Plasma oxalic acid and cardiovascular risk in end-stage renal disease patients: a prospective, observational cohort pilot study

( Natalia Stepanova ),( Victoria Driianska ),( Lesya Korol ),( Lyudmyla Snisar ),( Larysa Lebed ) 대한내과학회 2022 The Korean Journal of Internal Medicine Vol.37 No.1

Background/Aims: It was hypothesized that oxalate might be strongly involved in atherogenesis and the inflammatory pathway that could result in an increased risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) in end-stage renal disease (ESRD) patients. Therefore, this study aimed to address two primary research questions: to characterize the lipid profile and the pattern of pro-inflammatory cytokines according to plasma oxalic acid (POx) concentration in ESRD patients; to evaluate the potential role of elevated POx concentration in the development of CVD risk. Methods: A total of 73 participants were enrolled in this prospective, observational cohort pilot study. Among them, there were 50 ESRD patients and 23 healthy volunteers. The lipid profile and the pro-inflammatory cytokines were analyzed according to the distribution of POx concentration into tertiles. After the clinical examination, 29 hemodialysis patients and 21 peritoneal dialysis patients without prevalent CVD were observed for CVD events for 2 years. The Cox regression analysis and a set of different types of sensitivity analyses were used to determine whether elevated POx was associated with an increased risk of CVD. Results: An increasing trend in the atherogenic lipoprotein fractions and the pro-inflammatory markers as well as a linear decrease in high-density lipoprotein was significantly associated with elevated POx. POx concentration ≥ 62.9 μmol/L was significantly associated with CVD events independently of other examined CVD risk factors. Conclusions: This pilot study firstly demonstrated a potential contribution of POx to atherogenesis, inflammation and CVD risk in ESRD patients.

Vol.5 No.1

This article deals with the Japanese tattoo that is studied as a cultural reflection of the historical process in the country and also within the hystory of the criminal clans of Japan. The author explores the phenomenon of Yakuza tattoos, as well as he relationship between a tattoo and its wearer. Tattoo is, first of all, a part of culture, inextricably linked with a person by a long history. It, as a part of fine art, reflects the state of society at a certain period of time, is a source that allows you to touch the traditions of previous generations. At the moment, because of the yakuza, the people of Japan are wary of tattooed compatriots. For a very long time, tattoos have been taboo and were banned at the legislative level. This could not but affect the perception of irezumi. Within the country, this culture is experiencing a twofold attitude. In this article the author examines not only the history of the emergence and development of traditional Japanese tattooing, but also the attitude towards tattooing in modern society. There are many of the troubles happened because of differences in cultures or life styles. One of such troubles is about bathing in public bathes by people with tattoos. In Japan, people with tattoos cannot take public bathes in many cases, while they wear tattoos out of their cultural traditions in some areas or cultures. The conclusion is Japanese tattooing, at the moment, unfortunately, has a negative connotation; however, the tattooing tradition among Yakuza is unique example of the fusion of ancient culture of branding, exquisite art and modern Japanese mentality. This culture must be studied and supported in order to get closer to understanding the cultural values of the Japanese, to promote the recognition of tattoos as part of the cultural heritage of the Japanese society.

      • Neuropsychological Approach Used in Learning Japanese Language

        Vlada M,Stepanova 경북대학교 러시아-유라시아 연구소 2022 러시아유라시아연구 Vol.7 No.1

Neuropsychology is a scientific discipline that stands at the intersection of several sciences, such as psychology, biology and many others. This is a science that studies the work of the brain, which began its active development only in the 20th century. Thanks to neuropsychology, knowledge is available to us that helps us to know the power of our brain and our memory, as well as helping to improve them. In the modern world, our memory and thinking are faced with many problems and are gradually worn down. Neuropsychological discoveries and techniques help to “sharpen” this memory. In our article, we considered the possibility of learning Japanese using a neuropsychological approach to show methods for easier memorization of information, as well as improving one s own memory. Scientists have proven that simple tasks, reading aloud and other elementary exercises performed at regular intervals can improve our memory capacity by 20% after just a month of practice. New techniques can not only pump our brain, but also come closer to understanding how a native speaker “feels” his language. All language units are not taken from nowhere. Each has its own path of development, which brought it to the form that is used in the language now. Even a superficial study of this information can come close to understanding and mastering the language. And a comprehensive analysis, in turn, not only helps us to be more erudite in language and culture, but thanks to this it is better to remember the language, through a neuropsychological approach.

