        In this study, the relationship between substance use and high-novelty seeking was tested using Cloninger et al's 240-items Temperament and Character Inventory(TCI) in 34 substance users(32 methamphetamine and 2 cocaine dependence disorders), 80 normal controls and 48 schizophrenics Demographic characteristics and substance use-related past history were taken by semi-structured interview. Subjects were aged 18-45 and general psychopathology was screened by Symptom Checklist 90 revised. The results were as follows. 1) Among temperament subdivisions in the TCI, novelty seeking(NS) was significantly higher in the substance users(22.1±4.9) than the normal controls(18.0±5.0) and the schizophrenics(15.6±3.3). There were no significant differences in other temperament subdivisions such as harm avoidance, reward dependence and persistence, neither character subdivisions such as self-directiveness, cooperativeness and self- transcendence. 2) A significant inverse correlation was found between NS and age both in the substance users(r=0.274) and the normal controls(r=0.468). This study suggested that the biogenetic temperament characteristics in substance use disorder were related with their high novelty seeking, not low harm avoidance.

        Phage Ф FSV가 Lactobacillus casei의 증식에 미치는 영향

        Phage Φ FSV가 유산종균의 배양에 미치는 영향을 조사하기 위하여 prophage Φ FSV를 보유한 L. casei YIT 9018 균주나 prophage cured strain인 L. casei HYM 1213 균주에 phage Φ FSV(Lac S21)나 wild type phage Φ J-1(Lac J-1)을 임의의 농도로 각각 감염시켜 이들 균주의 증식을 비교하였다. Lac S21 phage를 L. casei YIT 9018 균주에 감염시켰을 경우, 초기 감염농도가 6.0×10 exp(6) pfu/㎖ 미만인 시료에서는 균주의 성장 및 유산생성능이 정상적이었으며, 오히려 phage수는 감소하였다. 그러나 L. casei HYM 1213균주는 Lac S21 phage에도 민감하게 반응하여, 감염된 균주는 감염시킨 농도에 상관없이 모두 2일균에서 phage가 10^9∼10^10 pfu/㎖로 급격히 증가하였으며, 계속 배양함에도 phage는 감소되지 않고 6일균에서 10^7∼10^9 pfu/㎖로 유지되었고, 이로 인하여 유산균은 정상 발효를 못하였다. 따라서 phage Φ FSV는 모균주인 L. casei YIT 9018 균주에는 어떠한 영향도 미치지 못하고, 오히려 prophage cured strains에는 민감하게 작용하여 비정상 발효를 유도함을 알 수 있었다. 또한, Lac J-1 phage는 prophage Φ FSW를 보유한 L. casei YIT 9018 균주와 prophage cured strain인 L. casei HYM 1213 균주에 모두 민감하게 감염되어 phage의 농도가 급증하고, 이로 인해 균주의 이상발효를 야기시켰다. In order to study effect of the phage Φ FSV on the growth of lactic acid bacteria, Lactobacillus casei YIT 9018 (wild type strain with prophage) or L. casei HYM 1213 (prophage cured strain) was infected with various concentrations of phage Φ FSV (called Lac S21) or wild type virulent phage (called Lac J-1). When L. casei YIT 9018 was infected with Lac S21 under the concentration of 6.0×10 exp(6) pfu/㎖, the growth and lactic acid production of the strain were normal and the number of phages decreased. But L. casei HYM 1213 was susceptible to Lac S21. Regardless of the concentration of the phage infection, the number of phages increased rapidly into 10^9 to 10^10 pfu/㎖ at 2 day cultures and was maintained 10^7 to 10^9 pfu/㎖ phages until 6 day cultures. The lactic acid production of L_n casei HYM 1213 infected with Lac S21 was abnormal. Therefore, phage Φ FSV had an evil effect on growth of L. casei HYM 1213, but not L. casei YIT 9018. On the other hand Lac J-1 caused abnormal fermentation to either L. casei YIT 9018 or L. casei HYM 1213.

        Medical informations are distributed and composed of various forms. In order to retrieve the medical informations including crucial data, a logical transparent view is required. The logical transparent view can be builded on common data model. So a complete and coincident information model can be provided based on the common data model. In this study, an effective method to integrate distributed, autonomous and heterogeneous database is investigated in medical environment.

