A Decomposition Approach for Fixed Channel Assignment Problems in Large-Scale Cellular Networks

Jin, Ming-Hui,Wu, Eric Hsiao-Kuang,Horng, Jorng-Tzong The Korea Institute of Information and Commucation 2003 Journal of communications and networks Vol.5 No.1

Due to insufficient available bandwidth resources and the continuously growing demand for cellular communication services, the channel assignment problem has become increasingly important. To trace the optimal assignment, several heuristic strategies have been proposed. So far, most of them focus on the small-scale systems containing no more than 25 cells and they use an anachronistic cost model, which does not satisfy the requirements ity. Solving the small-scale channel assignment problems could not be applied into existing large scale cellular networks' practice. This article proposes a decomposition approach to solve the fixed channel assignment problem (FCAP) for large-scale cellular networks through partitioning the whole cellular network into several smaller sub-networks and then designing a sequential branch-and-bound algorithm that is made to solve the FCAP for them sequentially. The key issue of partition is to minimize the dependences of the sub-networks so that the proposed heuristics for solving smaller problems will suffer fewer constraints in searching for better assignments. The proposed algorithms perform well based on experimental results and they were applied to the Taiwan Cellular Cooperation (TCC) in ChungLi city to find better assignments for its network.

Development of Novel Tool Center Point Velocity Planning Algorithm for Five Axis Machine Tool

        Shih-Kai Wu,Meng-Shiun Tsai,Ming-Tzong Lin,Hong-Wei Huang 한국정밀공학회 2018 International Journal of Precision Engineering and Vol.19 No.8

In this paper, a tool center point (TCP) feedrate scheduling algorithm for 5-axis machine tool is developed to generate the axes interpolation commands. The proposed algorithm considers not only the constraints of TCP velocity, acceleration and jerk, but also the velocity differences of each axes at the junction of each block. First, the proposed method determines the maximum speed for each block segment at the TCP coordinate based on the computed length. Then the kinematics of the five axis machine tool is employed to derive the five-axis corner velocity difference (FCVD) formulation. The FCVD utilizes the axis velocity difference at the junction of blocks as the designed variable. As the starting and end velocities of each block are determined, the S-shape acceleration/ deceleration (Acc/Dec) method is adopted to generate both smooth TCP and rotary axis profile based on the given interpolation parameters. The servo dynamics of the five axis machine tool are utilized to evaluate the performances of the FCVD. Simulation results demonstrate that the FCVD can achieve better contour accuracy with less machining time as compared to the five-axis feedrate regulation formulation (FFRF) algorithm. Furthermore, the FCVD are compared with Heidenhain CNC controller and the results show that the FCVD has similar behaviors as the Heidenhain controller, but it can achieve less machining time.

In vitro Evaluation of the Thermosensitive and Magnetic Nanoparticles for the Controlled Drug Delivery of Vitamin D3

        Yi-Hsin Lien,Jhaol-Huei Wu,Jiunn-Wang Liao,Tzong-Ming Wu 한국고분자학회 2013 Macromolecular Research Vol.21 No.5

Thermosensitive and magnetic nanoparticles as “smart” drug carriers have shown great potential in the field of controlled drug delivery owing to their unique properties. Previously, poly(N-isopropylacrylamide)-coated silica/magnetic nanoparticles (PNIPAM/SiO2/Fe3O4 nanoparticles) were synthesized using SiO2-coated Fe3O4 nanoparticles as a template. The properties of these nanoparticles such as the transition of the lower critical solution temperature (LCST), biocompatibility, drug loading efficiency, and drug release kinetics were investigated in vitro for both targeted and controlled drug delivery. The release profile and the in vitro cancer cell inhibition activity of vitamin D3 loading for PNIPAM/SiO2/Fe3O4 nanoparticles were systemically studied. The loading and release behavior of vitamin D3 were found to be dependent on the LCST of PNIPAM/SiO2/Fe3O4 nanoparticles. HepG2 liver cancer cells were incubated with PNIPAM/SiO2/Fe3O4 nanoparticles loaded with vitamin D3 for 5 days, and cell viability significantly decreased, as observed by 3-(4,5-cimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyl tetrazolium bromide (MTT) and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) assays, which was further confirmed by transmission electron microscopy (TEM)images. In conclusion, the current study demonstrated that PNIPAM/SiO2/Fe3O4 nanoparticles can be used as potential drug delivery systems for controlled release.

On the Design of the Latch Mechanism for Wafer Containers in a SMIF Environment

        Jyh-Jone Lee,Dar-Zen Chen,Wei-Ming Pai,Tzong-Ming Wu 대한기계학회 2006 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.20 No.12

This paper presents the design of a latch mechanism for wafer containers in a standard mechanical interface environment. For an integrated circuits fabrication factory, the standard mechanical interfaced wafer container is an effective tool to prevent wafers from particle contamination during wafer storage, transporting or transferring. The latch mechanism inside the container door is used to latch and further seal the wafer container for safety and air quality. Kinematic characteristics of the mechanism are established by analyzing the required functions of the mechanisms. Based on these characteristics, a methodology for enumerating feasible latch mechanisms is developed. New mechanisms with one degree-of-freedom and up to five links are generated. An optimum design is also identified with respect to the criteria pertinent to the application. The computer-aided simulation is also built to verify the design.

Hericium erinaceus Mycelium and Its Isolated Compound, Erinacine A, Ameliorate High-Fat High-Sucrose Diet-Induced Metabolic Dysfunction and Spatial Learning Deficits in Aging Mice

        Yun-Chieh Tsai,Yu-Chen Lin,Chun-Chih Huang,Oliver B. Villaflores,Tzong-Yuan Wu,Shih-Ming Huang,Ting-Yu Chin 한국식품영양과학회 2019 Journal of medicinal food Vol.22 No.5

Aging and lifestyle factors, including high-sugar and high-fat diets, promote a systemic metabolic imbalance that promotes neurodegeneration. Hericium erinaceus has long been used in traditional Chinese medicine. Recently, its functional activities, such as antimetabolic dysfunction, antineuroinflammatory activities, and stimulation of nerve growth factor (NGF) synthesis, have been revealed. This study demonstrated that Hericium erinaceus mycelium (HEM) and an isolated diterpenoid derivative, erinacine A (EA), may reverse spatial learning disabilities in aging mice (15 months old) fed with a high-fat and high-sucrose diet (HFSD). Aging mice were randomly assigned to one of four treatment groups: (1) a chow diet (control), (2) an HFSD, and an HFSD supplemented with either (3) HEM or (4) EA for 18 weeks. The Morris water maze (MWM) and Y-maze were used for behavioral assessments. Both HEM- and EA-treated mice had shorter mean daily escape latencies than HFSD-treated mice in the MWM. In addition, HEM-treated mice had a slightly increased exploratory time and frequency in the novel arm in the Y-maze. Quantitative PCR revealed that both HEM- and EA-treated mice exhibited reduced messenger RNA (mRNA) expression of tumor necrosis factor-α, interleukin-1β, and HEM-treated mice exhibited increased mRNA expression of NGF and NeuN in the hippocampus. Moreover, HEM and EA also decreased body weight, abdominal fat, plasma glucose, serum and liver total cholesterol, and liver triacylglycerol. Thus, HEM may be a potential health-promoting supplement for minimizing the progression of aging and obesity-induced neurodegeneration by reducing metabolic abnormalities and neuroinflammatory cytokines and increasing neurogenesis factors.