      • Delimitation of Jurisdiction of Commercial, Civil and Administrative Courts: IT Challenges

Baranenko, Dmytro,Stepanova, Tetiana,Pillai, Aneesh V.,Kostruba, Anatolii,Akimenko, Yuliia International Journal of Computer ScienceNetwork S 2022 International journal of computer science and netw Vol.22 No.7

In modern conditions of the development of public relations, there is a continuous development of technologies. This not only reflects the convenience of service users, and new technology but also contributes to the emergence of new disputes to protect the rights of stakeholders. Therefore, it is urgent to study the distinctions between the jurisdiction of commercial, civil and administrative courts in resolving IT disputes. The work aims to study the peculiarities of delimitation of the jurisdiction of commercial, civil, and administrative courts through the prism of IT measurement. The research methodology consists of such methods as a historical, comparative-legal, formal-logical, empirical, method of analogy, method of synthesis, method of analysis, and systematic method. Examining the specifics of delimiting the jurisdiction of commercial, civil, and administrative courts through the IT dimension, it was concluded that there is a problem in determining the jurisdiction of the court. In addition, the judicial practice on this issue is quite variable, which negatively affects the predictability of technology in resolving potential disputes. In this regard, the criterion models for distinguishing between commercial, administrative, and civil proceedings according to the legal classification of the parties, as well as the nature of the claim are identified. This separation will contribute to a more accurate application of legal norms and methods of application of administrative norms and reduce the number of cases of improper proceedings.

      • Potential Risks Associated with eSportsmen Activities: an Empirical Study

Bonkalo, Tatyana I.,Stepanova, Olga N.,Latushkina, Elena N.,Kozlyatnikov, Oleg A.,Kumancova, Elizaveta S. International Journal of Computer ScienceNetwork S 2022 International journal of computer science and netw Vol.22 No.8

The purpose of the study was to identify the level of development of gaming disorder among e-sportsmen as a potential risk of their activity. Three groups were formed for the study. The first group consisted of 102 e-sportsmen aged between 18 and 32; the second group consisted of boys of the same age who, according to preliminary questionnaires, played computer games fairly frequently - at least once a week (n = 102); the third group consisted of individuals of the same gender and age, but who did not share a passion for computer games (n = 102). The study was performed using semi-structured interview during which the respondents filled out the Computer gaming disorder questionnaire developed and tested by O.M. Vidova under our supervision. Our study showed that among 102 e-sportsmen, 82,3% did not have any computer gaming disorder, only some tendency thereto. While 17,6% of e-sportsmen were characterized by a pronounced gaming disorder. E-sportsmen who prefer strategies, less than all other e-sportsmen, tend to escape from reality and accept the game role, to express their emotions through the game, and in general have the lowest level of dependence on games. Additionally, strategic e-sportsmen are most likely to study the game thoroughly and to develop themselves with it. Many Starcraft e-sportsmen tend to explore the possibilities of the game in detail and, at the same time, protect themselves from escaping into virtual reality. The risk of computer gaming disorder among e-sportsmen is largely determined by their sports achievements, the type of sports activity (individual or team), and genre of the preferred computer game.

( Zobair Younossi ),( Maria Stepanova ),( Linda Henry ),( Kwanghyub Han ),( Sang Ahn ),( Youngsuk Lim ),( Wanloung Chuang ),( Jia Horng Kao ),( Nguyen Kinh ),( Ching Lung Lai ),( Man Fung Yuen ),( Hen 대한간학회 2018 춘·추계 학술대회 (KASL) Vol.2018 No.1

Aims: We aim to assess HRQL in east Asian (EA) HCV patients treated with different anti-HCV sofosbuvir (SOF)-based regimens. Methods: 1070 EA HCV subjects were enrolled in two phase 3 clinical trials [China: 55.6%, S. Korea: 20.7%, Taiwan: 16.1%, Vietnam: 4.7%, and Hong Kong: 2.9%]. Patients received IFN+SOF+RBV for 12 weeks (n=155, GT 1 and 6) or SOF+RBV for 12-24 weeks (n=531, GT 1, 2, 3 and 6) or IFN-free RBV-free LDV/SOF (n=384, GT1 only). The SVR-12 rates were 95.5%, 96.0%, and 99.2%, respectively (P=0.008). EA HCV patients completed Short Form-36 before, during, and after treatment and HRQL scores compared between regimens. Results: Baseline HRQL scores were similar between treatment groups. After 2 weeks of treatment, HRQL scores for the IFN+RBV- containing regimen became significantly lower as compared to the IFN-free regimens (average decline up to -11.2 points, P<0.0001). By the end of treatment, IFN-treated group experienced significant declines in most HRQL scores (up to -13.3 points, P<0.02 for 7/8 HRQL scales). Patients on SOF+RBV had milder HRQL impairments (up to -5.4 points, P<0.05 for 5/8 scales). However, patients receiving LDV/SOF had improvement in their HRQL scores (up to +4.3 points by the end of treatment, P<0.001 for 3/8 scales). Achieving SVR-12 with IFN+RBV+ SOF and SOF+RBV was associated with improvement in General Health (GH) and Vitality (VT) (up to +2.9 points, P<0.05), while SVR-12 with LDV/SOF was associated with improvement in Physical Functioning, GH, VT, Mental Health, and Role Emotional (up to +5.9 points, P<0.03). In multivariate analysis, receiving IFN was independently associated with HRQL impairment during treatment (β: -10.4 to -17.3 points, P<0.0001). Conclusions: Treatment of EA HCV patients with IFN or RBV containing regimens is associated with HRQL impairment, while treatment with LDV/SOF is associated with improvement of HRQL during treatment. SVR-12 was associated with greater improvements in HRQL.