        In this study, techniques for integrating database system and WWW are studied. And brain-bank system is constructed using 'extended' JavaScript method among the techniques. The 'extended' JavaScript method resolves the difficulty of CGI method and overcomes complexity of Java. Finally the brain-bank system is implemented by Borland's Intrabuilder.

        항암제와 Lactobacillus casei HY2782의 병용투여에 의한 항암효과의 증강

        S-180 복수암을 유발시킨 생쥐에 대한 BCG, OK-432와 LC2782의 항암효과 비교실험 결과 LC2782를 투여한 생쥐의 평균 생존율은 192%(p<0.001)였으며, OK-432 와 BCG를 투여한 생쥐의 평균 생존율은 각각 141%(p<0.01), 112%였다. 3LL 고형암을 유발시킨 생쥐에 대한 BCG , OK-432와 LC2782의 항암효과 비교실험 결과, LC2782를 투여한 생쥐의 암 억제율은 62%(p<0.05)였으며, OK-432 와 BCG를 투여한 실험군의 암억제율은 90%(p<0.05)와 76.2%(p<0.05)로서 OK-432가 가장 높은 암억제 효과를 나타냈다. 또한 S-180 복수암을 유발시킨 5-Fu와 CP를 단독 투여한 경우의 평균 생존율은 각각 115%와 99%였으나, 5-Fu와 CP를 LC2782 와 병용 투여한 경우의 평균 생존율은 각각 226%(p<0.001)1와 244%(p<0.00)1를 나타내어 단독 투여시보다 2배 이상 생존율이 증가하였다. 3LL 고형암을 유발시킨 생쥐에 5-Fu 와 CP를 LC2782와 병용 투여한 경우의 암억제율은 99.3%(p<0.05)와 73%(p<0.025)였다. Augmentation of antitumor activity of antitumor drugs in combination with Lactobacillus casei Hy2782 (LC2782) was studied against Sarcoma-180 (S-180) and Lewis lung carcinoma (3LL). Antitumor drugs used in this study were 5-fluorouracil (5-Fu) and cyclophosphamide (CP). The prolongation effect of LC2782 on the life span of mouse intraperitoneally implanted with S-180 was stronger than that of OK-432 and BCG, while the inhibitory effect of OK-432 and BCG on the growth of 3LL solid tumor was a little stronger than that of LC2782. Average survival rates of mice administrated LC2782, OK-432 and BCG were 192%, 141%, and 112%, respectively, when that of the control was 100%. Intralesional administration of 5-Fu, CP, 5-Fu+LC2782 and CP+LC2782 resulted in 93%, 69%, 99% and 73% inhibition rates against 3LL solid tumor proliferation. The combination therapy of 5-Fu or Cp with LC2782 significantly prolonged the life span of S-180-inoculated ICR mice. Average survival rates of mice administrated 5-Fu and CP alone were 115% and 99%. Furthermore, survival rates of mice administrated 5-Fu and CP in combination with LC2782 were 226% and 244%, respectively.

      • Insect diversity in Korea

        The Ministry of Environment in Korea published 'The Compilation of National List of Indigenous Insect Species of the Korean Peninsula' in 1996 including 11,853 species. The National Institute of Biological Resources (NIBR) originally compiled the national species list of insects to establish a national inventory of endemic biological assets with the joined efforts from all distinguished Korean taxonomists since 2008. For the convenience of scores of professional taxonomic groups participating in the project concurrently, the NIBR has developed the NIBR inventory description method and inventory system from 2008 to 2016. For nine years in this study, the NIBR has established the national insect inventory of 16,558 species including Collembola. The insect fauna of the Korean Peninsula comprises 565 families from 30 orders. The largest orders are Coleoptera (110 families, 4,318 species), Lepidoptera (67 families, 3,733 species), Hymenoptera (61 families, 3,151 species), Hemiptera (88 families, 2,013 species) and Diptera (79 families, 1,944 species). The fractions of the main insect orders in the fauna of the Korean peninsula correspond to those in the Holarctic temperate zone. And totally 13 volumes of national list of insect species in Korea were published.

