Influence of Blanching and Drying Air Temperature on Drying Kinetics of Banana Slices

        Kumar Ravi,Pandey Om Prakash,Dhiman Sushil Kumar,Kumar Prashant 한국농업기계학회 2021 바이오시스템공학 Vol.46 No.4

Purpose Drying of agro products, analternative approach to truncate the post harvesting losses which is about 40%in case of banana as reported in literatures, is conducted for banana slicesusing tray dryer. The objective was to investigate the effect of blanching and dryingtemperature on drying kinetics of banana slices for which a comparative studyof the drying kinetics of the bananaslices under blanching and without blanching conditions was conducted. Methods The samples were made circularin shape with average diameter of 30mm and 2mm thickness. Drying was done atair velocity of 3ms-1 maintained at three different temperatures of60oC, 70oC and 80oC. Blanching of banana sliceswas done in an aqueous solution of citricacid for 1 minute. Results Comprison of blanching andwithout blancing samples was done based on drying kinetics, color, energy analysis, andcost analysis to optimize the drying conditions and reduce the process cost. Two thin layer drying models werefitted to the experimental data using nonlinear regression analysis and theresults were evaluated using statistical parameter. The significant effects ofdrying temperature, drying time and blanching on moisture content of bananaslices were analyzed by ANOVA (Analysis of Variance). Conclusions The blanchingtechnique was found as cost-effective dryingprocess as compared to the without blanching technique.

      • Reclassification of Bacillus beijingensis Qiu et al. 2009 and Bacillus ginsengi Qiu et al. 2009 as Bhargavaea beijingensis comb. nov. and Bhargavaea ginsengi comb. nov. and emended description of the genus Bhargavaea

Verma, Pankaj,Pandey, Prashant Kumar,Gupta, Arvind Kumar,Seong, Chi Nam,Park, Seong Chan,Choe, Han Na,Baik, Keun Sik,Patole, Milind Shivaji,Shouche, Yogesh Shreepad Microbiology Society 2012 International journal of systematic and evolutiona Vol.62 No.10

<P>We have carried out a polyphasic taxonomic characterization of <I>Bacillus beijingensis</I> DSM 19037T and <I>Bacillus ginsengi</I> DSM 19038T, which are closely related phylogenetically to <I>Bhargavaea cecembensis</I> LMG 24411T. All three strains are Gram-stain-positive, non-motile, moderately halotolerant and non-spore-forming. 16S rRNA gene sequence analyses showed that the strains constituted a coherent cluster, with sequence similarities between 99.7 and 98.7 %. The percentage similarity on the basis of amino acid sequences deduced from partial <I>gyrB</I> gene nucleotide sequences of these three type strains was 96.1-92.7 %. Phylogenetic trees based on the 16S rRNA gene and GyrB amino acid sequences, obtained by using three different algorithms, were consistent and showed that these three species constituted a deeply rooted cluster separated from the clades represented by the genera <I>Bacillus</I>, <I>Planococcus</I>, <I>Planomicrobium</I>, <I>Sporosarcina</I>, <I>Lysinibacillus</I>, <I>Viridibacillus</I>, <I>Kurthia</I> and <I>Geobacillus</I>, supporting their placement in the genus <I>Bhargavaea</I>. All three type strains have menaquinone MK-8 as the major respiratory quinone and showed similar fatty acid profiles. The main polar lipids present in the three type strains were diphosphatidylglycerol and phosphatidylglycerol, and the three strains showed peptidoglycan type A4α with l-lysine as the diagnostic diamino acid. The DNA G<I>+</I>C contents of <I>Bacillus beijingensis</I> DSM 19037T, <I>Bacillus ginsengi</I> DSM 19038T and <I>Bhargavaea cecembensis</I> LMG 24411T were 53.1, 50.2 and 53.7 mol%, respectively. The level of DNA-DNA hybridization among the three strains was 57-39 %, indicating that they are members of different species of the genus <I>Bhargavaea</I>. The phenotypic data are consistent with the placement of these three species in a single genus and support their differentiation at the species level. On the basis of these data, we have emended the description of the genus <I>Bhargavaea</I> and propose the reclassification of <I>Bacillus beijingensis</I> and <I>Bacillus ginsengi</I> to the genus <I>Bhargavaea</I>, as <I>Bhargavaea beijingensis</I> comb. nov. (type strain ge10T = DSM 19037T = CGMCC 1.6762T) and <I>Bhargavaea ginsengi</I> comb. nov. (type strain ge14T = DSM 19038T = CGMCC 1.6763T).</P>

