Family Firms’ Changing Strategic Tendency on Restructuring: A Mixed-gamble Approach

이 연구는 기업 재무 상황에 따라서 구조조정의 성향이 변하는 가족기업을 실증적으로 분석한다. 우선, 연구 결과는 보편적인 인식대로 가족기업이 비가족기업에 비해 일반적으로 기업 구조조정에 있어서 소극적이라는 점을 밝힌다. 하지만 이 연구는 기업이 경영난에 직면했을 경우 가족기업이 오히려 비가족기업보다 구조조정에 있어서 더 적극적임을 보여준다. 즉, 이 연구는 가족기업이 소위 ‘Socioemotional wealth’ (SEW)라는 비재무적 가치를 보존하기 위해 구조조정에 언제나 회의적이라기 보단 장기적 SEW 이득을 위해 단기적 SEW 손실이 필요할 경우에는 오히려 비가족기업보다 더 적극적으로 구조조정 활동을 한다는 점을 보여준다. 구조조정이 SEW를 훼손하기 보단 오히려 SEW를 강화하는 상황을 구체적으로 규명함으로써, 이 연구는 구조조정에 있어서 가족기업의 전략적 의사결정의 복잡한 경향을 밝힌다. This study empirically investigates family firms changing strategic tendency on restructuring depending on corporate circumstances. The findings demonstrate that family firms are generally less likely than non-family firms to conduct corporate restructuring. However, their engagement in restructuring becomes even greater than non-family firms as financial performance deteriorates. In other words, the results suggest that rather than always being more reluctant to engage in restructuring to preserve existing socioemotional wealth (SEW), family firms can conduct more restructuring than non-family firms, especially when they pursue long-term SEW gains at the expense of short-term SEW loss. By focusing on the specific condition under which restructuring becomes an act of strengthening SEW, this study further refines the complex nature of family firms’ strategic decisions on restructuring.

최근 스마트폰을 중심으로 한 모바일 기기의 보급 및 활용이 급격하게 증가하고 있다. 이러한 환경 변환에 맞춰 많은 서비스들이 모바일 기기를 위한 형태, 즉 앱으로 개발되고 있다. 이 논문에서는 이러한 패러다임의 이동을 고려하여, 현재의 통계지리정보서비스에 대하여 고찰하고 이를 통해 모바일 기기를 위한 적합한 앱 형태 및 고려사항에 대하여 기술한다. 통계정보는 다양한 형태로 제공될 수 있으며, 특히 지리정보시스템과의 연계를 통한 서비스 활용성과 이해력을 돕기 위한 통계지리정보서비스에 한 연구가 진행되어 왔다. 그러나 변화하는 패러다임을 고려한 앱 개발에 관한 연구는 미비한 실정이다. 따라서 이 논문에서는 사용자의 통계정보의 활용성 향상시킬 수 있는 통계지리정보 앱 개발 시 고려사항 및 기능에 대하여 기술한다. 이 논문의 결과는 스마트폰과 같은 모바일 기기를 위한 앱 개발을 위한 기초 자료로 활용될 수 있다.