      • Current Problems of Criminal Law Protection of Information Relations in the Border Sphere

Kushnir, Iryna,Kuryliuk, Yurii,Nikiforenko, Volodymyr,Stepanova, Yuliia,Kushnir, Yaroslav International Journal of Computer ScienceNetwork S 2021 International journal of computer science and netw Vol.21 No.11

The article considers some issues of criminal law protection of information relations. With the emergence of new types of threats to Ukraine's national security in the field of protection and defense of the state border, the issues of development and strengthening of information protection become especially important. Proper compliance with information legislation also depends on the established responsibility for its violation, which rests on certain provisions of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. It is stated that these norms are placed in different sections and do not have a proper systematization. The article singles out the subjects of information relations in the border area, which are subject to criminal law protection: persons who are not bound by stable relations with the SBGS (who cross the state border of Ukraine, etc.); persons who are members of the SBGS (servicemen and employees); SBGS as a public authority (official and secret information, information about the activities of the agency, its officials, etc.).

Protective effect of dietary oils containing omega-3 fatty acids against glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis

Amr Samir Elbahnasawy,Emiliya Ramzievna Valeeva,Eman Mustafa El-Sayed,Natalya Vladimirovna Stepanova 한국영양학회 2019 Journal of Nutrition and Health Vol.52 No.4

Purpose: Glucocorticoids (GCs) are implicated in secondary osteoporosis, and the resulting fractures cause significant morbidity. Polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) play a vital role in bone metabolism. However, few trials have studied the impact of omega-3 PUFA-containing oils against GC-induced osteoporosis. Therefore, the present study was undertaken to determine whether supplementation with omega-3 PUFA-containing dietary oils such as fish oil, flaxseed oil or soybean oil can impede the development of GC-induced osteoporosis. Methods: The fatty acids (FAs) content of oils was determined using gas chromatography. Male rats were subdivided into 5 groups (8 rats each): normal control (balanced diet), prednisolone control (10 mg/kg prednisolone daily), soybean oil (prednisolone 10 mg/kg + soybean oil 7% w/w), flaxseed oil (prednisolone 10 mg/kg + flaxseed oil 7% w/w), and fish oil (from cod liver; prednisolone 10 mg/kg + fish oil 7% w/w). Results: The study data exhibited a significant depletion in bone mineral density (BMD) and femur mass in the prednisolone control compared to the normal control, accompanied with a marked decrease in the levels of plasma calcium and 1,25-(OH)2-vitamin D3, and elevated levels of C-terminal telopeptide (CTX), tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) and malondialdehyde (MDA). Supplementation with fish oil, soybean oil or flaxseed oil helped to improve plasma calcium levels, and suppress oxidative stress and inflammatory markers. Additionally, bone resorption was suppressed as reflected by the decreased CTX levels. However, fish oil was more effective than the other two oils with a significant improvement in BMD and normal histological results compared to the normal control. Conclusion: This study demonstrated that supplementation with dietary oils containing omega-3 PUFAs such as fish oil, soybean oil or flaxseed oil can play a role in the prevention of bone loss and in the regulation of bone metabolism, especially fish oil which demonstrated a greater level of protection against GC-induced osteoporosis.

Exchange bias in FeNi/FeMn/Gd–Co trilayers: The role of the magnetic prehistory

        Svalov A.V.,Kudyukov E.V.,Lepalovskij V.N.,Gorkovenko A.N.,Stepanova E.A.,Larrañaga A.,Kurlyandskaya G.V.,Vaśkovskiy V.O. 한국물리학회 2021 Current Applied Physics Vol.23 No.-

FeNi/FeMn/GdxCo100-x multilayered films were prepared by magnetron sputtering. The Gd–Co layer had different temperature dependences of the spontaneous magnetization due to the different Gd content. The magnetic properties of the films were determined from hysteresis loops measured in the temperature range 5–473 K. In order to determine the existence of a long-range interaction and a mutual influence of two exchange bias systems through the formation of bulk continuous magnetic structure in the antiferromagnetic layer special cooling procedure with FeNi and Gd–Co magnetizations saturated in a direction parallel or antiparallel to each other was used. The observed difference in the exchange bias between the two cooling configurations was discussed.
