Embedded SoC Design of a Portable Health Care Monitoring System using Photonic Sensors
Truong Quang Vinh,Ju-Hyun Park,Young-Chul Kim,Seong-Mo Park 대한전자공학회 2007 ITC-CSCC :International Technical Conference on Ci Vol.2007 No.7
Monitoring daily health condition is essential for elderly people. In this research, we developed an embedded SoC prototype of the home health care system that is used for monitoring blood glucose, blood pressure, heart rate, and body temperature. The target users of this system are aged persons who live alone at home and need to be monitored health condition daily. The architecture of the health care monitoring system is built based on hard/soft IP cores that are developed in reuse methodology. The system provides accuracy bio-signal measurement by optical sensors, friendly user interface by embedded medial GUI, and health care data management by remote monitor.
A Study on Low Power Buffer Design for Video Processing Systems
Truong Quang Vinh,Young-Chul Kim(김영철) 한국멀티미디어학회 2009 한국멀티미디어학회 학술발표논문집 Vol.2009 No.1
Power consumption is the most concern in the high performance portable systems. This paper presents some techniques for designing data buffer in video processing systems. The major component of power dissipation is due to the data switching and clocking activities on system buses and buffers. Therefore, we consider applying power-reduction schemes for data buses and buffers using a combination of frame buffer tiling, SRAM/SDRAM configuring, and data bus width optimizing. The correct design can significantly reduce the power consumption of the digital video systems.
FPGA Implementation of De-interlacing Using Hybrid Interpolation
Truong Quang Vinh,Seong-Min Jang,Young-Chul Kim,Sung-Hoon Hong 대한전자공학회 2009 ITC-CSCC :International Technical Conference on Ci Vol.2009 No.7
This paper presents an efficient deinterlacing technique using hybrid interpolation and its FPGA implementation. Our algorithm is based on motion adaptive technique which combines intra-field and inter-field deinterlacing method. The moving and static regions are classified by motion detection algorithm. Static regions are deinterlaced by temporal interpolation, while moving regions are deinterlaced by a hybrid interpolation. Our hybrid interpolation is a combination of spatial edge-dependent deinterlacing and temporal deinterlacing with a spatio-temporal factor. A hardware implementation for proposed algorithm is designed and targeted for HDTV applications. Experimental results indicate that the proposed algorithm outperforms conventional approaches with respect to both objective and subjective criteria.
Edge-Preserving Algorithm for Block Artifact Reduction and Its Pipelined Architecture
Truong Quang Vinh,Young-Chul Kim 한국전자통신연구원 2010 ETRI Journal Vol.32 No.3
This paper presents a new edge-protection algorithm and its very large scale integration (VLSI) architecture for block artifact reduction. Unlike previous approaches using block classification, our algorithm utilizes pixel classification to categorize each pixel into one of two classes, namely smooth region and edge region, which are described by the edge-protection maps. Based on these maps, a two-step adaptive filter which includes offset filtering and edge-preserving filtering is used to remove block artifacts. A pipelined VLSI architecture of the proposed deblocking algorithm for HD video processing is also presented in this paper. A memory-reduced architecture for a block buffer is used to optimize memory usage. The architecture of the proposed deblocking filter is verified on FPGA Cyclone II and implemented using the ANAM 0.25 μm CMOS cell library. Our experimental results show that our proposed algorithm effectively reduces block artifacts while preserving the details. The PSNR performance of our algorithm using pixel classification is better than that of previous algorithms using block classification.
Optimizing Content Duration for Mobile Ads
Vinh Truong 대한전자공학회 2016 IEIE Transactions on Smart Processing & Computing Vol.5 No.4
Optimizing the number of ad clicks is a large-scale learning problem that is central to the multi-billion–dollar mobile advertising industry. There are currently several optimization methods being used, including ad mediation and ad positioning. Recently, researchers have recommended using ad refresh interval as a new method for optimizing mobile advertising. This paper applies that new method to optimize content duration for mobile ads. The result achieved from this optimization study could further increase revenue for mobile advertisers and publishers. This research has high applicability for the growing mobile advertising industry. It also lays out a solid background for future research in this promising area.

Optimizing the number of ad clicks is a large-scale learning problem that is central to the multi-billion dollar mobile advertising industry. There are currently several optimization methods used, including ad mediation and ad positioning. This paper proposes a new method to optimize mobile advertising by using the ad refresh interval. A new metric, which can measure and compare mobile advertising performance, takes into account time limitations. The results achieved from this optimization study could maximize revenue for mobile advertisers and publishers. This research has high applicability. It also lays out a solid background for future research in this promising area.
