Submerged arc welding, which is generally used for the corner joint of box-section columns, is a welding process with a high heat input. The influence on the strength and toughness of the heat-affected zone is an important concern, especially when used with a high-performance steel that may be more susceptible to heat input. The ductility of the welded corner joint is one of the important factors to ensure safety against external forces, such as during severe earthquakes. In this study, a series of material and cyclic loading tests of the corner joint comprising SA440C high-performance steel fabricated by submerged arc welding were conducted. The experimental results indicated that the welded corner joint comprising SA440C steel is ductile enough to dissipate input energy caused by the strong ground motion from an earthquake.

Study Design: Animal study. Purpose: To review the present warning point criteria of the compound muscle action potential (CMAP) and investigate new criteria for spinal surgery safety using an animal model. Overview of Literature: Little is known about correlation palesis and amplitude of spinal cord monitoring. Methods: After laminectomy of the tenth thoracic spinal lamina, 2–140 g force was delivered to the spinal cord with a tension gage to create a bilateral contusion injury. The study morphology change of the CMAP wave and locomotor scale were evaluated for one month. Results: Four different types of wave morphology changes were observed: no change, amplitude decrease only, morphology change only, and amplitude and morphology change. Amplitude and morphology changed simultaneously and significantly as the injury force increased (p <0.05) Locomotor scale in the amplitude and morphology group worsened more than the other groups. Conclusions: Amplitude and morphology change of the CMAP wave exists and could be the key of the alarm point in CMAP.

Chronic expanding hematoma (CEH) is a rare, slow- developing disease that occurs months to years after trauma or surgery. Most CEH in soft tissue occurs in the thigh or upper extremities and can occur with or without an inducible cause. Ninety-one cases of CEH in soft tissue have been reported previously in the Japanese and English literature but its occurrence on the sole has not been reported. Here, we report four cases of successfully treated CEH, including a case occurring on the sole, and provide a review of the literature. (Ann Dermatol 26(1) 107∼110, 2014)
Vibration Control of a Micro-Actuator for the Hard Disk Drive using Self-Sensing Actuation
Minoru Sasaki,Satoshi Ito 제어로봇시스템학회 2008 제어로봇시스템학회 국제학술대회 논문집 Vol.2008 No.10
In this paper, self-sensing control of a micro-actuator for the hard disk drive is presented. The micro-actuator is a suspension driving type. The micro-actuator uses a PZT actuator pair, installed on the assembly of the suspension. The self-sensing micro actuator can be used to form a combined actuation and sensing mechanism. Direct velocity feedback control and positive position feedback control of a self-sensing micro-actuator for an HDD is presented. The experimental results show that the direct velocity feedback controller and the positive position feedback controller are effective in suppressing the vibration modes. Experiments successfully demonstrate that the self-sensing actuator can be used for active feedback control of the HDD suspension assembly vibration.

We conducted phylogenetic analyses using multiplexed inter-simple sequence repeat genotyping by sequencing and compared chloroplast DNA sequences among Ardisia japonica, A. pusilla, and morphologically intermediate plants found on Jeju Island, Korea. Our network analysis demonstrated that the intermediate plants were genetically positioned between A. japonica and A. pusilla. Our comparison of the intergenic spacer between the psbA and trnH genes in chloroplast DNA indicated that four nucleotide substitutions separate A. japonica and A. pusilla, whereas the intermediate plants exhibited the A. japonica haplotype. Our results suggest that the intermediate plants on Jeju Island represent a natural hybrid of A. japonica, as the maternal species, and A. pusilla, and that they are attributable to Ardisia×walkeri. This record constitutes the first documented occurrence of the hybrid taxon in Korea.

The systematic search and design of phosphine ligands (PR(3)) and amine cocatalysts resulted in obtaining pentamethyl-cyclopentadienyl (Cp*) ruthenium(II) phosphine complexes [RuCp*Cl(PR(3))(2)], which are highly active and removable catalysts, for transition-metal-catalyzed living radical polymerization of methyl methacrylate (MMA). The catalysts are conveniently prepared in situ from a tetrameric precursor [RuCp*(mu(3)-Cl)](4) and a selected phosphine (PR(3)). The combination of the meta-tolyl phosphine [P(m-Tol)(3)] ligand and a primary diamine cocatalyst [NH(2)(CH(2))(6)NH(2)] provides a highly active catalytic system with precision control of the molecular weight of the polymer. The high activity enables a low catalyst dose and a high turn-over frequency without deteriorating the controllability. A hydrophilic amine cocatalyst (amino alcohol) in place of the diamine, further forms an active and removable catalyst; simple treatment with acidic water gave colorless polymers visually free from metal residues (>97 % removal; <64 ppm).

The volatile compounds of McIntosh apples were separated and identified at the stage of climacteric maximum. 21 compounds were identified from head space method and classes of that were 13 kinds of esters, 6 of alcohols, an aldehyde and a ketone. From simultaneous steam distillation-extraction method, 37 compounds were identified and classes of that were 20 kinds of esters, 14 of alcohols, 2 of aldehydes and a ketone. Esters were the most abundant flavor component in the both methods and next was alcohols.
