Enhancing adult neurogenesis in the brain has been suggested as a potential therapeutic strategy for AD. We developed a screening platform, ATRIVIEW®, for molecules that activate neuronal differentiation of adult mouse NSCs. The most potent hit from an FDA-approved drug library was SNR1611 (trametinib), a selective MEK1/2 inhibitor. We found that trametinib increases the levels of P15INK4b and Neurog2, suggesting a mechanism by which MEK1/2 inhibition induces neuronal differentiation. Oral administration of trametinib increased adult neurogenesis in the dentate gyrus and subventricular zone of the 5XFAD AD mouse model. Surprisingly, we also found that trametinib enhanced adult neurogenesis in the cortex. Consequently, trametinib rescued AD pathologies such as neuronal loss and cognitive impairment in 5XFAD mice. Finally, trametinib induced neurogenic differentiation of NSCs derived from AD patient iPSCs, which suggests its potential therapeutic application. Altogether, we suggest that restoration of endogenous adult neurogenesis by trametinib may be a promising therapeutic approach to AD.

High energy nickel manganese cobalt oxide materials (HENMC) are one of the most viable cathode materialsfor a high energy density lithium ion battery (LIB), but they contain expensive and toxic cobalt (Co). We synthesizedCo-free high energy nickel manganese oxide cathode materials (HENM) via a solid state reaction method and a coprecipitationmethod. Their structural and electrochemical properties were comparatively investigated using X-ray diffractionspectroscopy (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), inductively coupled plasma (ICP), electron probemicro-analysis (EPMA), particle size analysis (PSA) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The co-precipitatedHENM and the solid state fabricated HENM showed high capacities of 250 mAhg−1 and 240 mAhg−1, respectively. It suggests that the solid state fabricated method of HENM would be a good candidate for practical applicationas well as the co-precipitated one.
Supervised segmentation with domain adaptation for small sampled orbital CT images

Deep neural networks have been widely used for medical image analysis. However, the lack of access to a large-scale annotated dataset poses a great challenge, especially in the case of rare diseases or new domains for the research society. Transfer of pre-trained features from the relatively large dataset is a considerable solution. In this paper, we have explored supervised segmentation using domain adaptation for optic nerve and orbital tumour, when only small sampled CT images are given. Even the lung image database consortium image collection (LIDC-IDRI) is a cross-domain to orbital CT, but the proposed domain adaptation method improved the performance of attention U-Net for the segmentation in public optic nerve dataset and our clinical orbital tumour dataset by 3.7% and 13.7% in the Dice score, respectively. Chemiosmotic Control of Renin Secretion

본 실험에서는 토끼의 신피질 Slices를 이용하여 renin분비와 세포 대사과정 사이의 연관관계를 살펴 보았다. 2-deoxy-D-glucose로 해당과정을 억제한 경우에는 renin분비에 변화가 없는 반면, 6-aminonicotinamide를 사용하여 hexose monophoshate shunt를 억제했을 때는 renin분비가 촉진되었다. 그러나, 미토콘드리아에서 APT생성을 억제한다고 알려진 KCN과 carbonylcyanide-m-chlorophenylhydrazone(이하 CCCP)는 renin분비를 억제하였다. 세포배양액에서 Ca²+을 제거할 경우 KCN에 의한 renin분비억제 효과가 상실되는 것으로 보아 KCN은 세포내 Ca²+을 증가시키고 이에 다른 2차적인 현상으로 renin분비가 억제되는 것으로 생각된다. 반면, CCCP에 의한 억제효과는 세포외액에서 Ca²+을 제거하거나 혹은 calmodulin antagonist인 calmiddazolium을 첨가하여도 영향을 받지 않으므로, CCCP는 막내외의 H+-농도차를 없애므로써 renin분비를 억제하는 것으로 봉ㄴ다. 그러나 H+-ATPasedjr제제인 bafilomycin A1은 효과가 없었다. 따라서 막내외의 H+ 농도 차이와 renin분비사이의 관계를 H+/K+ exchange ionophore nigericin을 사용하여 살펴보았다. Renin분비가 nigericin에 의해 크게 촉진되는 것으로 보아 H+이나 다른 일가양이온의 농도차가 renin분비에 중요한 역할을 함을 알 수 있었다. 막 내외 H+ 농도차에 의해 세포내 산성 vesicle내에 축적될 것으로 생각되는 ammonium chloride, benzylamine, chloroquine, methylamine등의 약염기도 renin분비를 촉진하였다. 신피질 slices를 hypo-osmotic medium에 배양시킨 경우 renin분비가 가역적으로 촉진되었다. 이상의 결과는 ATP는 renin granular membrane에 있어서의 H+ 혹은 다른 이온의 농도차를 유발 또는 유지함으로써 renin분비에 간접적으로 영향을 미칠 가능성을 시사한다. 또한, 이러한 이온의 농도차는 osmotic swelling에 의한 분비와 연관되어 있을 것으로 생각된다.

