Melatonin is involved in the regulation of various biological functions. Here, we explored a novel molecular mechanism by which the melatonin-induced sestrin2 (SESN2)-small heterodimer partner (SHP) signaling pathway protects against fasting- and diabetes-mediated hepatic glucose metabolism. Various key gene expression analyses were performed and multiple metabolic changes were assessed in liver specimens and primary hepatocytes of mice and human participants. The expression of the hepatic cereblon (CRBN) and b-cell translocation gene 2 (BTG2) genes was significantly increased in fasting mice, diabetic mice, and patients with diabetes. Overexpression of Crbn and Btg2 increased hepatic gluconeogenesis by enhancing cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP)-responsive element-binding protein H (CREBH), whereas this phenomenon was prominently ablated in Crbn null mice and Btg2-silenced mice. Interestingly, melatonin-induced SESN2 and SHP markedly reduced hepatic glucose metabolism in diabetic mice and primary hepatocytes, and this protective effect of melatonin was strikingly reversed by silencing Sesn2 and Shp. Finally, the melatonin-induced SESN2-SHP signaling pathway inhibited CRBN- and BTG2-mediated hepatic gluconeogenic gene transcription via the competition of BTG2 and the interaction of CREBH. Mitigation of the CRBN-BTG2-CREBH axis by the melatonin-SESN2-SHP signaling network may provide a novel therapeutic strategy to treat metabolic dysfunction due to diabetes.

Objectives This study aimed at proposing a hypothetical principle to add or abstract herbs for modifying Taeeumjowi-tang.Method Based on Jema Lee's literatures such as Dongyisusebowon and Dongyisasangsipyeon, we analyzed contents related to Taeeumjowi-tang and its modification. Moreover, we reviewed physiological and pathological pecularities of Taeeumin symptomatology and applied the theory to induce the principle of the modified Taeeumjowi-tang in Sasang medicine.Results and Conclusions 1) We have found 10 modified Taeeumjowi-tang from Dongyisasangsipyeon. 2) Mahwangjowi-tang (麻黃調胃湯), Gogijowi-tang (固氣調胃湯), Shingijowi-tang (腎氣調胃湯), Euiyiinjowi-tang (薏苡仁調胃湯), Gamijowi-tang (加味調胃湯), and Gyeongheomjowi-tang (經驗調胃湯) are modified for Taeeumin who have original symptoms of more severe cold tendency. Especially, Gogijowi-tang helps to circulate energy-fluid from esophagus to skin, while Shingijowi-tang directly aids the function of esophagus. 3) Seungjijowi-tang (升芷調胃湯), Seunggeumjowi-tang (升芩調胃湯), Seunggijowi-tang (承氣調胃湯), and Jowisokmyung-tang (調胃續命湯) are modified for Taeeumin who have originally cold symtoms, accompanied by heat tendencies. Especially, Seungjijowi-tang helps to eliminate mild heat existing throughout skin and flesh, while Seunggeumjowi-tang gets rid of severe heat swarming in the flesh parts. Seunggijowi-tang can take away the most severe heat symptoms in the whole body

Objective: To examine the effects of different shoe weights on lower leg muscle fatigue when walking by electromyographic (EMG) analysis due to the most effective weight for loading not being established. Design: Cross-sectional study. Methods: Thirty healthy university students (15 male, 15 female) were enrolled and randomly assigned into three conditions, which included wearing athletic shoes with an addition of 300 g, 500 g, and 1,000 g weights respectively. Prior to walking, all subjects were instructed to sit in a chair for 10 minutes. All subjects walked at a speed of 3.6 m/s on a treadmill for 20 minutes without rest. EMG measurements were taken using the median power frequency to assess for the effect of the different weight of shoes on muscle fatigue of the soleus, gastrocnemius, and tibialis anterior while walking on a treadmill in an upright posture. EMG measurements were taken during the first and last 30 seconds of walking. Results: In terms of muscle fatigue, for the soleus, the median power frequency was significantly lower with 1,000 g compared with 300 g and 500 g (p<0.05). For the tibialis anterior, the median power frequency was significantly lower with 1,000 g than 300 g and 500 g (p<0.05). For the gastrocnemius, the median power frequency was significantly lower with 1,000 g compared with 300 g (p<0.05). Conclusions: Increased shoe weight increases soleus, gastrocnemius, and tibialis anterior muscle fatigue during ambulation.

