCYP4C6 was involved in the metabolism of glucosinolates by the pea aphids and contributed to further understanding the role of P450 genes in the tolerance of the pea aphids to plant secondary metabolites.

        Research on the Expression Language of New Fine Brushwork Paintings - A Case Study of Xu Lei's Paintings -

        21세기 이후 중국의 신 회화 양식은 대중들에게 새로운 모습을 보여주고 있다. 신 회화 양식은 중국 전통 회화에 새로운 언어를 부여했다. 서양 미술의 영향을 받아 중국 전통 회화에 대한 사람들의 미적 방식도 변화했다. 중국과 서양의 문화 교류와 충돌, 통합 과정에서 중국 전통화가 전통을 계승하고 시대와 발을 맞추는 가운데 현 시대적 특징을 지닌 '신회화' 양식을 형성하고 있다. 한 무리의 화가들이 전통의 굴레를 벗어나기 위해 끊임없이 노력하고, '신회화'의 길을 모색하며, 독특한 표현을 탐구한다. 이들의 새로운 시도는 전통적인 회화의 경계를 넓히고, 당대에 활력이 넘치는 전통적인 발전을 이루며, 미래 발전 가능성을 제시한다. 1990년대 중반, 쉬레이는 끊임없이 자신을 혁신하기 시작했다. 그는 전통적인 고운 꽃과 새의 회화을 바탕으로 서양 미술의 개념과 미술 형식을 중국 회화의 창작에 접목 시켰다. 전통적인 고운 회화는 정교하게 그려졌다. 그러나 쉬 화백의 그림은 전통적인 미세한 경계를 허물고 현대 "신 회화"의 탐구와 혁신을 이끄는 역할을 한다. 이 글은 쉬레이의 그림 작품을 연구 대상으로 삼고 있다. 회화 창작 기법에 대한 연구를 바탕으로 그림의 색채 기법과 표현 형태에 대한 분석이 이루어지고 있다. 그동안 전통적인 회화양식과 비교 분석해 '신 회화'의 표현 언어 특성을 요약하고 현대적으로 발전할 수 있는 실마리를 제공하고자 한다. Since the 21st century, Chinese fine brushwork painting has presented a new look to the public. The new era has given a new language to traditional Chinese painting. Under the influence of the impact of Western art forms, people's aesthetic way of traditional Chinese painting has also changed. In the process of cultural exchange, collision, and integration between China and the West, traditional Chinese painting inherits the tradition and keeps pace with the times, and forms the style of "new fine brushwork" with the features of the times under the new cultural background. A group of painters are constantly trying to break through the shackles of tradition, seeking the path of "new fine brushwork," and exploring the unique expression of "new fine brushwork." Their new attempt expands the boundaries of traditional fine brushwork painting, makes the development of traditional fine brushwork painting full of vitality in the contemporary era, and presents the possibility of the future development of traditional fine brushwork painting. In the mid-1990s, Xu Lei began to innovate himself constantly. Based on traditional fine brushwork paintings of flowers and birds, he integrated Western art concepts and art forms into the creation of Chinese painting. The traditional fine brushwork painting was painted with exquisite brushwork, with dyeing layer by layer. After many overlaying dyeing, the color is thick and deep, while the picture is exquisite and neat. Xu's paintings, however, break through the boundaries of traditional fine brushwork painting and play a role in guiding the exploration and innovation of contemporary "new fine brushwork" painting. This article takes Xu's painting works as the research objects. Based on the study of painting creation techniques, an analysis is carried out on the paintings' color techniques and forms of expression. In the meantime, a comparative analysis is made on the line of traditional fine brushwork painting and the new one, summarizing characteristics of expression language of the "new fine brushwork" paintings and providing more clues for the development of contemporary "new fine brushwork."

        Continuous Conversion of Rice Starch Hydrolysate to 2-keto-D-gluconic Acid by Arthrobacter globiformis C224

        A continuous conversion process of rice starch hydrolysate to 2-keto-D-gluconic acid (2KGA) by Arthrobacter globiformis C224 was developed. Its feasibility for industrial application was also evaluated. Results showed that the initial cell concentration exceeding 1.25 g/L met the continuous 2KGA production at a stable dilution rate and media composition, while the dilution rate and feeding glucose concentration had a significant effect on 2KGA production performance. The optimal operating parameters were obtained as: 0.090/h of dilution rate and 171.0 g/L of feeding glucose concentration. Under these conditions, the steady state had a produced 2KGA concentration of 124.74 g/L, average volumetric productivity of 11.23 g/L/h,and yield of 0.97 g/g. In conclusion, continuous 2KGA production by the A. globiformis C224 strain would be a superior industrial process for the production of 2KGA in terms of its high 2KGA productivity and yield.

