      • Financial Digital Management Transformation of Brokers: A Case Study Based on Societe Generale Securities

        Purpose - Building a digital enterprise is a fundamental strategic direction for today’s enterprises, and corporate financial management needs to be transformed accordingly. This study aims to explore the financial digital transformation undertaken by Societe Generale Securities, summarizing the essential steps involved in this transformative process. The relevant research provides a theoretical guidance for the digital transformation of enterprises. Most of China’s existing enterprise financial systems are still nascent in digital construction. Design/Methodology/Approach - This study uses Societe Generale’s case analysis methodology to delve into the company’s key steps and initiatives for digital transformation and the implications for financial management innovation. Findings - Through an in-depth analysis of the digitalization system of Societe Generale Securities, this study endeavors to discover the path of and steps in a financial digital transformation of large enterprises in the era of new technology. The study reveals that innovation in management practices is the foundation of digital transformation, enabling the integration of enterprise management accounting applications. Moreover, digital construction should always align with enterprise strategy. Research Implications - The three steps of Societe Generale Securities’ financial digital transformation provide guidance for other enterprises to implement digital transformation. This study shows that enterprise information construction is not a one-off process. It should be in line with the strategic stage and business environment, planned, and gradually implemented.

      • SNPs of Excision Repair Cross Complementing Group 5 and Gastric Cancer Risk in Chinese Populations

        We conducted a case-control study to determine the association between several potential SNPs of excision repair cross complementing group 5 (XPG) and gastric cancer susceptibility, and roles of XPG polymorphisms in combination with H.pylori infection in determining risk of gastric cancer. In our study, we collected 337 newly diagnosed gastric cancer cases and 347 health controls. Three SNPs of XPG, rs2296147T>C, rs2094258C>T and rs873601G>A, were genotyped using the Taqman real-time PCR method with a 7900 HT sequence detector system. H. pylori infection was diagnosed by ELISA. By multivariate logistic regression analysis, the rs2296147 CC genotype was associated with a decreased risk of gastric cancer (OR=0.52, 95% CI=0.27-0.97), and rs2094258 TT was associated with elevated risk (OR=2.13, 95% CI=1.22-3.35). Positive H.pylori individuals with rs2094258 TT genotypes demonstrated increased risk of gastric cancer (OR=2.13, 95% CI=1.22-3.35), while rs2296147 CC was associated with lower risk among patients with negative H.pylori (OR=0.45, 95%CI=0.22-0.89). Our findings suggested that XPG polymorphisms might contribute to risk of gastric cancer among Chinese populations, but the effect needs to be further validated by larger sample size studies.

        Gram-Scale Production of Ginsenoside F1 Using a Recombinant Bacterial β-Glucosidase

        Naturally occurring ginsenoside F1 (20-O-β-D-glucopyranosyl-20(S)-protopanaxatriol) is rare. Here, we produced gram-scale quantities of ginsenoside F1 from a crude protopanaxatriol saponin mixture comprised mainly of Re and Rg1 through enzyme-mediated biotransformation using recombinant β-glucosidase (BgpA) cloned from a soil bacterium, Terrabacter ginsenosidimutans Gsoil 3082<sup>T</sup>. In a systematic step-by-step process, the concentrations of substrate, enzyme, and NaCl were determined for maximal production of F1. At an optimized NaCl concentration of 200 mM, the protopanaxatriol saponin mixture (25 mg/ml) was incubated with recombinant BgpA (20 mg/ml) for 3 days in a 2.4 L reaction. Following octadecylsilyl silica gel column chromatography, 9.6 g of F1 was obtained from 60 g of substrate mixture at 95% purity, as assessed by chromatography. These results represent the first report of gram-scale F1 production via recombinant enzyme-mediated biotransformation.

        Baekduia soli gen. nov., sp. nov., a novel bacterium isolated from the soil of Baekdu Mountain and proposal of a novel family name, Baekduiaceae fam. nov.

