Background: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the most malignant tumors worldwide. The goal of our study was to identify new biomarkers for HCC for early detection and for gaining an improved understanding of hepatocarcinogenesis by performing a comparative proteomic analysis of HCC and adjacent non-tumor tissue. Methods: Pairs of tumor and adjacent non-tumor tissue were obtained from 167 HCC patients after surgical resection at Ajou University Hospital, Korea. We assessed the histopathological features and additional clinical data. Proteomic analysis of tumor and non-tumor tissue revealing differential expression using 2D electrophoresis and MALDI-TOF MS analysis reveals some xenobiotic enzymes and apo E was selected. The associations between the expression of apoE and the clinical and pathological parameters were analyzed using SPSS. Results: One of the xenobiotic enzymes, apoE was significantly increased in tumor tissue compared with surrounding nontumor tissue. Paired T-test showed significant high level of apoE in tumor compared with non-tumor (209.91 vs 87.59, p < .01). Oneway ANOVA revealed that levels of apoE were elevated independently among different Child classes, etiologies, sex and consumption of alcohol. Conclusions: We compared the protein profiles between tumor and non-tumor tissue in HCC patients. This study revealed that apoE was significantly higher in HCC than in non-tumor tissue. The multivariate analysis confirmed apoE was higher in regardless of Child class, etiology, sex and alcohol consumption. ApoE has long been known as plasma lipoproteins responsible for cholesterol transport and metabolism. Plasma apoE is produced mainly in the liver but also in the brain, adrenal glands, kidney, and macrophage and not increased in gene expression and serum level in patients with HCC. Some proteomic studies reports a strong relationship between other cancers and apoE. We suppose that this report add a clue to understand hepatocarcinogenesis from hepatic steatosis to consequently hepatic carcinoma.

Glasses in the system xB2O3-(60-x)P2O5-40Na2O (x = 0 mol. %, 10 mol. %, 20 mol. %, 30 mol. %, 40 mol. %) were prepared and characterized by measuring their density (ρ), molar volume (VM), glass transition/ softening temperature (Tg/Td), thermal expansion coefficient (α) and chemical durability (DR). All of these values were found to vary with the B2O3 content of the glasses. The results were interpreted on the basis of the structural data. The Raman and infrared spectra confirmed these structural changes.

Thermally unstable nature of hybrid organic inorganic perovskites has been a major obstacle to fabricating the long-term operational device. A cesium lead halide perovskite has been suggested as an alternative light absorber, due to its superb thermal stability. However, the phase instability and poor performance are hindering the further progress. Here, cesium lead halide perovskite solar cells with enhanced performance and stability are demonstrated via incorporating potassium cations. Based on Cs0.925K0.075PbI2Br, the planar-architecture device achieves a power conversion efficiency of 10.0%, which is a remarkable record in the field of inorganic perovskite solar cells. In addition, the device shows an extended operational lifetime against air. Our research will stimulate the development of cesium lead halide perovskite materials for next-generation photovoltaics.

Effect of ZnO on Physical and Optical Properties of Bismuth Borate Glasses
Nam Jin Kim,Young Hoon La,Sang Hyeok Im,Won Tack Han,Bong Ki Ryu 대한금속재료학회 ( 구 대한금속학회 ) 2009 ELECTRONIC MATERIALS LETTERS Vol.5 No.4
This paper presents the results and observations obtained from a study of the effects of zinc oxide on the optical properties of B2O3-Bi2O3-ZnO glasses. In this study, we prepared glasses with the composition, 2xZnO-(50-x)[B2O3·Bi2O3], (x=0, 5, 10, 15), and analyzed their physical, thermal and optical properties. The systematic variation in the density and molar volume in these glasses indicates the effect of ZnO on the glass structure. Differential thermal analysis (DTA) studies showed that the glass transition temperature (Tg) decreases from 423℃ to 390℃ as the content of ZnO increases. The values of the optical band gap and theoretical optical basicity are also investigated.

This study looks at crystallization and sintering behavior in B2O3 containing Li2O-Al2O3-SiO2 glass powder. The sintered sample was produced with glass powders measuring 44 μm. The relative density and transmittance of the sintered samples showed the highest value at the temperature of 650°C. At temperatures higher than 650°C, crystal growth occurred to decrease the densification of B2O3-Li2O-Al2O3-SiO2 (BLAS) glass powder. The main crystalline phase in the glass powder was a-spodumene. From non-isothermal differential thermal analysis, the crystallization of particles (Φ=44 μm) was observed at 640°C to 684°C with respect to the heating rate. The activation energy of crystallization (E(C)) and the Avrami constant (n) calculated by Kissinger and Ozawa equations indicated that the surface and the bulk crystallization occurred simultaneously in the glass. The optimum sintering temperature of this glass powder was 650°C without crystal growth of β-spodumene, although nucleation or nano-crystal growth occurred.
