The major purpose of this research was to identify high school students' misconceptions on physiology. Misconceptions of scientific concepts have been believed to be very persistent and difficult to be overcome through regular classroom activities. Therefore, to find out students' misconceptions and students' cognitive structure must be very important to design instructions as well as curriculum. In order to find out high school students' misconceptions on physiology, a open-ended form of questionnaire on the physiology of several biological areas was developed and sent to fifty-three high school students. Their responses were collected and analyzed. From the analysis of all the Korean text books, it was found that some concepts were not described correctly. At the same time, the terminology used in the text books was different from book to book. These incorrect presentations and inconsistent use of terminology would have been the source of students' misconceptions on biology. Although the pattern of misconceptions that Korean students have in the area of photosynthesis was generally similar to one by foreign students, the misconceptions arose from biological terminology such as excretion and elimination were found to be specifically developed in Korean students who use Korean language. Although there a few special misconceptions in fragmentary lower-level concepts, there were some misconceptions in comprehensive and fundamental higher-level concepts. This probably could have resulted from the fact that too many concepts were included in current Korean textbooks and the entrance examination items were only knowledge level which need only be memorized line by line. Therefore, the content and concepts should be very carefully chosen in the text books.

Safety aspect in the manufacturing facility or construction site is increasingly emphasized in Korea for last a decade. As a result, the number of industrial accident is decreased slowly through organizational efforts. For reduction of industrial accidents, we must increase the reliability of both the equipment and human performance. This paper proposes a mathematical model to estimate and predict the human error rate correspondong to the worker's job experience. For this purpose, we used the statistics of industrial accidents issued by the Department of Labor in the year of 90-92. The methodology developed in this research will provide a basis for better cost estimation in planning labor policy in the early stage of a project. We believe that this effort would eventually lead to a basis for a new approach to the safety planning.
하부팽창형 임프란트의 유한요소 분석 및 골형성에 대한 연구

The aim of this study was to evaluate by finite element analysis influence of investigated expanding implant on stress distribution and to observe biocompatibility, bone formation feature and change in the bone contact area around the explanding implant through experimental animal study. FEA models of the mandible were constructed based on three-dimensional graphic data of the bone structure around an osseointegrated implant, analysis of stress distribution followed by 100N vertical, 50N horizontal was done. And in the animal study, expanding implant were placed in the mandibles of eight Korean mongrel dogs and analyzed the results with histomorphometric measurements. In finite element analysis, compressive stresses are produced at the bone tissue surrounding the implant, and the contact area between the implant and the bone tissue is increased, which result in increased resistance to horizontal and vertical pressure loads. In the histomorphometric analysis, the measured ratio of the contact surface and bon density between implant and bone was similar to those of the controlled group from 6 weeks. It is thought that increased horizontal and vertical resistance is a great help to the immediate loading on expanding implant and that there needs standardizing quantitative measurement of implant stability and osseointegration to determine whether or not to use the functional loading and to reduce the total treatment period reliably by placing functional loading on each implant based on both bone quality and implant stability.
다량의 하부위장관출혈이 병발된 Vibrio vulnificus 패혈증 1예

최근 저자들은 Vibrio vulnificus 감염에 의해 패혈증 및 이차성 피부 병변을 보인 42세의 남자 환자의 치료중 하부 위장관 출혈이 병발된 1예를 경험하였기에 보고하는 바이다. We experienced a case of Vibrop vulnificus septicemia which showed an unusual manifestation such as hematochezia. The patient was a 42-year-old man with chronic liver disease. The blood and wound culture revealed the organism. During intensive care, he suffered from massive hematochezi for several days. Colonoscopy and abdominal CT showed findings suspicious of ischemic colitis. To our knowledge, this is the first unusual case of V.vulnificus infection which showed massive lower gastrointestinal bleeding.
