<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>A facile stacking technology must be developed for various types of polymer semiconductors through a continuous solution process for successful commercial applications of organic electronics. In this study, we report a strategic method of stacking different polymer semiconductors from the same processing solvent in a non-destructive manner using vapor-phase iodine. We utilize the concept of reversible doping mechanism of iodine; interstitial iodine ions in the polymer backbone significantly reduce the solubility of entire films and such an immobilized phase can be quickly recovered to the initial phase via a simple vacuum treatment. Thus, a polymer–polymer p-n planar heterojunction (PHJ) can be realized using the same solvent without compromising the inherent electrical/optical characteristics of the polymer semiconductor. Detailed photophysical and morphological analyses on the doping and dedoping of polymeric semiconductors with iodine are discussed. As a target application of such iodine-mediated non-destructive stacking technology, a thin-film near-infrared(NIR)-selective polymeric photodiode, which can fully reflect the genuine advantages of a well-defined PHJ, is demonstrated. Face Recognition based on Non-intrusive 3-D Face Modeling System

This paper proposes a nonintrusive three-dimensional (3-D) face data acquisition and face recognition system. Although a two-dimensional (2-D) face recognition system can achieve a reliable recognition rate, its performance can be degraded by illumination and pose variation. To eliminate these factors in 2-D face recognition, 3-D face recognition which uses 3-D face data has received much attention. To acquire accurate 3-D face data, we develop the nonintrusive 3-D face acquisition system consisting of a stereo vision system and an invisible 850 nm near-infrared line laser. By using 3-D face data, 2.5-D face recognition is performed to verify the recognition performance. The experiment results show the reconstructed 3-D face data consisting of about 30,000 3-D points and the recognition rate is 96%.

Objectives: The aim of this study is to identify temporal trends in urinary cotinine levels and exposure factors among Non-smokers in Korean adults. Methods: Biological samples and questionnaire data were collected from representative Korean adults recruited in the Korean National Environmental Health Survey from 2009 to 2017. Multiple regression analysis was performed to determine the factors affecting urinary cotinine concentrations of non-smokers. Results: The urinary cotinine levels of Korean non-smokers decreased in Cycle 2 (1.04 µg/L, 2012-2014) compared to Cycle 1 (1.93 µg/L, 2009-2011) but increased slightly in Cycle 3 (1.37 µg/L, 2015-2017). Among the diverse variables, the main factors of cotinine exposure were secondhand smoke exposure and the presence of smokers in the family. Conclusions: The results of this study identified temporal trends in cotinine exposure among non-smokers in the Korean adult population. These findings will be used to develop further assessment and environmental health policies on secondhand smoke exposure.

<P>In this work, we present results from the application of a new in situ technique that combines time-resolved synchrotron X-ray diffraction and mass spectroscopy. We exploit this approach to provide direct correlation between structural changes and the evolution of gas that occurs during the thermal decomposition of (over)charged cathode materials used in lithium-ion batteries. Results from charged Li<SUB><I>x</I></SUB>Ni<SUB>0.8</SUB>Co<SUB>0.15</SUB>Al<SUB>0.05</SUB>O<SUB>2</SUB> cathode materials indicate that the evolution of both O<SUB>2</SUB> and CO<SUB>2</SUB> gases are strongly related to phase transitions that occur during thermal decomposition, specifically from the layered structure (space group <I>R</I>3̅<I>m</I>) to the disordered spinel structure (<I>Fd</I>3̅<I>m</I>), and finally to the rock-salt structure (<I>Fm</I>3̅<I>m</I>). The state of charge also significantly affects both the structural changes and the evolution of oxygen as the temperature increases: the more extensive the charge, the lower the temperature of the phase transitions and the larger the oxygen release. Ex situ X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) and in situ transmission electron microscopy (TEM) are also utilized to investigate the local structural and valence state changes in Ni and Co ions, and to characterize microscopic morphology changes. <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>We aimed to characterize the lineages of influenza B viruses obtained from clinical specimens during the 2007–2014 seasons in South Korea. RT-PCR for the partial hemagglutinin gene of influenza B virus was performed on laboratory-confirmed influenza B samples from the 2007–2008 season to 2013–2014 season. A phylogenetic tree was generated, and current influenza vaccine strains for the Northern Hemisphere were used as representative strains of Victoria and Yamagata lineages.</P> <P>A total of 571 influenza B virus sequences were analyzed. During the 2009–2010 season, most of the circulating influenza B viruses matched the vaccine strain; 91.0% (91/100) of viruses belonged to the Victoria lineage. In the 2007–2008, 2011–2012, and 2013–2014 seasons, co-circulation of each influenza B lineage was found with a match ratio to the vaccine strain of 53.2% (42/79), 40.9% (63/154), and 58.3% (134/230), respectively. Overall, 41.7% (238/571) of the circulating influenza B viruses belonged to the lineage mismatching the vaccine strain.</P> <P>During the seven influenza seasons, influenza B epidemics were substantial in four seasons in South Korea. Significant mismatches of the vaccine and lineage of the circulating influenza B viruses were found. The current trivalent influenza vaccine may not be fully suitable for effective protection against influenza B.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> During the 2007–2014 seasons, influenza B epidemics were substantial in 4 seasons. </LI> <LI> The lineages of influenza B viruses in South Korea were investigated. </LI> <LI> Rate of lineage mismatch of vaccine and circulating influenza B viruses was 41.7%. </LI> <LI> QIV may improve the vaccine effectiveness, especially in the high-risk groups. </LI> </UL> </P>
