For the expression study of antioxidant isoenzyme genes in rice (Oryza sativa L.) plants, extensive searches for genes of superoxide dismutase (SOD), ascorbate peroxidase (APX), and catalase (CAT) isoforms were performed through the GenBank database. The genes for two cytosolic and one plastidic CuZn-SOD, one Fe-SOD, two Mn-SOD, two cytosolic and two chloroplastic (stromal and thylakoid) APX, and three CAT isoforms were available in japonica-type rice. These isoforms were named as cCuZn-SOD1, cCuZn-SOD2, pCuZn-SOD, Fe-SOD, Mn-SOD1, Mn-SOD2, cAPXa, cAPXb, Chl_sAPX, Chl_tAPX, CATa, CATb, and CATc, respectively. Since they shared a high degree of homology in the nucleotide and amino acid sequences, the gene-specific primers for the genes were designed directly from their full-length cDNAs found in the database except for the CATa gene. These primers were used in the RT-PCR analysis to investigate the differential expression of antioxidant isoenzyme genes in rice plants from the seeds irradiated with low doses (2, 4, 8, and 16 Gy) of gamma-radiation. The gammairradiation slightly increased the transcripts of pCuZn-SOD, while those of Fe-SOD, cAPXb, and CATb decreased. However, no substantial differences were observed in the expression of all the isoenzyme genes between the control and irradiated groups. In this study, gene specific primers for thirteen SOD, APX and CAT isoenzymes were constructed from the full-length cDNAs. The results of RT-PCR analysis obtained by using these primers suggests that the expression levels of SOD, APX, and CAT isoenzyme genes in rice seedlings were hardly affected by gamma-irradiation at the seed stage.

Analysis of chlorophyll (Chl) fluorescence implicated treatment of 40 mM NaCl decreased maximal photochemical efficiency of photosystem II (PSII) (Fv/Fm), actual quantum yield of PSII (${\Phi}_{PSII}$), and photochemical quenching (qP) in rice, but increased non-photochemical quenching (NPQ). Decreases in Fv/Fm, ${\Phi}_{PSII}$, and qP were significantly alleviated by $30\;{\mu}M$ jasmonic acid (JA), while NPQ increase was enhanced. Transcription levels of antioxidant isoenzyme genes were differentially modulated by NaCl treatment. Expression of cCuZn-SOD2 gene increased, while those of cAPXb, CATb, and CATc genes decreased. JA prevented salt-induced decrease of pCuZn-SOD gene expression, but caused greater decrease in mRNA levels of cAPXa and Chl_tAPX genes. Investigation of vacuolar $Na^+/H^+$ exchanger (NHX2) and 1-pyrroline-5-carboxylate synthetase (P5CS) gene expressions revealed transcription level of NHX2 gene was increased by JA, regardless of NaCl presence, while that of P5CS gene slightly increased only in co-presence of JA and NaCl. Unlike JA, ${\gamma}$-radiation rarely affected expressions of antioxidant isoenzyme, NHX2, and P5CS genes, except for increase in mRNA level of Chl_tAPX and decrease in that of pCuZn-SOD. These results demonstrate enhanced salt-tolerance in JA-treated rice seedlings may be partly due to high transcription levels of pCuZn-SOD, NHX2, and P5CS genes under salt stress.

Taxonomic review of the family Thyrididae (Lepidoptera) in Korea
Sang-Yeoup Kim,Bong-Kyu Byun 한국응용곤충학회 2018 한국응용곤충학회 학술대회논문집 Vol.2018 No.10
The family Thyrididae was known as a small group comprising 940 species in the world (Nieukerken et al, 2011). In Korea, the first report of the family was made by Park (1983) with four species. Later, 10 species of 4 genera was enumerated by several researchers (Park & Byun, 1990; Choi, 2005). The typical characteristics of the family Thyrididae is a window-like transparent pattern of wings. Some species in the family are classified as insect pest species (Jo, 1995). Thus, it is important to study the group for the applied fields. In this study, the reveiw of the family Thyrididae in Korea was conducted. All available materials was examined and illustrated. Also the collecting localities, illustrations of adults and genitalia are provided.

Purpose: This study was to report our experience of the brief survey for teaching journal writing by medical students in a clinical curriculum of family medicine. Methods: Brief surveys performed by medical students in clinical clerkship of department of family medicine from 1998 to 2000. Medical students determined theme without rein for brief surveys. Lecture about meaning and process of survey was given for sufficient understanding of students, and then surveys were conducted. The subjects of survey were outpatients, nursing person, medical students, nursing students, and other general persons. The subjects of theme were classified to 17 chapters 7 components by international classification of primary care (ICPC). Results: In analysis of brief surveys according to ICPC, the reasons for surveys by components were diagnostic, screening prevention (89.0%), treatment, procedures, medication (5.7%), symptoms, complaints (5.3%). By chapters, there were social (64.6%), psychological (12.6%), metabolic and endocrine (6.5%). Among social problems, there were other social problem (35.4%), health care system/access (20.9%), problem with education (13.9%), relation problems partner (12.7%). Majority of medical students had affirmative response for survey conduction. In conclusion, our finding suggest that teaching journal writing as brief survey seems to be useful in understanding of journal writing of medical students.
