Vol.0 No.58

The purpose of this research is to provide a better understanding of the relationships between environmental uncertainty and two attributes of performance measurement systems(PMS), namely the diversity of measures and the use of PMS. To date, most of the empirical research on PMS has focused on the diversity of measures. This research has identified several contingent factors that have a decisive effect on two attributes of PMS. From a theoretical perspective, this research highlights the diversity of measurement and the nature of use as two closely intertwined dimensions of PMS. The questionnaire was sent out to employees whose positions were higher than a vice-director. One hundred and forty-three usable questionnaires were received. The results is summarized as follows: An environmental uncertainty was statistically positive associated with both diagnostic use and interactive use of PMS. It showed a positive and significant relationship between environmental uncertainty and diversity of measures. However, the diagnostic use and interactive use of PMS was not related to managerial performance. There was positive association between diversity of measures and managerial performance. This results support the existence of performance benefits from increasing diversity of measures. The findings of this study emphasized the importance of relevant choice for diversity of measures and use of PMS in accordance with environmental uncertainty.

Thermal and mechanical properties of poly(latic acid) reinforced with silanized basalt scales

        Shan-Shan Yao,Ming-Zhan Gao,Zhao-Yang Feng,Fan-Long Jin,박수진 한국화학공학회 2022 Korean Journal of Chemical Engineering Vol.39 No.7

Biodegradable poly(lactic acid) (PLA)-based composites were prepared using PLA and basalt scale (BS) viaa solution-blending method. BS surfaces were treated using a silane coupling agent, and their surface properties werecharacterized by high-resolution scanning electron microscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray spectrometry, and X-ray photoelectronspectrometry. Moreover, the influence of BS content on the thermal properties, flexural properties, impactstrength, and morphology of the PLA/silane-coupling-agent-treated BS (KH-BS) composites was analyzed. The thermalstability of the composites significantly increased due to the addition of KH-BS. Impact strength tests showed thatthe impact strength of the PLA/KH-BS composite with 4 wt% KH-BS was 3.14 kJ/m2, which is 51% higher than that ofpristine PLA (2.07 kJ/m2). The analysis of the fracture surfaces of the composites after the impact strength tests revealeda rough morphology with numerous river-like micro-cracks. The study results demonstrate that the addition of KH-BSsignificantly improves the thermal stability and impact strength of PLA/KH-BS composites.

A practical coherency model for spatially varying ground motions

        Yang, Qing-Shan,Chen, Ying-Jun Techno-Press 2000 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.9 No.2

Based on the discussion about some empirical coherency models resulted from earthquake-induced ground motion recordings at the SMART-1 array in Taiwan, and a heuristic model of the coherency function from elementary notions of stationary random process theory and a few simplifying assumptions regarding the propagation of seismic waves, a practical coherency model for spatially varying ground motions, which can be applied in aseismic analysis and design, is proposed, and the regressive coefficients are obtained using least-square fitting technique from the above recordings.

On pH and Ca2+ Oscillations Monitored by pH Electrode and Ca-ISE in Bromate–Sulfite–Ferrocyanide System Introduced Ca-EDTA

Shan Yang,Yu Long Hou,Dao Dao Hu 대한화학회 2015 Bulletin of the Korean Chemical Society Vol.36 No.1

The pH and Ca2+ oscillations of KBrO3–Na2SO3–K4Fe(CN)6 (BSF) system in presence ofEDTAor Ca-EDTA were investigated. Both EDTA and Ca-EDTA can depress the amplitude and period of pH oscillation, and the effects of Ca-EDTA are more obvious. These effects are attributed to the buffer effect in pH change. The Ca2+ oscillation appears as Ca-EDTAintroduced into the BSF system, which is ascribed to the stability of Ca-EDTA being pH-dependent. The pH and pCa (pCa = −log[Ca2+]) oscillations are synchronous in case of higher concentration of Ca-EDTA; however, the chaotic behavior emerged in pCa oscillation arises at lower pH as the concentration of Ca-EDTA is lower. Such observations can be understood by taking into account the interference of H+ on the response of Ca-ISE to Ca2+. Both amplitude and period for pH and pCa oscillations as KCl introduced into the system can be obviously shortened due to the effect of ion strength on the reaction rate of the core oscillator and on the conditional formation constant of Ca-EDTA. The results are significant for determining whether an experimentally observed chaos in chemical systems is of deterministic origin or is due to experimental noise.

