올림픽 마스코트 디자인의 형태적 변화에 대한 기호학적 연구 - 동계올림픽 마스코트를 중심으로 -

올림픽 마스코트는 개최도시와 국가의 고유한 역사, 문화, 그리고 특정 의미를 전달하며, 대중과의 관계는 보다 인터렉티브해지고 이벤트 홍보와 마케팅의 대변인으로서 마스코트의 역할이 커져가고 있는 추세이다. 이러한 올림픽 마스코트의 뉴미디어에 따른 홍보와 브랜드적 가치에 기인하여 마케팅 도구로써 마스코트의 기능과 효과적 접근이 필요하다 하겠다. 본 연구는 이에 따라 올림픽 정신과 특정 의미를 효과적으로 전달하고 있는 마스코트를 대상으로 1976년 동계올림픽을 시작으로 최근에 이르는 동계 올림픽까지 연구범위로 정하여, 퍼스 기호학의 삼원적 범주를 바탕으로 기호학적 관점과 동작기호 개념을 통해 의미작용을 다음과 같이 연구·분석 하였다. 첫째, 올림픽 마스코트의 동작기호와 표정기호는 대중을 포옹하는 긍정적인 이미지와 의미를 전달한다. 둘째, 인간과 동물의 특징을 살린 마스코트의 기호화는 수용자에게 좀 더 긍정적이고 감성적 표현으로 의미를 전달한다. 셋째, 올림픽 마스코트의 섬세한 도상적 표현과 변화는 컴퓨터 게임과 판타지 영화와 같은 가상세계의 사실적인 묘사에서 비롯된다. 넷째, 온라인 게임이나 인터렉션 환경 속에서 대중들과 연결되어 브랜드로써 잠재적 가능성을 가지는 강력한 메타포가 될 수 있다. 대중들은 자신과 연관되어있지 않은 것에 관심을 가지는 것을 매우 인색해 한다. 따라서 인터렉션 경험 등의 다양한 미디어의 변화에 맞춰 대중이 공감할 수 있는 개최도시와 국가만의 고유한 역사와 문화 콘텐츠를 개발·연결하고, 동작기호를 통해 친근하게 다가갈수 있는 ‘살아 움직이는 인격체’로 대중의 마음과 감성을 포용하도록 접근하는 것이 요구된다. Olympic mascots covey an unique history, culture and specific meaning of the host city and become more interactive with the public in relationship and the role of mascots which speak event publicity and marketing is increasing. Due to publicity and brand values of mascots through the new media, mascots need to access effective approaches and functions as a marketing tool. Thus, this study is intended for the mascot, which effectively passes the Olympic spirit and specific meaning from 1976 to the present Winter Olympics. The meaningful actions were analyzed through the semiotic perspective and the sign concept based on the three-way categories of Peirce’s semiotics. First, the motion symbols and the expression symbols of the Olympic mascot appear as an important factor to convey a positive image. Second, the mascot utilizing the features of humans and animals can convey its meaning to consumers in more positive and emotional expressions. Third, the delicate iconic representation and transformation of the Olympic mascot affected by the development of a computer games and the fantasy movie characters. Fourth, the symbolic mascot has a potential possibility as a brand. The public is very stingy when it comes to getting interested in something unrelated to them. Thus, unique historical and cultural contents should be developed to sympathize with the public's needs. Adapting to an era's change with various media and by fulfilling people's needs can captivate the audience's heart with mascots that resemble a ‘live human being'.

시간 관련 데이터 시각화의 정보디자인에 관한 연구 - 주기적, 순환적 시간을 중심으로 -

Many application areas are connected to time and different from quantitative data generally consists of a unique form of the structure, such as a different time in minutes, hours, days, weeks, and months, and includes periodic or cyclic characteristics in detail. In particular, the linear time which is different from periodic time is considered to analyze the characteristic of various data of time in order to visualize the data. We often think that the day ends with the end of the 24 hour. However a continuous cycle movement of time proceeds going toward 11:59pm to 1:00 o’clock the next day over midnight, and takes periodic type which returns to weeks, months, years that is not recognized. To indicate the continuity the characteristic of time is visualized in circular and spiral form and it is effective when visualizing the characteristics of the time to emphasize th continuous nature. This study is to share results about effective time-oriented data visualization methods for designers who study and design data information about time, especially of periodical or cyclical structure. By analyzing the characteristics of the time structure, designers are able to make the decision on the design method of data visualization and to visually maximize the meaning of contents. 시간은 뚜렷한 특성과 함께 중요한 데이터 영역을 가지고 있다. 많은 응용 영역이 시간과 연관되어 있고 일반적 양적 데이터 범위와는 다르게 분(minutes), 시(hours), 일(days), 주(weeks) 그리고 달(months)과 같은 시간의 고유한 형태 구조로 구성되며, 세부적으로 직선적 또는 주기적(순환적) 형태를 포함한다. 특히, 직선적 시간과 차이를 보이는 주기적(순환적) 시간은 데이터를 시각화하기 위해 시간의 여러 데이터의 특성을 분석하고 이해하는 것이 요구된다. 우리는 흔히 24시를 끝으로 하루가 종료된다고 생각하지만 연속적인 사이클 운동은 오후 11시 59분에서 일직선상으로 오전 1시로 이어지는 자정을 향해 달려간다는 사실과 연속적으로 앞을 향해 진행하여 주(weeks), 월(months), 년(years)으로 되돌아오는 주기적 형태를 띤다는 것을 인식하지 못한다. 이러한 시간의 특성은 연속성을 나타내기 위해 크게 원형과 나선형의 두 형태로 시각화되는데, 연속적 특성을 강조하기 위한 시간의 특성을 시각화 할 때 효과적이다. 본 연구는 시간에 관련된 데이터, 특히 주기적(순환적) 시간과 관련된 데이터 시각화를 중심으로 사례를 조사하여 시간의 특성을 활용한 다양한 접근 방법을 알아보고 시간구조의 특징을 분석함으로써 시간 관련 데이터 시각화의 체계적이고 적절한 시각화 접근 방법을 알아보려고 한다.

