관사(정관사와 부정관사)가 없는 언어를 모국어로 하는 사람은 관사가 있는 외국어를 배울 때, 관사 사용과 관련하여 많은 어려움을 겪고 있다. 이에, 본 연구에서는 관사가 없는 모국어를 사용하는 외국인이 프랑스어를 학습할 때 “왜 관사사용을 적절하게 할수 없는지”를 파악하고 이에 대한 효율적인 학습방안을 제시하기 위하여, 프랑스어 관사를 소개하는 문법책들을 분석한 후, 프랑스어에 관한 정관사와 부정관사(본 논문에서는 단수형에 국한하였다)의 사용 및 선택을 도와줄 수 있는 새로운 교수방법을 제안하였다.

Computational Foundations of Database Semantics

In the nineteen seventies and eighties, linguists gave their phrase structure grammars of small natural language fragments to computer scientists for turning them into running software. Theoretically, context-free PS grammar runs in n³ time, but the linguistically sophisticated fragments parsed very slowly. Moreover, many refinements broke up the dominant theory of nativism into numerous subtheories, creating an embarrassment of riches. The response was broadening the empirical base regarding completeness of (i) data coverage and of (ii) function. Data coverage was addressed by the rise of corpus linguistics. Instead of having to choose from a bewildering variety of subtheories providing alternative analyses of traditional examples, attention turned to building large collections of “real” language. The method of choice for analyzing these data (a) automatically and (b) free from any of the available subtheories is statistics. Corpus linguistics, like the theories it set out to replace, is sign-based. Completeness of function, however, presupposes an agent-based approach such as Database Semantics. DBS (1) integrates external interfaces for recognition and action, a memory, and an algorithm for mapping between them; (2) improves the data coverage by a continuous cycle of upscaling and automatic verification and (3) combines traditional notions of grammar with a time-linear derivation order, resulting in real time performance. This paper describes the contact points between the linguistic aspects of DBS and its foundations in computer science.

Humanistic Bildung: regulative idea or empty concept?

The article focuses on the notion and humanistic ideal of self-cultivation and self-transformation, for which the term Bildung is/was traditionally used in German educational thought. It is argued that the idea of Bildung, understood as human development and end-in-itself, is not a German exclusivity. However, to understand the specificity of the notion, it may be necessary to consider that German Enlightenment—Aufklärung—in which the term gained a lot of importance, came later in history than French, English, and Scottish Enlightenment. Whereas in the early Western Enlightenment period, freedom was understood as an outward, definitely political concept, in later German Enlightenment the predominant understanding of freedom was characterized by a rather aesthetic dimension, not outward but internal freedom. The shift from a political understanding of Enlightenment—like in France, and also England or Scotland—to German inwardness (“Innerlichkeit”), as realized by the concept of Bildung, can be—at least to a certain degree—interpreted as a desire of German intellectuals at the time to escape from a brutal and on the whole disappointing post-revolutionary world to a place where man could seek secular perfection: an escape toward inwardness.

Grammatical Disambiguation: The Natural Language Linear Complexity Hypothesis

By combining concatenations of constant complexity with a strictly time-linear derivation order, the computational complexity degree of DBS (AIJ’01) is linear time (TCS’92). The only way to increase DBS complexity above linear would be a recursive ambiguity in the hear mode. In natural language, however, recursive ambiguity is prevented by grammatical disambiguation. An example of grammatically disambiguating a nonrecursive ambiguity is the ‘garden path’ sentence The horse raced by the barn fell (Bever 1970). The continuation horse+raced introduces a local ambiguity between horse raced (active) and horse which was raced (passive), leading to two parallel derivation strands up to and including barn. Depending on continuing after barn with an interpunctuation or a verb, one of the [-global] readings (FoCL 11.3) is grammatically eliminated. An example of grammatically disambiguating a recursive ambiguity is The man who loves the woman who loves Tom who Lucy loves, with the subordinating conjunction who.Depending on whether the continuation after who is a verb or a noun, one of the two [-global] readings is grammatically eliminated (momentary choice between who being subject or object).

Design and analysis of a discrete phase-lead controller via bode plot for electric vehicle dc electric motor speed control

In mechanical systems, speed varies with many tasks so speed control is very necessary to do work adequately. Thus, this paper aims to control the angular speed of a dc motor as the output driving an inertia load and varying the input applied voltage using a discrete canonical implemented phase-lead controller. The paper focuses on the performance and stability of the system to get desired response by reducing peak overshoots, getting less settling time, and attaining a small steady-state error. The system controller is first implemented in the Laplace domain and then converted to the discrete form using the bilinear transform method. The design achieves a good steady-state behavior resulting in meeting the overall design requirements.

Introducing design for selective laser melting in aerospace industry

The selective laser melting (SLM) process has created new possibilities for the manufacture of new lightweight jet engine components with lattice structures replacing solid sections. Hopes are to reduce the density of the component and thereby saving weight. To introduce the new manufacturing process, the components need to be redesigned and verified to comply with an array of requirements concerning, for example, strength, aerodynamics, and manufacturing. To find out how a capability of designing and evaluating components for the SLM process can be built into an organization, an interview investigation has been conducted at an aerospace company finding the state of practice in technology and product development. The impact of introducing SLM is thereafter estimated. The result is that introducing a novel manufacturing process will primarily influence the methods used to predict product lifecycle performance. An important finding is that it is currently difficult to include a topology optimization step in the multiobjective design evaluation environment used at the company due to which the complexity would increase significantly.