Although reports vary, the prevalence of true resistant hypertension and apparent treatment-resistant hypertension (aTRH) has been reported to be 10.3% and 14.7%, respectively. As there is a rapid increase in the prevalence of obesity, chronic kidney disease, and diabetes mellitus, factors that are associated with resistant hypertension, the prevalence of resistant hypertension is expected to rise as well. Frequently, patients with aTRH have pseudoresistant hypertension [aTRH due to white-coat uncontrolled hypertension (WUCH), drug underdosing, poor adherence, and inaccurate office blood pressure (BP) measurements]. As the prevalence of WUCH is high among patients with aTRH, the use of out-of-office BP measurements, both ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM) and home blood pressure monitoring (HBPM), is essential to exclude WUCH. Non-adherence is especially problematic, and methods to assess adherence remain limited and often not clinically feasible. Therefore, the use of HBPM and higher utilization of singlepill fixed-dose combination treatments should be emphasized to improve drug adherence. In addition, primary aldosteronism and symptomatic obstructive sleep apnea are quite common in patients with hypertension and more so in patients with resistant hypertension. Screening for these diseases is essential, as the treatment of these secondary causes may help control BP in patients who are otherwise difficult to treat. Finally, a proper drug regimen combined with lifestyle modifications is essential to control BP in these patients.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>The Samgwang deposit, previously classified as an orogenic gold deposit, consists of several structurally controlled auriferous quartz veins hosted by metasedimentary rocks of the Precambrian Gyeonggi massif, South Korea. The gold at Samgwang occurs as electrum commonly associated with arsenopyrite. Laser ablation-inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS), coupled with ore microscopy, was conducted on Au and trace elements distributed in arsenopyrite grains contained in quartz vein and wall rock samples. Resulting profiles for Au, Co, Ni, and Sb were relatively flat and showed little variability, indicating that the elements were relatively homogeneously distributed and exchanged via substitution in arsenopyrite, while variability and noisy depth profiles inferred that Pb was present as tiny inclusions or discrete particles. Furthermore, measured gold concentrations were typically higher in arsenopyrite grains from laminated quartz veins (avg. 2.07 ppm) than in grains from massive quartz veins (avg. 0.26 ppm) and wall rock samples (avg. 0.33 ppm). In the case of wall rock and massive quartz vein samples, arsenopyrite grains of euhedral shape illustrate an element distribution pattern whereby Au concentrations tend to decrease towards the rims of the analyzed grains. In contrast, the rims of arsenopyrite grains in laminated quartz vein samples recorded much higher Au concentrations of up to 20.1 ppm, with increasing Pb, Bi, and Ag, particularly within domains of fractured or recrystallized arsenopyrite grains. The newly acquired LA-ICP-MS data, along with textural evidence, may be interpreted in terms of the release and remobilization of invisible gold that was originally locked up in the arsenopyrite. This release is linked to late deformation and hydrothermal event during which the remobilized invisible gold was redeposited as electrum. In addition, there is evidence for the introduction of additional gold and other precious and base metals by the late-stage hydrothermal fluids. Based on the above and in contrast to previous genetic models, we propose a more complex metallogenic concept for Samgwang in which the economically important gold enrichment process was genetically related to intrusive activity during the waning stages of Jurassic to Early Cretaceous Daebo orogenesis.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Gold content of euhedral arsenopyrite decreases towards the crystal margin. </LI> <LI> Invisible gold remobilized to form electrum observed in veinlets cutting or as fracture-fill in arsenopyrite. </LI> <LI> Gold enrichment process can be linked to formation of late-orogenic intrusion-related gold deposits. </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>
Human Vesicular Glutamate Transporters Functionally Complement EAT-4 in C. elegans

The vesicular glutamate transporter (VGLUT) transports glutamate into pre-synaptic vesicles. Three isoforms of VGLUT have been identified in humans, but their functional differences remain largely unknown. EAT-4 is the only homologue of human VGLUT in C. elegans. Here we report that mutants of eat-4 exhibit hyperforaging behavior and that each of the isoforms of human VGLUT functionally rescues the defects in eat-4 worms.
소형디젤엔진에서 SOF가 EGR Cooler Fouling에 미치는 영향 평가

Cooled HPL EGR system (EGR), which already has been widely used in passenger car engines, is a effective strategy to control NOx emission. However, high concentration of particulate matter in exhaust gas causes significant soot deposition inside wall of the EGR cooler, reducing heat transfer performance and NOx reduction rate. And the deposition tends to be more severe in the presence of “heavy wet PM”, which is more common at low NOx engine calibrations. An experimental investigation was conducted to study the effects of soluble organic fraction(SOF) on EGR cooler deposit characteristics. As a model SOF, n-dodecane was added to dry soot. The results showed that effectiveness of the EGR cooler decreased and the accumulated PM particle mass per unit area increased by adding n-dodecane, compared to the results of dry soot condition. Analysis of the deposit mass showed that the effects of SOF is greater at lower coolant temperature of 40°C than that of at 80℃. The results of coolant temperature at 40℃ was that the accumulated PM particle mass per unit area increased up to 50% when n-dodecane was injected with the rate of 0.4㎖/hour. This result was induced by vapor condensation in the low coolant temperature conditions.

<P>Water management in the cathode is one of the most significant issues in proton exchange membrane fuel cells, especially for long-term stability and dynamic operation in fuel cell vehicles. Therefore, it is critical to design a water-managed/well-fueled cathode layer to overcome significant mass transfer limitations and the corrosion of the carbon support in fuel cells. In this work, we report a simple modification method of the Pt/C cathode using highly graphitized carbon nanofibers for improved water management. This study may open up new possibilities for water management and will be helpful for developing high performing proton exchange membrane fuel cell.</P>