Involvement of Orai1 in tunicamycin-induced endothelial dysfunction

        Yang, Hui,Xue, Yumei,Kuang, Sujuan,Zhang, Mengzhen,Chen, Jinghui,Liu, Lin,Shan, Zhixin,Lin, Qiuxiong,Li, Xiaohong,Yang, Min,Zhou, Hui,Rao, Fang,Deng, Chunyu The Korean Society of Pharmacology 2019 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology Vol.23 No.2

Endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress is mediated by disturbance of $Ca^{2+}$ homeostasis. The store-operated calcium (SOC) channel is the primary $Ca^{2+}$ channel in non-excitable cells, but its participation in agent-induced ER stress is not clear. In this study, the effects of tunicamycin on $Ca^{2+}$ influx in human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) were observed with the fluorescent probe Fluo-4 AM. The effect of tunicamycin on the expression of the unfolded protein response (UPR)-related proteins BiP and CHOP was assayed by western blotting with or without inhibition of Orai1. Tunicamycin induced endothelial dysfunction by activating ER stress. Orai1 expression and the influx of extracellular $Ca^{2+}$ in HUVECs were both upregulated during ER stress. The SOC channel inhibitor SKF96365 reversed tunicamycin-induced endothelial cell dysfunction by inhibiting ER stress. Regulation of tunicamycin-induced ER stress by Orai1 indicates that modification of Orai1 activity may have therapeutic value for conditions with ER stress-induced endothelial dysfunction.

Induction Chemotherapy Plus Concurrent Chemoradiotherapy versus Concurrent Chemoradiotherapy Alone in Locoregionally Advanced Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma in Children and Adolescents: A Matched Cohort Analysis

        Yang Li,Lin-Quan Tang,Li-Ting Liu,Shan-Shan Guo,Yu-Jing Liang,Xue-Song Sun,Qing-Nan Tang,Jin-Xin Bei,Jing Tan,Shuai Chen,Jun Ma,Chong Zhao,Qiu-Yan Chen,Hai-Qiang Mai 대한암학회 2018 Cancer Research and Treatment Vol.50 No.4

Purpose The purpose of this study was to evaluate the long-term clinical outcome and toxicity of induction chemotherapy (IC) followed by concomitant chemoradiotherapy (CCRT) compared with CCRT alone for the treatment of children and adolescent locoregionally advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma (LACANPC). Materials and Methods A total of 194 locoregionally advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients younger than 21 years who received CCRT with or without IC before were included in the study population. Overall survival (OS) rate, progression-free survival (PFS) rate, locoregional recurrence-free survival (LRFS) rate, and distant metastasis-free survival (DMFS) rate were assessed by the Kaplan-Meier method and a log-rank test. Treatment toxicities were clarified and compared between two groups. Results One hundred and thiry of 194 patients received IC+CCRT. Patients who were younger and with more advanced TNM stage were more likely to receive IC+CCRT and intensive modulated radiotherapy. The addition of IC before CCRT failed to improve survival significantly. The matched analysis identified 43 well-balanced patients in both two groups. With a median follow-up of 51.5 months, no differences were found between the IC+CCRT group and the CCRT group in 5-year OS (83.7% vs. 74.6%, p=0.153), PFS (79.2% vs. 73.4%, p=0.355), LRFS (97.7% vs. 88.2%, p=0.083), and DMFS (81.6% vs. 81.6%, p=0.860). N3 was an independent prognostic factor predicting poorer OS, PFS, and DMFS. The addition of IC was associated with increased rates of grade 3 to 4 neutropenia. Conclusion This study failed to demonstrate that adding IC before CCRT could provide a significant additional survival benefit for LACANPC patients. Further investigations are warranted.

      • IGF-1 from Adipose-Derived Mesenchymal Stem Cells Promotes Radioresistance of Breast Cancer Cells

        Yang, Hui-Ying,Qu, Rong-Mei,Lin, Xiao-Shan,Liu, Tong-Xin,Sun, Quan-Quan,Yang, Chun,Li, Xiao-Hong,Lu, Wei,Hu, Xiao-Fang,Dai, Jing-Xing,Yuan, Lin Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.23

Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate effects of adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells (AMSCs) on radioresistance of breast cancer cells. Materials and Methods: MTT assays were used to detect any influence of AMSC supernatants on proliferation of breast cancer cells; cell migration assays were used to determine the effect of breast cancer cells on the recruitment of AMSCs; the cell survival fraction post-irradiation was assessed by clonogenic survival assay; ${\gamma}$-H2AX foci number post-irradiation was determined via fluorescence microscopy; and expression of IGF-1R was detected by Western blotting. Results: AMSC supernatants promoted proliferation and radioresistance of breast cancer cells. Breast cancer cells could recruit AMSCs, especially after irradiation. IGF-1 derived from AMSCs might be responsible for the radioresistance of breast cancer cells. Conclusions: Our results suggest that AMSCs in the tumor microenvironment may affect the outcome of radiotherapy for breast cancer in vitro.

