        『향대기람(香臺紀覽)』 기록에 투영된 일제시대 대만(臺灣)의 모습

        대만은 한국과 가까우면서도 먼 나라다. 역사적으로나 지리적으로도 두 나라는 밀접한 관계가 있다. 한국과 같이 동아시아에 위치하고 있는 대만은 조선에서 벌어진 동학운동(東學運動) 때문에 청일전쟁의 패전 대가로 1895년에 일본에 할양되었다. 한국 또한 15년 후 1910년에 일본의 군사적 압박에 못 이겨 한일합병조약을 맺어 대만과 같이 일본의 식민통치를 받게 되었다. 이러한 일본의 장기적 식민통치로 인해 대만에는 간접적으로 대만과 중국 사이에 민족적·정치적·사상적 괴리현상을 불러일으켰으며, 한국에는 남북분단의 직접적인 원인이 되었다. 이러한 복잡한 역사에 얽힌 두 나라는 한류열풍을 계기로 경제, 문화 등 다방면에서 교류를 하고 있다. 양국 통계자료에 따르면 한국은 대만의 6번째 대만은 한국의 7번째 무역 상대국이다. 그러나 이러한 활발한 교류에도 불구하고 대만과 한국 양국은 서로에 대한 이해와 연구가 턱없이 부족한 것이 현실이다. 최근 정치, 경제, 문화, 언어 등의 분야에서 비교적 많은 비교 연구가 이뤄져 그간의 연구 공백을 어느 정도 채운 것으로 보인다. 그런데 시간을 좀 더 거슬러 올라가 일제시대에 있었던 대만과 한국 양국 교류에 대한 연구는 아직까지 만족스러운 연구 성과가 없다. 이 중에서도 특히 민간 교류에 관한 연구는 유난히 드물다. 양국의 교류는 날로 빈번하고 긴밀해지는 이 시점에 연구의 폭을 확대하는 것이 시급하다고 생각된다. 『향대기람(香臺紀覽)』이란 책은 공성학(孔聖學)을 비롯한 일제시대 조선의 개성상인들이 대만, 홍콩을 유람하면서 기록한 시문이다. 9일간의 대만 관광은 가장 북쪽인 기륭(基隆)부터 가장 남쪽인 아란비(鵝란鼻)까지 대만 서부지방의 유명한 관광명소와 당시의 현대시설을 유람하는 것으로 이루어져 있다. 일기 형식의 기록문은 관광 일정의 날짜, 시간, 교통수단, 숙박시설, 견문 등을 대부분 망라하여 자세히 기록한 덕분에 그 당시의 실제 상황을 상상하고 복원할 수 있게 한다. 흥에 겨워 지은 시문 또한 마음 속에 감춰 놓았던 감회를 여실히 반영하였다. 따라서 이 책은 공식적이 아닌 민간적인 입장, 자국인이 아닌 외국인 시각으로 바라본 일제시대 대만에서의 양국 교류 현장을 연구할 때 가장 소중하고 적합한 자료라고 생각된다. 이 연구는 1920년대에서 1930년대를 중심으로 조선의 상인들이 대만을 관광하면서 남긴 『향대기람』을 통해 그 당시 대만의 사회적·문화적·정치적 양상을 복원하고 기록에 깔려 있는 의미를 찾아내는 데 그 목적을 두었다. 이에 1장에서 본 연구의 필요성과 한계를 밝혔다. 2장에서는 조선 사람이 대만에 가진 인식을 소개하고 공성학 일행의 대만 방문 동기를 찾아냈다. 그리고 공성학이 소속된 개성상인 집단과 미쓰이(三井)회사의 정체를 밝힌 후 둘 사이의 밀착한 관계를 해명했다. 3장에서 대만의 실태를 재현하기 위해 동화적 의미를 가진 관광지와 이국적인 경치를 통해 표면적인 모습을 구성한 후 다시 그 속에서 내포된 의미를 발굴했다. 동시에 조선과 대만 사이에 존재하는 역사적·문화적 연계를 찾아내 지금까지 대만과 한국의 민간교류 사이의 공백을 채우려고 노력했다. 4장에서는 연구 내용을 정리하고 남은 과제를 제출하면서 마무리를 지었다. The relationship between Taiwan and Korea is very intimate regardless of the location or the overview of history. Recently, due to the Korean Wave and the increasing numbers of visitors and the trade between them, it shows the familiarity of their interactions. But when we look up the studies of the history of interactions between Taiwan and Korea, there are seldom scholars interested in the interactions of the history and culture between Taiwan and Korea except for just few professors interested in politics, economics, etc. Under this circumstance, I try to collect related historical materials of the interactions between them but find out that almost all documents are all aimed on modern times and the contents of them are almost official. For this phenomenon, I doubt that the interactions of Taiwan and Korea in the past years are all limited in the official way. Is it possible that there is no any form of folk interactions between them? So the study focuses on finding out new historical materials to rediscover the scene of the interactions at that times and discussing the hidden meaning of the documents. This book 『Travel in Hong Kong and Taiwan』 records the course of Kong Seong-Hak, Kong Seong-Gu, Son Bong-Sang, who are the businessmen at Kaeseong city in the Joseon Dynasty in 1928, visiting Hong Kong and Taiwan through the Mitsui Company for investigating the selling distribution of red ginseng. It could be replenished the insufficiency of the official records and show the complete situations in Taiwan during the Japanese colonial period by the point of view of folk people and foreigners in this book. The study has four chapters. The first chapter gives a simple introduction of the background, purposes and extent of this study. The second chapter is aimed to discuss the motivation of visiting Taiwan, explaining the development of the Joseon business groups, and the reason of cooperation with Mitsui Company by knowing a basic impression of Joseon people to Taiwan. The third chapter separates scenic spots in the route to two parts:one is for those scenic spots which have assimilative meaning, and the other one is for exotic scenic spots which are totally different from Joseon. In these two parts, there is subdivision for visiting Japanese shrine, Koxinga Shrine which enshrines Zheng Cheng-Gong, and the bamboo which symbolizes an auspicious sign in one part; there is subdivision for the life style of aboriginal people, beautiful scenic spots in Mountain A-li, and the Matsu belief of Taiwan people, etc. in the other one part. In addition to rebuilding the real situations in Taiwan at that times, I find out the hidden meaning behind the words in the records of visiting Taiwan interactions to recover the historical emptiness of folk interactions between Taiwan and Korea by using these historical materials to interconnect the interactions of them in the past years. The fourth chapter is the review, the conclusion, and the questions for further study.

