The origins and evolution of cement hydration models

Tiantian Xie,Joseph J. Biernacki 사단법인 한국계산역학회 2011 Computers and Concrete, An International Journal Vol.8 No.6

Our ability to predict hydration behavior is becoming increasingly relevant to the concrete community as modelers begin to link material performance to the dynamics of material properties and chemistry. At early ages, the properties of concrete are changing rapidly due to chemical transformations that affect mechanical, thermal and transport responses of the composite. At later ages, the resulting, nano-, micro-, meso- and macroscopic structure generated by hydration will control the life-cycle performance of the material in the field. Ultimately, creep, shrinkage, chemical and physical durability, and all manner of mechanical response are linked to hydration. As a way to enable the modeling community to better understand hydration, a review of hydration models is presented offering insights into their mathematical origins and relationships one-to-the-other. The quest for a universal model begins in the 1920’s and continues to the present, and is marked by a number of critical milestones. Unfortunately, the origins and physical interpretation of many of the most commonly used models have been lost in their overuse and the trail of citations that vaguely lead to the original manuscripts. To help restore some organization, models were sorted into four categories based primarily on their mathematical and theoretical basis: (1) mass continuity-based, (2) nucleation-based, (3) particle ensembles, and (4) complex multiphysical and simulation environments. This review provides a concise catalogue of models and in most cases enough detail to derive their mathematical form. Furthermore, classes of models are unified by linking them to their theoretical origins, thereby making their derivations and physical interpretations more transparent. Models are also used to fit experimental data so that their characteristics and ability to predict hydration calorimetry curves can be compared. A sort of evolutionary tree showing the progression of models is given along with some insights into the nature of future work yet needed to develop the next generation of cement hydration models.

Harmonic resonance analysis and stability improvement for grid-connected inverters

Xie, Bao,Zhou, Lin,Liu, Tiantian,Mao, Mingxuan The Korean Institute of Power Electronics 2020 JOURNAL OF POWER ELECTRONICS Vol.20 No.1

The traditional dual-control-loop strategy is widely used in grid-connected inverters. However, due to uncertain grid conditions, a resonance phenomenon may arise in systems and grid current can be badly distorted. In addition, the systems themselves may be unstable. In this paper, an equivalent impedance model of a grid-connected inverter is established. Based on this, two concepts of circuit resonance and harmonic resonance are proposed. By using the Nyquist stability criterion, it is revealed that harmonic resonance is induced when system stability is decreased, and the harmonic amplification in the system is enhanced. Due to the fact that the dual-control-loop strategy has poor robustness against grid impedance variations, a linear quadratic regulator (LQR) based on full-state feedback is proposed in this paper. The design procedure for selecting the full-state feedback gain is presented. Finally, both simulation and experimental results are presented to verify the effectiveness of the proposed LQR controller.

MiR-1224-5p modulates osteogenesis by coordinating osteoblast/osteoclast differentiation via the Rap1 signaling target ADCY2

        Hu Liangcong,Xie Xudong,Xue Hang,Wang Tiantian,Panayi Adriana C.,Lin Ze,Xiong Yuan,Cao Faqi,Yan Chengcheng,Chen Lang,Cheng Peng,Zha Kangkang,Sun Yun,Liu Guodong,Yu Chenyan,Hu Yiqiang,Tao Ranyang,Zhou 생화학분자생물학회 2022 Experimental and molecular medicine Vol.54 No.-

