        <P>Wi-Fi has become an essential wireless technology in our daily lives, although the original intention of its introduction was to replace Ethernet cable. In this article, we outline the most remarkable features introduced during its ongoing technological evolution in terms of three major directions: throughput enhancement, longrange extension, and greater ease of use. By stitching these advanced features together, we also envision a promising future that Wi-Fi technology will bring us in terms of spectrum heterogeneity, seamless service provisioning, and possible relations with cellular networks.</P>

        On Harmonious Characteristic of the Cultural Value Ideas of the Eastern Asia

        相對于西方以沖突和競爭爲特質的文化价値觀, 重和諧是東亞文化价値觀的基本特質。東亞文化价値觀在人與自然的關系上信守“天人合一”、人與自然和諧相處;在人與人的關系上堅持“和爲貴”, 崇尙秩序與團隊精神;在身心關系上, 力求通過修身養性, 追求內在的和諧、良心的安寧。在社會實踐中實現和諧目標, 關鍵在于使万事万物各得其所, 行爲謹守中庸之道。東亞文化价値觀重和諧, 有助于建構人與自然、社會及人自身之間的協調關系, 有助于建設和諧社會與“和諧東亞”;但不恰當地看待和諧與中庸, 也造成了一些消極后果, 這需要東亞社會進行新的自我調适, 自主創造。 The basic characteristic of the cultural value ideas of the west is conflict and competition, but the basic characteristic of the cultural value ideas of the Eastern Asia is harmony. For example, in the relations between people and nature, People in Eastern Asia believe in the union of the Human beings and the nature in which they think that man and nature can coexist harmoniously; in the relations among people, they insist “He Wei Gui”(harmony is precious) and admire social order and the team-cooperation idea; in the relations between mind and body, they try their best to obtain internal harmony and quietness by self-cultivation. To Cany out the harmonious target in the process of social practice, The key step lies in making everything gets what they needs, and insist on strictly “the doctrine of mean” in behavior. For the cultural value ideas of the Eastern Asia that harmony is the most important, that is helpful for Contributing to the coordination relation between people and nature, society and themselves, and building the harmonious society and “the harmonious Eastern Asia”.         Anti‐SOX1 Antibodies in Paraneoplastic Neurological Syndrome

        Anti-Sry-like high mobility group box (SOX) 1 antibodies (abs) are partly characterized onconeural autoantibodies (autoabs) due to their correlation with neoplastic diseases. Anti- SOX1 abs are associated with various clinical manifestations, including Lambert-Eaton myasthenic syndrome (LEMS) and paraneoplastic cerebellar degeneration (PCD). However, the clinical characteristics of patients with anti-SOX1 abs have not been described in detail. This review systematically explores the reported patients with anti-SOX1 abs and analyzes these cases for demographic characteristics, clinical features, coexisting neuronal autoabs, neuroimaging findings, treatment, and clinical outcomes. In addition, considering that PCD is the most common paraneoplastic neurological syndrome and that the association between PCD and anti-SOX1 abs remains unclear, we focus on the presence of autoabs in relation to PCD and associated tumors. PCD-associated autoabs include various intracellular autoabs (e.g., anti-Hu, anti-Yo, anti-Ri, and anti-SOX1) and cell-surface autoabs (anti-P/Q-type voltage-gated calcium channel). Commonly involved tumors in PCD are small-cell lung cancer (SCLC), gynecological, and breast tumors. LEMS is the most common clinical symptom in patients with anti- SOX1 abs, followed by PCD, and multiple neuronal autoabs coexist in 47.1% of these patients. SCLC is still the predominant tumor in patients with anti-SOX1 abs, while non-SCLC is uncommon. No consistent imaging feature is found in patients with anti-SOX1 abs, and there is no consensus on either the therapy choice or therapeutic efficacy. In conclusion, the presence of anti-SOX1 abs alone is a potential predictor of an uncommon paraneoplastic neurological disorder, usually occurring in the setting of LEMS, PCD, and SCLC. The detection of anti-SOX1 abs contributes to an early diagnosis of underlying tumors, given the diversity of clinical symptoms and the absence of characteristic neuroimaging features.

        Continuous gas–liquid aerobic oxidation of toluene catalyzed by [T(p-Cl)PPFe]2O in a series of three stirred tank reactors

        The liquid-phase catalytic aerobic oxidation of toluene by [T(p-Cl)PPFe]2O was studied in a series of three stirred tank reactors. The effects of operation mode (including semi-batch and continuous operation), reaction temperature, catalyst concentration, average residence time, and air flow rate on the oxidation process were examined. The experimental results showed that continuous oxidation had no advantage over the total yield and selectivity of benzaldehyde and benzyl alcohol in comparison with semi-batch oxidation. And the reaction temperature was the most significant factor influencing on continuous oxidation of toluene. It is also found that adopting sequentially decreased temperature in the three series reactors could improve the yield and selectivity of benzaldehyde and benzyl alcohol in this process. Under which at the higher conversion of toluene, the total yield to benzaldehyde and benzyl alcohol increased 17.05% or 43.62% respectively in comparison with adopting sequentially increased or same temperature in the three series reactors.