      • The first records on Cinara cuneomaculata (Del Guercio), C. largirostris Zhang G. & W. Zhang, C. smaragdina (Pashtshenko) and C. piceae (Hemiptera: Aphididae) in Korea

        The genus of Cinara (Aphididae: Lachninae) live on the roots, trunk, branches, twigs, shoots or foliage of Coniferae and can be easily distinguished in having the very big body, apterae up to 5-6 ㎜ in length and short antennae which are shorter than half the body length. Most of species are monoecious without host alternation and attended by ants. Based on body appearance and COI gene sequence, we report Cinara cuneomaculata (Del Guercio) on Larix kaempferi, C. largirostris Zhang G. & W. Zhang on Pinus thunbergii and P. dnesiflora, C. smaragdina (Pashtshenko) on Abies holophylla and C. piceae on Juniperus rigida, for the first time in Korea.

        아닐린 분해 세균인 Stenotrophomonas maltophilia의 분리 및 특성

        아닐린을 유일한 탄소원 및 에너지원으로 이용하여 중식이 가능한 네 개의 균주를 강에서 채집한 물시료들로부터 분리하였다. 이들의 생리 및 생화학적 특성과 16S rRNA gene sequence를 통해 동정한 결과, 두 개의 균주는 D. acidovorans로 그리고, 나머지 두 개의 균주는 S. maltophilia로 동정되었다. 분리한 네 개의 균주는 모두 6,000 ㎍/ml까지 처리된 mineral salt 배지에서 아닐린을 완전히 분해하며 생육이 가능하였다. S. maltophilia에 의한 유일 탄소원으로서의 아닐린의 이용은 아직 보고된 바가 없기 때문에 S. maltophilia A-2와 51-4 두 균주에 의한 아닐린 분해 특성을 조사하게 되었다. 유일한 탄소원으로 아닐린을 300 ㎍/ml 수준으로 첨가한 mineral salt 배지에서 두 균주 모두 아닐린을 24시간 이내에 완전히 분해하였다. 또한, 아닐린 분해 및 균 생육에 대한 최적의 pH 및 온도는 각각 7.0과 35℃였고, 하천, 지하수 및 폐수정화조에서 채취한 물 시료에서도 S. maltophilia 51-4 균주는 아닐린을 효과적으로 제거하였다. S. maltophilia 균주들에 의한 아닐린의 분해는 처음으로 보고하는 바이다. Four bacteria capable of using aniline as a sole source of carbon and energy were isolated from river waters. Among them, two strains were identified as Stenotrophomonas maltophilia based on their physiological and biochemical characteristics and 16S rRNA gene sequence and the others as Delftia acidovorans. The four strains were able to grow on the mineral salt media containing aniline at concentrations up to 6,000 ㎍/ml. Since aniline degradation by S. maltophilia has not been reported so far, the two strains A-2 and 51-4 were selected for further studies. They completely utilized aniline in a mineral salt medium containing 300 ㎍/ml of aniline as a sole carbon and energy source within 24 hours. Optimum pH and temperature for aniline degradation and cell growth of both strains were 7.0 and 35℃, respectively. In addition, they effectively degraded aniline in waste, underground and river waters containing 300 ㎍/ml of aniline. This is the first report of aniline degradation by S. maltophilia strains.

        A Perirenal Abscess Recurring with Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus and Mycobacterium Tuberculosis Co-Infection after Treatment of Escherichia Coli Infection: A Case Report

        Renal and perirenal abscesses are disease entities caused by infections in or around the kidneys. As imaging modalities have improved in quality and convenience, diagnosing these diseases has become easier. Some cases are refractory to conventional treatment and require surgical correction, although most patients can be cured by antibiotic treatment and percutaneous drainage. We here report the case of a patient with a perirenal abscess that recurred twice after appropriate antibiotic treatment and percutaneous drainage. Although Gram-negative bacilli are the most common pathogenic cause of these diseases, we isolated methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus and Mycobacterium tuberculosis in our patient. Thus, poor responses to appropriate treatment in patients with a perirenal abscess can result not only from antimicrobial resistance or a co-infection but also from the 2 conditions existing concomitantly.