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) broadly regulate normal biological functions of bone and the progression of fracture healing and osteoporosis. Recently, it has been reported that miR-1224-5p in fracture plasma is a potential therapy for osteogenesis. To investigate the roles of miR-1224-5p and the Rap1 signaling pathway in fracture healing and osteoporosis development and progression, we used BMMs, BMSCs, and skull osteoblast precursor cells for in vitro osteogenesis and osteoclastogenesis studies. Osteoblastogenesis and osteoclastogenesis were detected by ALP, ARS, and TRAP staining and bone slice resorption pit assays. The miR-1224-5p target gene was assessed by siRNA-mediated target gene knockdown and luciferase reporter assays. To explore the Rap1 pathway, we performed high-throughput sequencing, western blotting, RT-PCR, chromatin immunoprecipitation assays and immunohistochemical staining. In vivo, bone healing was judged by the cortical femoral defect, cranial bone defect and femoral fracture models. Progression of osteoporosis was evaluated by an ovariectomy model and an aged osteoporosis model. We discovered that the expression of miR-1224-5p was positively correlated with fracture healing progression. Moreover, in vitro, overexpression of miR-1224-5p slowed Rankl-induced osteoclast differentiation and promoted osteoblast differentiation via the Rap1-signaling pathway by targeting ADCY2. In addition, in vivo overexpression of miR-1224-5p significantly promoted fracture healing and ameliorated the progression of osteoporosis caused by estrogen deficiency or aging. Furthermore, knockdown of miRNA-1224-5p inhibited bone regeneration in mice and accelerated the progression of osteoporosis in elderly mice. Taken together, these results identify miR-1224-5p as a key bone osteogenic regulator, which may be a potential therapeutic target for osteoporosis and fracture nonunion.

Pyroelectric properties in three phases coexistence Pb[(Mn0.33Nb0.67)0.5(Mn0.33Sb0.67)0.5]0.08(ZrxTi1-x)0.92O3 lead ceramics

        Guangzu Zhang,Shenglin Jiang,Yangyang Zhang,Tiantian Xie 한국물리학회 2009 Current Applied Physics Vol.9 No.6

The bulk dense Pb[(Mn0.33Nb0.67)0.5(Mn0.33Sb0.67)0.5]0.08(ZrxTi1-x)0.92O3 pyroelectric ceramics have been successfully prepared by the conventional solid method. The effect of three phases coexistence in the ceramics is studied. When x = 0.95 and 0.85 in the ceramics, the maximum pyroelectric coefficient peaks appear at 23 ℃ and 45 ℃, and the maximum values are 26.5 × 10-4 C/㎡ ℃ and 25.5 × 10-4 C/㎡ ℃, respectively. The maximum pyroelectric coefficient appears large while the peaks widths are small. When the two kinds of ceramic powders mixed with the mol ratio of 2:1, the pyroelectric coefficient of the ceramics is above 10.0 × 10-4 C/㎡ ℃ in a broad temperature range from 20 ℃ to 55 ℃. The possible physical mechanism of the temperature broadened phenomenon is briefly discussed. Platycladus orientalis PoKub3 is Involved in Abiotic Stress Responses in Transgenic Arabidopsis

        Xiamei Yao,Jin Zhang,Jing Ji,Jianyun Yue,Tiantian Xie,Nan Deng,Jianfeng Liu,Shengqing Shi,Zeping Jiang,Ermei Chang 한국식물학회 2017 Journal of Plant Biology Vol.60 No.4

Ku70-binding proteins associate with Ku70 and their expression levels can affect DSB repair efficiency via the DNA-PK-dependent repair pathway. However, how Ku70-binding proteins in plants exert a regulatory function under abiotic stress is poorly understood. Here, we cloned and characterized a PoKub3 gene from 500-year-old Platycladus orientalis. With increasing age, PoKub3 expression in P. orientalis increased gradually. The PoKub3 expression levels in leaves were upregulated under salt, heat, UV-C and abscisic acid treatments according to qRT-PCR. Moreover, PoKub3 overexpression in Arabidopsis thaliana improved tolerance to salt and drought stress compared with wild-type (WT) and vector control (VC) plants. High RAB18 and DREB2A expression and low JAZ1 and ABI2 expression provided strong evidence that salt tolerance was enhanced in the overexpression plants. Similarly, high RAB18 and DREB2A expression, accompanied by low JAZ1 and LOX1 expression and high DREB1A, CPK10, GSTF6 and APX1 expression, suggested the drought tolerance mechanism was associated with the abscisic acid pathway. In addition, lower malondialdehyde content, electrolyte leakage and stomatal conductance, and higher soluble sugar and relative water contents in PoKub3 overexpression lines than in WT and VC plants demonstrated its role in salt and drought tolerance. Together, these findings show that PoKub3 positively regulates salt and drought tolerance by regulating stress-related genes.