        Characteristic analysis on train-induced vibration responses of rigid-frame RC viaducts

        A three-dimensional (3D) numerical analysis for the train-bridge interaction (TBI) system is actively developed in this study in order to investigate the vibration characteristics of rigid-frame reinforced concrete (RC) viaducts in both vertical and lateral directions respectively induced by running high-speed trains. An analytical model of the TBI system is established, in which the high-speed train is described by multi-DOFs vibration system and the rigid-frame RC viaduct is modeled with 3D beam elements. The simulated track irregularities are taken as system excitations. The numerical analytical algorithm is established based on the coupled vibration equations of the TBI system and verified through the detailed comparative study between the computation and testing. The vibration responses of the viaducts such as accelerations, displacements, reaction forces of pier bottoms as well as their amplitudes with train speeds are calculated in detail for both vertical and lateral directions, respectively. The frequency characteristics are further clarified through Fourier spectral analysis and 1/3 octave band spectral analysis. This study is intended to provide not only a simulation approach and evaluation tool for the train-induced vibrations upon the rigid-frame RC viaducts, but also instructive information on the vibration mitigation of the high-speed railway.

        Effects of Increased Iodine Intake on Thyroid Disorders

        Iodine is a micronutrient essential for the production of thyroid hormones. Iodine deficiency is the most common cause of preventable mental impairment worldwide. Universal salt iodization (USI) has been introduced in many countries as a cost-effective and sustainable way to eliminate iodine deficiency disorders for more than 25 years. Currently, the relationship between USI and iodine excess has attracted more attention. Iodine excess can lead to hypothyroidism and autoimmune thyroiditis, especially for susceptible populations with recurring thyroid disease, the elderly, fetuses, and neonates. Nationwide USI was introduced in China in 1996. This review focused on the effects of iodine excess worldwide and particularly in China.

        Influential Parameter Analysis on Vibration Responses of Rigid-frame Viaducts Induced by Running High-speed Trains

        This study is intended to clarify the parametric influence for the vibration responses of rigid-frame viaducts in both vertical and lateral directions caused by running high-speed trains. A developed 3D numerical analysis approach considering trainbridge interaction is applied to investigate the vibration characteristics of rigid-frame viaducts. The analytical model is composed of the high-speed train model with multi-DOFs vibration system for each car and the rigid-frame viaduct model with three bridge blocks. They are linked by an assumed wheel-rail relation through the rail model considering the simulated track irregularities. By using the analytical model, the parametric study is carried out. The impact factors including train speed, train type, track irregularity, rail type and damping are investigated and identified as significant variables. The analytical results are significant and give some instructive information regarding the impact factors of the train-bridge system which could be much helpful for the mitigation of vibration and the maintenance in the high-speed railway.

        On M engzi’s U nderstanding of Nature

        在孟子看來, 天沒有超自然神性, 天是自然。但此自然不是物性的自然, 而是生命的自然。生命自然既有物性, 也有神性, 它的本質或說善是“創生不已之真幾”。人源出於自然, 也是一自然。孟子在不忽略人的物性自然的同時, 更加注重人的神性自然, 從而把天或說自然的善本身轉化為道德性的善本身, 自然“創生不已”的本質或說善落在人性上則成為能“創生不已”的性善。性善內在於人之身, 孟子以心善為性善。善能為身之心所體知, 更顯明性善為自然。這是孟子道德本論體的自然說。道德本體論意義上的善只是善根, 善根因“創生不已”之本質從而要求修養實踐善, 並予其以方式, 即自得、自然而然的方式。這是孟子修養論的自然說。經修養實踐而圓滿的善則成爲一種新的自然, 這種自然是人與自然融合無間的自然, 即天人合一的境界。這是孟子境界論的自然說。孟子的自然說是一個有著辯證過程的自然。 For Mengzi, heaven had no supernatural qualities but referred instead to nature. However, this view of nature was not purely materialistic, but was an idea of nature which included or encompassed life. Such a concept of nature has not only materialistic properties but spiritual ones as well. Its essential goodness of nature is the true mechanism of endless creation. In such a view, human beings both originated from nature and are part of nature. While Mengzi did not ignore humans’ physical properties of humans, he paid more attention to their spiritual nature, frequently transforming the goodness of heaven or nature into the goodness of human nature. Mengzi held that goodness exists inherently inside the human body, and he interpreted the goodness of mind as the goodness of human nature. For Mengzi, goodness is something that the mind can learn, which clearly shows the goodness of human nature is a natural truth. This is one aspect of nature what Mengzi’s moral ontology refers to. In moral ontology, goodness refers to the roots of goodness. Goodness can be obtained in a very natural way, since the roots of goodness generate endlessly. This shows the characteristics of nature in Mengzi’s teaching of moral cultivation. Through moral cultivation human beings become one with nature, and heaven and man correspond and become one. Likewise, Mengzi’s understanding of nature has dialectical aspects. [Article in Chinese]