Mechanisms of capacity limits: Serial bottleneck or graded resource?

The current review examined how information is processed in the brain. Specifically, I investigated whether multiple inputs encoded into the brain are processed in a serial manner or they are processed in parallel. An extensive review of the literature regarding behavioral and neuroscientific studies revealed that whether information is processed in a serial or parallel manner depends on the stage of human information processing. Specifically, at the early, perceptual stage, multiple inputs can be processed in parallel as perceptual resource can be flexibly allocated to the inputs, whereas at the central stage, only a single input can be processed at a time. This review elucidates the cases in which serial or parallel processing is implemented in the brain, contributing to better understanding of how the capacity-limited brain hands information overload.

Myoclonus manifests in a variety of situations including epilepsy, metabolic derangements, brain lesions, and toxicity of drugs. A 57-year-old woman with end-stage renal disease was given gabapentin 900 mg/day for legs’ paresthesia. Two days after taking gabapentin, multifocal myoclonus developed involving all extremities. Three days after discontinuation of gabapentin, myoclonus resolved completely. No deterioration of renal function was noted before and after the occurrence of myoclonus. Administration of gabapentin should be performed with caution in patients with impaired renal function.

전시 포스터의 시각표현유형에 관한 연구 -2015~2021년 국립중앙박물관 포스터를 중심으로-

The exhibition poster serves as a visual information delivery tool that connects to the public with the exhibition by visualizing the specific purpose of the exhibition as well as the information delivery function. Therefore, the exhibition poster prefers the use of typography with emphasis on uniqueness and values visual expressions that give the overall symbolism of the exhibition. The purpose of this study is to analyze the visual type from the perspective of Hangeul typography, focusing on exhibition posters. The scope of the study is limited to the National Hangeul Museum, which experiments and displays the convergence of Hangeul and various fields, and a total of 27 posters focused on Hangeul produced from 2015 to 2021 will be set as the scope of the study. For research, typography is classified into four items (typography, layout, color, and image) and analyzed as a visual type accordingly. As a result, first, the typeface type used in the exhibition poster has a high frequency of use of the Minburi(Sans-Serif) font, and the typeface thickness has a high rate of use of thick typefaces. Second, the layout shows a high frequency of placing letters at the top, and the range of use of letters is less than 1/5. Third, the use of achromatic colors is significantly higher for the color type. Fourth, as for the background image, there are many posters using typography as the background image. 전시포스터는 정보 전달 기능뿐만 아니라 전시의 특정 목적을 시각화하여 대중과 전시회를 가장 먼저 이어주는시각적 정보전달 도구로서 역할을 한다. 따라서 전시 포스터는 고유성이 강조된 타이포그래피의 사용을 선호하고전시의 전반적인 상징성을 부여하는 시각적 표현을 중요시 한다. 따라서 본 연구는 전시 포스터를 중심으로 한글타이포그래피의 관점에서 시각표현유형을 분석하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 연구범위는 한글과 다양한 분야의 융합을실험하고 전시하는 국립한글박물관으로 한정하며, 2015년부터 2021년까지 전시회를 위해 제작된 한글 중심의 총27개의 포스터를 연구범위로 설정한다. 연구를 위해 타이포그래피는 4개의 항목별(타이포그래피, 레이아웃, 컬러, 이미지)로 분류되고 그에 따른 시각적 표현유형으로 분석된다. 연구결과 첫째, 전시 포스터에 사용된 글자유형은민부리형의 사용빈도가 높았으며, 글자 굵기는 두꺼운 글자 사용 비율이 높았다. 둘째, 레이아웃은 글자를 상단에위치시키는 빈도가 높게 나타났으며, 글자의 사용범위는 1/5이하의 활용 비율이 높았다. 셋째, 컬러 유형은 무채색의 사용이 월등하게 높게 나타났다. 넷째, 배경 이미지는 타이포그래피를 배경 이미지로 사용한 포스터가 많았다.