        A taxonomic study was conducted on <TEX>$BR7-21^T$</TEX>, a bacterial strain isolated from the soil of a ginseng field in Baekdu Mountain. Comparative studies of the 16S rRNA gene sequence showed that the isolate was most closely related to Conexibacter woesei DSM <TEX>$14684^T$</TEX>, Solirubrobacter pauli ATCC <TEX>$BAA-492^T$</TEX>, Patulibacter minatonensis JCM <TEX>$12834^T$</TEX>, with 93.8%, 92.4%, and 91.5% sequence similarity, respectively; each genus represented a family in the order Solirubrobacterales. Strain <TEX>$BR7-21^T$</TEX> was Gram-reaction positive, non-spore forming, aerobic, non-motile, and short rod-shaped. It grew well on half-strength R2A medium. The G + C content of the genomic DNA was 73.9%. It contained meso-diaminopimelic acid in the cell wall and the major menaquinones were MK-7(<TEX>$H_4$</TEX>) and MK-8(<TEX>$H_4$</TEX>). The major fatty acids were summarized as (<TEX>$C_{16:1}\;{\omega}7c/iso-C_{15:0}\;2-OH$</TEX>), <TEX>$iso-C_{16:0}$</TEX>, and <TEX>$C_{17:0}$</TEX> cyclo. On the basis of polyphasic evidence, it was proposed that strain <TEX>$BR7-21^T$</TEX> should be placed in a new genus and species, for which the name Baekduia soli gen. nov., sp. nov. was proposed with the type strain <TEX>$BR7-21^T$</TEX> (<TEX>$=KCTC\;22257^T=LMG\;24797^T$</TEX>). The family Baekduiaceae fam. nov. is proposed to encompass the genus Baekduia gen. nov.

        Intestine epithelial cell-derived extracellular vesicles alleviate inflammation induced by Clostridioides difficile TcdB through the activity of TGF-β1

        Background Clostridioides diffi cile infection (CDI) has been primarily associated with the toxin B (TcdB), one of the three known protein toxins secreted by C. diffi cile , which can activate the intestinal immune system and lead to pathological damage. Even though the biological functions of intestine epithelial cell-derived extracellular vesicles (I-Evs) have been well documented, the role of I-Evs in the process of CDI is still unknown. Objectives The protective eff ect of I-Evs against C. diffi cile TcdB was investigated both in cultured murine colon carcinoma MC38 cells and a mouse model used in this study. Results Mouse I-Evs with mean diameter ranging from 100 to 200 nm and a density of 1.09–1.17 g/mL were obtained and confi rmed containing the Ev-associated specifi c surface markers CD63 and TSG101 as well as high level of TGF-β1. In MC38 cells, I-Evs were able to decrease the gene expression of IL-6, TNF-α, IL-1β, and IL-22 induced by C. diffi cile TcdB, but to increase both the gene expression and protein levels of TGF-β1. I-Evs treatment via intraperitoneal administration alleviates C. diffi cile TcdB-induced local colon infl ammation in mice and increased their survival rate from 50% up to 80%. Furthermore, I-Evs induced an increase in the proportion of CD4 + Foxp3 + Tregs in vitro and in vivo through a TGF-β1-dependent mechanism by activating the TGF-β1 pathway and prompting phosphorylation of the downstream proteins Smad 2/3. Conclusion For the fi rst time, our study demonstrated that I-Evs originated from intestine epithelial cells can alleviate infl ammation induced by C. diffi cile TcdB both in vitro and in vivo. Therefore, I-Evs might be potentially a novel endogenous candidate for eff ective treatment of CDI.