Wogonin attenuates vascular remodeling by inhibiting smooth muscle cell proliferation and migration in hypertensive rat

        Yang Yang,Huang Shan,Wang Jun,Nie Xiao,Huang Ling,Li Tianfa 대한약리학회 2024 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology Vol.28 No.1

Wogonin, extracted from the roots of Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi, has been shown to suppress collagen deposition in spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHRs). This study was performed to investigate the role and mechanism of wogonin underlying vascular remodeling in SHRs. After injection of SHRs with 40 mg/kg of wogonin, blood pressure in rats was measured once a week. Masson's trichrome staining was conducted to observe the changes in aortas and mesenteric arteries. Vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) isolated from rat thoracic aortas were treated with Angiotensin II (Ang II; 100 nM) in the presence or absence of varying concentrations of wogonin. The viability and proliferation of VSMCs were examined using Cell Counting Kit-8 assay and 5-ethynyl-2’-deoxyuridine assay, respectively. The migration of VSMCs was examined using wound healing assay and transwell assay. We found that wogonin administration alleviated hypertension, increased lumen diameter, and reduced the thickness of the arterial media in SHRs. Ang II treatment enhanced the viability of VSMCs, which was inhibited by wogonin in a concentration -dependent manner. Wogonin reversed Ang II-induced increases in the viability, proliferation, and migration of VSMCs. Moreover, wogonin inhibited Ang II-induced activation of mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) signaling in VSMCs. Overall, wogonin repressed the proliferative and migratory capacity of VSMCs by regulating the MAPK signaling pathway, thereby attenuating vascular remodeling in hypertensive rats, indicating that wogonin might be a therapeutic agent for the treatment of vascular diseases.

Histological Changes of Cervical Disc Tissue in Patients with Degenerative Ossification

        Yang Xiong,Ying-Li Yang,Yu-Shan Gao,Xiu-Mei Wang,Xing Yu 대한신경외과학회 2022 Journal of Korean neurosurgical society Vol.65 No.2

Objective : To explore the histological feature of the cervical disc degeneration in patients with degenerative ossification (DO) and its potential mechanisms. Methods : A total of 96 surgical segments, from cervical disc degenerative disease patients with surgical treatment, were divided into ossification group (group O, n=46) and non-ossification group (group NO, n=50) based on preoperative radiological exams. Samples of disc tissues and osteophytes were harvested during the decompression operation. The hematoxylin-eosin staining, Masson trichrome staining and Safranin O-fast green staining were used to compare the histological differences between the two groups. And the distribution and content of transforming growth factor (TGF)-β1, p-Smad2 and p-Smad3 between the two groups were compared by a semi-quantitative immunohistochemistry (IHC) method. Results : For all the disc tissues, the content of disc cells and collagen fibers decreased gradually from the outer annulus fibrosus (OAF) to the central nucleus pulposus (NP). Compared with group NO, the number of disc cells in group O increased significantly. But for proteoglycan in the inner annulus fibrosus (IAF) and NP, the content in group O decreased significantly. IHC analysis showed that TGF-β1, p-Smad2, and p-Smad3 were detected in all tissues. For group O, the content of TGF-β1 in the OAF and NP was significantly higher than that in group NO. For p-Smad2 in IAF and p-Smad3 in OAF, the content in group O were significantly higher than group NO. Conclusion : Histologically, cervical disc degeneration in patients with DO is more severe than that without DO. Local higher content of TGF-β1, p-Smad2, and p-Smad3 are involved in the disc degeneration with DO. Further studies with multi-approach analyses are needed to better understand the role of TGF-β/Smads signaling pathway in the disc degeneration with DO.

Feasibility analysis of bone density evaluation with Hounsfield unit value after fibula flap reconstruction of jaw defect

        Yihui Yang,Yifan Kang,Yifan Yang,Mengkun Ding,Xiaofeng Shan,Zhigang Cai 대한악안면성형재건외과학회 2023 Maxillofacial Plastic Reconstructive Surgery Vol.45 No.-

Background Implant-supported dentures have become an essential means of restoring occlusal function after jaw reconstruction. Bone mineral density (BMD) may influence the success rate of implant denture restorations. This study aimed to explore whether the Hounsfield unit (HU) value can be used to monitor the changing trend of fibular BMD after jaw reconstruction. Results A total of 54 patients who underwent maxillar/mandibular reconstruction with a fibula flap were included in this study. There was a significant correlation between the HU value and BMD at 1 week, 3 months, and 6 months after surgery, and both were significantly correlated with follow-up time. The difference between each pair of absorption rates (DAR) was less than 10% in 66.7% and 75.9% of patients at 3 and 6 months; however, the DAR was more than 20% in 12% and 13.8% of patients at 3 and 6 months, respectively. Conclusions There is a significant correlation between HU value and BMD. The HU value can be used to roughly reflect the fibular BMD changing trend in a group of patients as opposed to an individual, and the HU value is not equivalent to BMD.