        Seismic Stability of 3D Tunnel Face Considering Tensile Strength Cut-off

        Earthquakes can have a very adverse effect on tunnel excavation. The Mohr-Coulomb failure criterion is modified by introducing tensile strength cut-off, which allows nonlinear strength reduction of soil under tensile conditions, and kinematic analysis of tunnel face subjected to the earthquake is carried out. The pseudo-dynamic method is adopted to simulate the earthquake with the acceleration varying with time and space, improving the accuracy of the simulation. The external power and internal energy dissipation rate are equal to obtain the expression of tunnel face support pressure under the limit analysis framework. And the most unfavorable tunnel face support pressure is optimized by using the method of exhaustion. Compared with other research results, the validity of this method is proved. The influence of soil parameters and pseudo-dynamic parameters on the critical support pressure is revealed by further parameter analysis. Finally, this study provides an effective reference for seismic design of tunnel engineering construction.

        mRNA Expression of Ovine Angiopoietin-like Protein 4 Gene in Adipose Tissues

        Angiopoietin-like protein 4 (ANGPTL4) is involved in a variety of functions, including lipoprotein metabolism and angiogenesis. To reveal the role of ANGPTL4 in fat metabolism of sheep, ovine ANGPTL4 mRNA expression was analyzed in seven adipose tissues from two breeds with distinct tail types. Forty-eight animals with the gender ratio of 1:1 for both Guangling Large Tailed (GLT) and Small Tailed Han (STH) sheep were slaughtered at 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, and 12 months of age, respectively. Adipose tissues were collected from greater and lesser omental, subcutaneous, retroperitoneal, perirenal, mesenteric, and tail fats. Ontogenetic mRNA expression of ANGPTL4 in these adipose tissues from GTL and STH was studied by quantitative real time polymerase chain reaction. The results showed that ANGPTL4 mRNA expressed in all adipose tissues studied with the highest in subcutaneous and the lowest in mesenteric fat depots. Months of age, tissue and breed are the main factors that significantly influence the mRNA expression. These results provide new insights into ovine ANGPTL4 gene expression and clues for its function mechanism.

        Ontogenetic Expression of Lpin2 and Lpin3 Genes and Their Associations with Traits in Two Breeds of Chinese Fat-tailed Sheep

        Lipins play dual function in lipid metabolism by serving as phosphatidate phosphatase and transcriptional co-regulators of gene expression. Mammalian lipin proteins consist of lipin1, lipin2, and lipin3 and are encoded by their respective genes Lpin1, Lpin2, and Lpin3. To date, most studies are concerned with Lpin1, only a few have addressed Lpin2 and Lpin3. Ontogenetic expression of Lpin2 and Lpin3 and their associations with traits would help to explore their molecular and physiological functions in sheep. In this study, 48 animals with an equal number of males and females each for both breeds of fat-tailed sheep such as Guangling Large Tailed (GLT) and Small Tailed Han (STH) were chosen to evaluate the ontogenetic expression of Lpin2 and Lpin3 from eight different tissues and months of age by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Associations between gene expression and slaughter and tail traits were also analyzed. The results showed that Lpin2 mRNA was highly expressed in perirenal and tail fats, and was also substantially expressed in liver, kidney, reproductive organs (testis and ovary), with the lowest levels in small intestine and femoral biceps. Lpin3 mRNA was prominently expressed in liver and small intestine, and was also expressed at high levels in kidney, perirenal and tail fats as well as reproductive organs (testis and ovary), with the lowest level in femoral biceps. Global expression of Lpin2 and Lpin3 in GLT both were significantly higher than those in STH. Spatiotemporal expression showed that the highest levels of Lpin2 expression occurred at 10 months of age in two breeds of sheep, with the lowest expression at 2 months of age in STH and at 8 months of age in GLT. The greatest levels of Lpin3 expression occurred at 4 months of age in STH and at 10 months of age in GLT, with the lowest expression at 12 months of age in STH and at 8 months of age in GLT. Breed and age significantly influenced the tissue expression patterns of Lpin2 and Lpin3, respectively, and sex significantly influenced the spatiotemporal expression patterns of Lpin3. Meanwhile, Lpin2 and Lpin3 mRNA expression both showed significant correlations with slaughter and tail traits, and the associations appear to be related with the ontogenetic expression as well as the potential functions of lipin2 and lipin3 in sheep.

        A new hopane type pentacyclic triterpenoid, 2-hydroxydiplopterol (1) has been isolated from the metabolites produced by the halotolerant fungal strain Aspergillus variecolor B-17. The structure of 1 was determined by spectroscopic methods and single crystal X-Ray diffraction analysis. 2-Hydroxydiplopterol (1) exhibited cytotoxicity against K562 cells with an IC50 value of 22 μM.

        Forensic biogeographical ancestry inference: recent insights and current trends

        Background As a powerful complement to the paradigmatic DNA profiling strategy, biogeographical ancestry inference (BGAI) plays a significant part in human forensic investigation especially when a database hit or eyewitness testimony are not available. It indicates one’s biogeographical profile based on known population-specific genetic variations, and thus is crucial for guiding authority investigations to find unknown individuals. Forensic biogeographical ancestry testing exploits much of the recent advances in the understanding of human genomic variation and improving of molecular biology. Objective In this review, recent development of prospective ancestry informative markers (AIMs) and the statistical approaches of inferring biogeographic ancestry from AIMs are elucidated and discussed. Methods We highlight the research progress of three potential AIMs (i.e., single nucleotide polymorphisms, microhaplotypes, and Y or mtDNA uniparental markers) and discuss the prospects and challenges of two methods that are commonly used in BGAI. Conclusion While BGAI for forensic purposes has been thriving in recent years, important challenges, such as ethics and responsibilities, data completeness, and ununified standards for evaluation, remain for the use of biogeographical ancestry information in human forensic investigations. To address these issues and fully realize the value of BGAI in forensic investigation, efforts should be made not only by labs/institutions around the world independently, but also by inter-lab/institution collaborations.