        Anxiolytic-Like Effects of Methanol Extract of Zizyphi Spinosi Semen in Mice

        Zizyphi Spinosi Semen (ZSS), a traditional Chinese folk medicine, has been used for treatment of insomnia and anxiety. This experiment was performed to investigate the anxiolytic-like effect of methanol extract of ZSS (MEZSS) in mice by using the experimental paradigms of anxiety and compared with that of a known anxiolytic, diazepam. In the elevated plus-maze test, it showed that MEZSS (100 mg/kg, p.o.) and diazepam (2.0 mg/kg, p.o.) increased the percentage of time spent on the open arms and the number of open arms entries. MEZSS (50, 100 and 200 mg/kg, p.o.) and diazepam (0.5 mg/kg, p.o.) significantly increased the number of head dips compared with that of control group in the hole-board test. However, MEZSS has no effect on decreasing the locomotor activity, while diazepam (2.0 mg/kg, p.o.) significantly inhibited locomotor activity. MEZSS did not decrease the strength force in the grip strength test, either. In addition, GABAergic involvements were also investigated to understand the possible mechanisms. GABAA receptors subunits and glutamic acid decarboxylase (GAD) were not over expressed, compared with that of the saline group. We also found that MEZSS did not increase chloride influx in cultured cerebellar granule cells. It is concluded that MEZSS might have anxiolytic-like effects, but these effects might not be mediated by GABAergic transmission.

        Effects and Mechanism of Turmeric Vasorelaxation of the Thoracic Aorta in Hypercholesterolemic Rats

        An extract of Curcuma longa was tested in hypercholesterolemic rats to investigate its potential therapeutic effect on vascular conditions. Four experimental groups were used: normal diet (ND) control group, high cholesterol diet (HCD) group, and HCD subgroups supplemented with turmeric extract at 100 or 300 mg/kg of body weight (HCD100Tur and HCD300Tur groups, respectively). Turmeric extract was fed orally to animals, and dietary treatments lasted for 28 days. Hypercholesterolemia developed in the HCD, HCD100Tur, and HCD300Tur rats. Segments of the thoracic aorta were isolated, and an organ bath experiment was used to assess the vasorelaxation capability among all rats. Rats fed only HCD showed a marked decrease in acetylcholine-induced vasorelaxation compared with ND control rats. The HCD100Tur and HCD300Tur rats showed significant improvement in vasorelaxation compared with HCD rats. When vasorelaxation was induced by high concentrations of sodium nitroprusside, no differences in vasorelaxation were observed among the four groups of rats. A mechanistic study showed that HCD100Tur and HCD300Tur rats had significantly higher levels of the antioxidant enzymes superoxide dismutase and glutathione peroxidase than HCD rats. The transcript levels of heat shock protein 70 (hsp70), bcl2, bax-a, caspase (casp3), and glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate dehydrogenase in aortic tissues indicated that hypercholesterolemia significantly increased the expression of bax-a and casp3 but down-regulated bcl2 expression compared with the control group. Turmeric increased the expression of hsp70 and bcl2 but greatly reduced casp3 expression,indicating that turmeric improves vasorelaxation of the aorta in hypercholesterolemic rats by increasing antioxidant enzyme activities and likely suppressing apoptosis.

        Structure and Bio-properties of Extracellular Polysaccharide from Bacillus sp. Strain LBP32 Isolated from LUOBOPO Desert

        A gray and low viscosity extracellular polysaccharide (EPS) composed of N-acetylglucosamine, xylose,and mannose was isolated from culture medium of Bacillus sp. strain LBP32 by ethanol precipitation followed by dialysis and freeze-drying. The crude biopolymer showed an apparent molecular weight (Mw) of ~ 9.62 × 10^4. Chemical and spectroscopic studies revealed that the bacterial biopolymer was composed of a β-1,4-linked backbone carrying a low content of β-1,3-linked backbone. In addition, the EPS demonstrated a high antioxidant activity in a concentration dependent manner. The 50%inhibition concentration (IC_(50)) for quenching hydroxyl radical (·OH) and superoxide radical (·O_2^−) were 0.042 and 0.165 mg/mL, respectively. Furthermore, the EPS demonstrated a strong protective effect against lipid peroxidation and radiation such as UV radiation and ion beam irradiation. These results indicate that the protective effects of the EPS were most likely due to its free radical scavenging ability.