        Pathological Lesions and Inducible Nitric Oxide Synthase Expressions in the Liver of Mice Experimentally Infected with Clonorchis sinensis

        The nitric oxide (NO) formation and intrinsic nitrosation may be involved in the possible mechanisms of liver fluke-associated carcinogenesis. We still do not know much about the responses of inducible NO synthase (iNOS) induced by Clonorchis sinensis infection. This study was conducted to explore the pathological lesions and iNOS expressions in the liver of mice with different infection intensity levels of C. sinensis. Extensive periductal inflammatory cell infiltration, bile duct hyperplasia, and fibrosis were commonly observed during the infection. The different pathological responses in liver tissues strongly correlated with the infection intensity of C. sinensis. Massive acute spotty necrosis occurred in the liver parenchyma after a severe infection. The iNOS activity in liver tissues increased, and iNOS-expressing cells with morphological differences were observed after a moderate or severe infection. The iNOS-expressing cells in liver tissues had multiple origins.

        Asymmetric Bioconversion of Acetophenone in Nano-Sized Emulsion Using Rhizopus oryzae

        The fungal morphologies and pellet sizes were controlled in acetophenone reduction by Rhizopus oryzae. The acetophenone conversion and (S)-phenylethanol enantiomeric excesses (e.e.) reached the peak after 72 h of incubation when using pellets with 0.54 mm diameter, which showed an excellent performance compared with suspended mycelia, clumps, and pellets with 0.65 or 0.75 mm diameter. Furthermore, nano-sized acetophenone was used as asubstrate to improve the performances of biotransformation work. The results showed that the conversion of nanometric acetophenone and (S)-phenylethanol e.e. reached the maximum (both >99%) after 32 h of incubation when using 0.54 mm diameter pellets, at least 24 h in advance of the control group. On the other hand, Tween 80 and 1, 2-propylene glycol showed low or no toxicity to cells. In conclusion, pellets and acetophenone nanoemulsions synergistically result in superior performances of acetophenone reduction.

