      • A comprehensive analysis of horizontally polarized shear waves in a thin microstructural plate

Vikas Sharma,Satish Kumar 국제구조공학회 2023 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.85 No.4

Horizontally polarized shear waves (SH) have numerous applications in various scientific, engineering, and medical fields. The study deals with an investigation of SH-waves in a thin microstructural plate. The plate has been mathematically modelled by employing size dependent consistent couple stress theory, which involves a length parameter, known as characteristic length. Characteristic length is assumed to be of the order of internal microstructures of the material. Dispersion relations have been calculated for the propagation of SH-waves using different set of boundary conditions. Group velocity of the SH-waves has been calculated by using an analytical approach. The mathematical results obtained in the problem are discussed in detail and the impacts of characteristic length parameter and thickness of plate are presented on phase velocity of SH-waves through graphical illustrations.

        Vikas Sharma,Krishnan Rajeshwari,Deepak Kumar,Garima Gupta 대한소아신경학회 2023 대한소아신경학회지 Vol.31 No.2

Purpose: This study aimed to determine the clinicoepidemiological profile and prognostic factors in children with neurotuberculosis. Methods: An observational study was conducted at a tertiary care hospital on 50 children diagnosed with neurotuberculosis. The demographic profile, clinical details, and all investigations were recorded on a predetermined form and datasheet for analysis, and disability severity was graded using the modified Rankin Scale. Results: Fifty patients were enrolled (male-to-female ratio, 1.08:1). Younger children (1 to 3 years) were more commonly affected. Most patients were malnourished, and only 58% had been immunized with the Bacillus Calmette-Guerin vaccine. Fever was the most common symptom (96%) followed by headache, altered consciousness, vomiting, seizures, and abnormal posture. On cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) analysis, 87% of patients showed pleocytosis with lymphocytic predominance. More than 80% of patients had CSF protein levels >100 mg/dL and CSF glucose levels <60 mg/dL. Common findings on neuroimaging were hydrocephalus (76%), basal meningeal enhancement (60%), basal exudates (52%), and parenchymal infarcts (32%). We noted a mortality rate of 40%, of whom 87.5% had modified British Medical Research Council (BMRC) stage 3 tubercular meningitis (TBM). All patients who survived stage 3 TBM had a severe disability, and over 50% of patients with stage 2 TBM had moderate to severe disabilities. Conclusion: Young age, lower socioeconomic status, BMRC stages 2 and 3, abnormal posture, hydrocephalus, and the presence of basal exudates were associated with poor outcomes. High suspicion is needed for early diagnosis and prevention of disability and mortality.

Influence of microstructure, heterogeneity and internal friction on SH waves propagation in a viscoelastic layer overlying a couple stress substrate

Vikas Sharma,Satish Kumar 국제구조공학회 2016 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.57 No.4

In this paper, we have investigated shear horizontal wave propagation in a layered structure, consisting of granular macromorphic rock (Dionysos Marble) substrate underlying a viscoelastic layer of finite thickness. SH waves characteristics are affected by the material properties of both substrate and the coating. The effects of microstructural parameter “characteristic length” of the substrate, along with heterogeneity, internal friction and thickness of viscoelastic layer are studied on the dispersion curves. Dispersion equation for SH wave is derived. Real and damping phase velocities of SH waves are studied against dimensionless wave number, for different combinations of various parameters involved in the problem.

Comparison of Topology Based-Routing Protocols in Wireless Network

Sharma, Vikas,Ganpati, Anita Korea Multimedia Society 2019 The journal of multimedia information system Vol.6 No.2

VANET (Vehicular Ad-hoc Network) is a mobile Ad-hoc Network which deals with the moving vehicles. VANET supports Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) which is related to different modes of transport and traffic management techniques. VANETs enabled users to be informed and make them safer. VANET uses IEEE 802.11p standard wireless access protocol for communication. An important and necessary issue of VANET is to design routing protocols. In a network, communication takes place by the use of the routing protocols. There are mainly two types of communications used such as Vehicle to Vehicle (V2V) and Vehicle to Infrastructure (V2I) in VANET. Vehicles can send and receive messages among them and also to and from infrastructure used. In this paper, AODV, DSR and DSDV are compared by analysing the results of simulation on various metrics such as average throughput, instant throughput, packet delivery ratio and residual energy. Findings indicates utilization of AODV and DSR is more applicable for these metrics as compared to DSDV. A network simulator (NS2) is used for simulation.

Classical and Bayesian methods of estimation for power Lindley distribution with application to waiting time data

Sharma, Vikas Kumar,Singh, Sanjay Kumar,Singh, Umesh The Korean Statistical Society 2017 Communications for statistical applications and me Vol.24 No.3

The power Lindley distribution with some of its properties is considered in this article. Maximum likelihood, least squares, maximum product spacings, and Bayes estimators are proposed to estimate all the unknown parameters of the power Lindley distribution. Lindley's approximation and Markov chain Monte Carlo techniques are utilized for Bayesian calculations since posterior distribution cannot be reduced to standard distribution. The performances of the proposed estimators are compared based on simulated samples. The waiting times of research articles to be accepted in statistical journals are fitted to the power Lindley distribution with other competing distributions. Chi-square statistic, Kolmogorov-Smirnov statistic, Akaike information criterion and Bayesian information criterion are used to access goodness-of-fit. It was found that the power Lindley distribution gives a better fit for the data than other distributions.