본 연구는 빠르게 변하는 미래의 일자리 변화와 과학기술의 현황을 STEAM 프로그램 개발을 통해 진로 · 직업 중심의 교육 콘텐츠를 보급하는 것이 목적이다. 미래직업 연계형 분야를 ‘가상환경과 미래직업’이라는 주제로 방향을 설정하여 ‘블록체인’, ‘가상화폐’, ‘공유경제’, ‘디지털 집단지성’, ‘스마트홈’, ‘스마트 헬스케어’라는 6 가지 콘텐츠를 선정하였다. 개발 프로그램은 태블릿 PC, 노트북과 같은 디지털 기기를 활용하여 프로그램을 진행하였으며, 주제별로 발생할 수 있는 사회적 · 윤리적 문제를 토의와 토론을 통해 해결방안을 모색하도록 구성하였다. 개발한 STEAM 프로그램은 서울지역 중학교 5 곳과 경기도 지역 고등학교 2 곳 총 7 개 학교에서 교사 10 명, 학생 491 명을 대상으로 시범 적용을 하였다. 가상환경이라는 범위 안에 6 가지 주제가 서로 연계되듯이 이와 관련된 미래직업도 다양한 분야에서 서로 연계되어 생각해 볼 수 있다는 것에 의미가 있다.

A potentiometric sensor based on the 1-benzyl-3-(4-nitrophenyl) thio-urea was synthesized and tested as an ionophore in PVC based membrane sensor towards $SCN^-$ ions. This membrane exhibits a linear stable response over a wide concentration range ($1.0{\times}10^{-5}$ to $1.0{\times}10^{-2}M$) with a slope of -59.2 mV/dec., a detection limit of ${\log}[SCN^-]=-5.05$, and a selectivity coefficient for thiocyanate against perchlorate anion of ${\log}K^{pot}_{SCN^-j}=-0.133$. The selectivity series of the membrane is as follows: $SCN^-$ > $ClO_4{^-}$ > $I^-$ > $NO_3{^-}$ > $HSO_3{^-}$ > $Cl^-$ > $HSO_4{^-}$ > $F^-$ > $CH_3COO^-$ > $HCO_3{^-}$ > $Br^-$ > $H_2PO_4{^-}$ > $SO{_3}^{2-}$ > $SO{_4}^{2-}$ > $CO{_3}^{2-}$. The proposed electrode showed good selectivity and a good response for the $SCN^-$ ion over a wide variety of other anions in pH 6.0 buffer solutions and has a fast response time of about < 5s. The influences of the membrane by pH, ionophore, and plasticizer were studied.

<P>In this paper, we present an adaptive background generation method for automatic selection of initial object regions, which realizes simultaneous object detection and depth estimation using multiple color-filter aperture (MCA) camera. Since the conventional background generation method does not fit the depth estimation using the MCA camera, we propose a novel color-based background generation method which can reduce interference in the object region for stable depth estimation. For efficient estimation of color shifting vectors in the extracted object region, a simplified elastic registration (ER) algorithm is used. The proposed simplified method is essential factor to realize realtime depth estimation and tracking, which is the primary condition for consumer applications. Finally, the object distance is determined by using the relationship between the pre-specified distance transformation function and the estimated shifting vectors of the corresponding object region. Although traditional depth estimation methods generally use dual cameras for stereo vision, the proposed method uses only a single camera for both object detection and depth estimation. Experimental results show that the proposed MCA camera-based object detection system can be used in a variety of consumer surveillance systems such as intelligent transport systems, 3D-based cameras and advanced safety vehicles.</P>

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Pure and bimetallic transition metal oxides have been very attracted for catalysts, energy storage and magnetic applications. Herein, FeNi oxide and pure Fe<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB> cubes synthesized by the hydrothermal method, and ferromagnetic multiphase FeNi oxide and pure Fe<SUB>3</SUB>O<SUB>4</SUB> were first shown to be induced by water-gas shift reaction (WGSR). The multiphase FeNi oxide showed a saturation magnetization of 88.7 emu/g at 1.8 K with the Verwey transition point at 120 K. For comparison, pure paramagnetic Fe<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB> cubes were found to be changed to ferromagnetic (83.1 emu/g) Fe<SUB>3</SUB>O<SUB>4</SUB> upon WGSR. The WGSR-induced multiphase FeNi oxide was found to be active at temperatures as low as 220 °C, much lower than 500 °C for pure Fe oxides. The FeNi oxide cubes showed a specific capacitance of 104 F/g at a current density of 1.67 A/g, higher than 67 F/g for pure Fe oxide.