        Characteristics Comparison before and after Lyophilization of Transferrin Modified Procationic-Liposome-Protamine-DNA Complexes (Tf-PLPD)

        A novel non-viral gene delivery system, Procationic-Liposome-Protamine-DNA complexes (PLPD) which could further adsorb transferrin on the surface as a targeting ligand to form Tf- PLPD, was prepared and characterized before and after lyophilization. The size distribution of Tf-PLPD was in the range of 240 ± 12 nm and the zeta potential was -24.10 ± 2.5 mV. The transfection efficiencies of PLPD and Tf-PLPD were 12.18 ± 3.8 and 24.26 ± 2.6 mU β-galactosidase/ mg protein respectively. The lyophilization and the presence of serum didn’t affect the tansfectivities of PLPD or Tf-PLPD. Compared to LipofectamineTM 2000 (Invitrogen, U.S.A.), the procationic liposomes had less cytotoxicity to cells. In summary the procationic lipoplex described here, combining the condensing effect of protamine and the targeting capability of Tf, was a perspective non-viral vector for gene delivery system.

        Increased accumulation of anthocyanins in transgenic potato tubers by overexpressing the 3GT gene

        In order to explore a biotechnological method for improving potato tuber color and creating plants with increased anthocyanin contents, a potato UDP-glucose: flavonoid-3-O-glucosyltransferase (3GT) gene was inserted behind the GBSSI promoter of pBin19, and this construct was introduced into Solanum tuberosum L. cultivar De´sire´e plants by Agrobacterium-mediated transformation. Six independent transgenic lines overexpressing the 3GT gene were identified by PCR and Southern blot analysis from 18 kanamycin-resistant plants. Due to the expression of 3GT gene, the tuber color and the anthocyanin content were enhanced noticeably in the transgenic plants compared to the wild-type control plants. This result suggests that the 3GT gene can potentially be used to improve potato color and enhance levels of antioxidants in the diet.

        Experimental Study on Shear Transfer Performance of Uncracked Monolithic Steel Fiber Concrete

        Shear transfer performance at interface of steel fiber reinforced concrete (SFRC) is of great importance that many factors influence the shear transfer performance of SFRC such as concrete strength and aggregate interlock, reinforcement dowel action and steel fiber. Many studies have focused on part of the factors. The shear transfer performance of uncracked monolithic SFRC is studied in this paper by considering the combined effects of cohesion, clamping stress, confined stress, reinforcement, and steel fiber. Thus, this study presents a series of direct shear tests by Z-type push-off specimens. The direct shear strength, failure mode and failure process of plain SFRC and reinforced SFRC are studied, and their shear stress-slip and shear stress-crack width responses of the tested specimens are obtained. Test results showed that reinforcement and steel fibers can improve the ductile behavior and shear strength of the shear interface simultaneously. And shear stress-slip and –crack curves of the test specimens with those combined effects are strongly nonlinear. Finally, based on the existing shear strength calculation model and the test results of this paper, a shear transfer calculation formula of SFRC interface is proposed and verified according to the Mohr Coulomb failure criteria.

        Angelica sinensis Supercritical Fluid CO2 Extract Attenuates D-Galactose-Induced Liver and Kidney Impairment in Mice by Suppressing Oxidative Stress and Inflammation

        Angelica sinensis (AS, Danggui in Chinese) is an important herbal component of various traditional formulae for the management of asthenia and its tonic effects. Although AS has been shown to ameliorate cognitive damage and nerve toxicity in D-galactose (D-gal)-elicited senescent mice brain, its effects on liver and kidney injury have not yet been explored. In this work, mice were subjected to hypodermic injection with D-gal (200 mg/kg) and orally gavaged with AS (20, 40, or 80 mg/kg) once a day for 8 successive weeks. Results revealed that AS significantly improved liver and kidney function as assessed by organ index and functional parameters. In addition, AS pretreatment effectively ameliorated the histological deterioration. AS attenuated the MDA level and markedly enhanced the activities and gene expressions of antioxidative enzymes, namely Cu, Zn-SOD, CAT, and GPx. Furthermore, AS markedly inhibited the D-gal-mediated increment of expressions of inflammatory cytokines iNOS, COX-2, IκBα, p-IκBα, and p65 and promoted the IκBα expression level in both hepatic and renal tissues. In sum, AS pretreatment could effectively guard the liver and kidney of mice from D-gal-induced injury, and the underlying mechanism was deemed to be intimately related to attenuating oxidative response and inflammatory stress.