<P>An underlap channel-embedded FET is proposed for electrical, label-free biosensor in both watery and dry environments, and current-voltage characteristics measured under each environment are compared. To investigate the effectiveness of the underlap device as a biosensor for both environments, antigen-antibody binding of an avian influenza (AI) is used. Antibody of AI binding on antigen-immobilized surface provides additional negative charge on underlap surface, and they give rise to channel potential increasing and result in drain current reduction. In this study, we have verified that the biosensor characteristics measured under dry environment is valid as much as they are valid for watery environment.</P>

<P>Sildenafil and its analogues, which are used as illegal additives in several dietary supplements, were isolated by liquid-liquid extraction and column chromatography and analyzed by fast-atom bombardment mass spectrometry (FAB-MS). Structures of sildenafil and its derivatives were elucidated by FAB-tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS) with exact mass measurement in the positive-ion mode. To find structurally diagnostic ions for the sildenafil analogues, authentic sildenafil was preferentially analyzed by high-energy collision-induced dissociation (CID)-MS/MS. The CID-MS/MS spectra of [M+H]<SUP>+</SUP> precursor ions resulted in the formation of numerous characteristic ions via a series of dissociative processes. The product ions formed by CID provided important information on the modification of the piperazine ring, the phenylsulfonyl group and the pyrazolopyrimidine moiety of sildenafil. By interpreting their MS/MS spectra, the chemical structures of sildenafil analogues isolated from dietary supplements could be elucidated and fragmentation patterns were proposed. To clearly identify the sidenafil derivatives in dietary supplements, some of the derivatives such as acetildenafil, homosildenafil and hydroxyhomosildenafil which are not commercially available were synthesized and compared with their MS/MS spectra. Electrochemical Synthesis of Dumbbell-like Au-Ni-Au Nanorods and Their Surface Plasmon Resonance

In this report, we demonstrate that the longitudinal localized surface plasmon resonance mode can be suppressed when the nanorods were in dumbbell shape. The seed nanorods were synthesized by electrochemical deposition of metals into the pores of anodic aluminum oxide templates. The dumbbell-like nanorods were grown from seed Au-Ni-Au nanorods by a rate-controlled seed-mediated growth strategy. The selective deposition of Au atoms onto Au blocks of Au-Ni-Au nanorods produced larger diameter of Au nanorods with bumpy surface resulting in dumbbell-like nanorods. The morphology of nanorods depended on the reduction rate of $AuCl_4^-$, slow rate producing smooth surface of Au nanorods, but high reduction rate producing bumpy surface morphology. Through systematic investigation into the UV-Vis-NIR spectroscopy, we found that the multiple localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) modes were available from single-component Au nanorods. And, their LSPR modes of Au NRs with bumpy surface, compared to the smooth seed Au NRs, were red-shifted, which was obviously attributed to the increased electron oscillation pathways. While the longitudinal LSPR modes of smoothly grown Au NRs were blue-shifted except for a dipole transverse LSPR mode, which can be interpreted by decreased aspect ratio. In addition, dumbbell-like nanorods showed an almost disappeared longitudinal LSPR mode. It reflects that the plasmonic properties can be engineered using complex nanorods structure.

Since eco products need to be developed to better satisfy environmental regulations and customers’ concerns with environmentally friendly products, efforts are needed to establish better eco product development methods and strategies. The present study surveyed methods and strategies of eco product development through literature review and organized them based on the ISO TR 14062 eco product development process. The selected 20 papers (6 methods; 12 strategies; 2 methods and strategies) can be applied to each stage of the TR 14062 eco product development process as follows: 14 papers related to planning stage, 3 papers related to conceptual design stage, and 6 papers related to detailed design stage. The eco product development methods and strategies surveyed in this study can be used to identify considerations at each stage of eco product development process and analyzing features of products effectively.