Bhargavaea indica sp. nov., a Member of the Phylum Firmicutes, Isolated from Arabian Sea Sediment

        Pankaj Verma,성치남,Prashant Kumar Pandey,Ramesh Ramchandra Bhonde,Cathrin Spröer,Manfred Rohde,Yogesh Shreepad Shouche 한국미생물학회 2013 The journal of microbiology Vol.51 No.1

A Gram-positive, aerobic, coccoid-rod shaped, non-motile, catalase- and oxidase-positive bacterium, designated strain KJW98T, was isolated from the marine sediment of Karwar jetty, west coast of India. The strain was β-haemolytic, nonendospore-forming and grew with 0–8.5% (w/v) NaCl, at 15–48°C and at pH 6.5–9.0, with optimum growth with 0.5% (w/v) NaCl, at 42°C and at pH 7.0–8.0. Phylogenetic analyses based on 16S rRNA and gyrB gene sequences showed that strain KJW98T forms a lineage within the genus Bhargavaea. The G+C content of the genomic DNA was 55 mol%. The DNA–DNA relatedness values of strain KJW98T with B. beijingensis DSM 19037T, B. cecembensis LMG 24411T and B. ginsengi DSM 19038T were 43.2, 39 and 26.5%, respectively. The major fatty acids were anteiso-C15:0 (37.7%), iso-C15:0 (19.7%), anteiso-C17:0 (17.0%) and iso-C16:0 (11.1%). The predominant menaquinone was MK-8 and the cell-wall peptidoglycan was of A4α type with L-lysine as the diagnostic diamino acid. The major polar lipids were diphosphatidylglycerol and phosphatidylglycerol. The phenotypic, genotypic and DNA–DNA relatedness data indicate that strain KJW98T should be distinguished from the members of the genus Bhargavaea, for which the name Bhargavaea indica sp. nov. is proposed with the type strain KJW98T (=KCTC 13583T=LMG 25219T).

Generalized anxiety and sleep quality among health care professionals during the COVID-19 pandemic: a cross-sectional study from a tertiary healthcare institution in Eastern India

Bijaya Nanda Naik,Sanjay Pandey,Rajath Rao,Manisha Verma,Prashant Kumar Singh 질병관리본부 2022 Osong Public Health and Research Persptectives Vol.13 No.1

Objectives: With the emergence of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, healthcare professionals (HCPs) have experienced high levels of stress and anxiety because of the high risk of infection for themselves and their families. This has led to acute sleep problems for HCP. This study was designed to assess the anxiety and sleep quality of HCPs during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: This cross-sectional study analyzed 370 HCPs employed at All India Institute of Medical Sciences Patna over 3 months, using the standard Generalized Anxiety Disorder 7-item scale (GAD-7) for suspected GAD and the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index for sleep quality. Results were tabulated and multivariable binomial logistic regression analysis was done to determine the predictors of poor sleep. Significance was attributed to p < 0.05. Results: Of the 370 HCPs screened, 52 (14.1%; 95% confidence interval [CI], 10.8%–18.1%) were found to have GAD and 195 (52.7%; 95% CI, 47.5%–57.9%) were found to be poor sleepers. The presence of any addictive habit (adjusted odds ratio [AOR], 1.833; 95% CI, 1.12–2.8), unprotected contact with COVID-19 cases (AOR, 1.902; 95% CI, 1.1–3.3), and the presence of GAD (AOR, 5.57; 95% CI, 2.5–12.4) were found to be predictors of poor sleep quality among HCPs. Conclusion: A significant proportion of HCPs were found to have suspected GAD and were poor sleepers. This highlights the need for measures to confront this problem.

A Dynamic-SUGPDS Model for Faults Detection and Isolation of Underground Power Cable Based on Detection and Isolation Algorithm and Smart Sensors

Rajpoot Sharad Chandra,Pandey Chanki,Rajpoot Prashant Singh,Singhai Sanjay Kumar,Sethy Prabira Kumar 대한전기학회 2021 Journal of Electrical Engineering & Technology Vol.16 No.4

This paper proposes a SUGPDS model based on Detection and Isolation algorithm and smart sensors, namely micro phasor measurement unit, smart sensing and switching device, phasor data concentrator, and ZigBee technology, etc. for the identifi cation, classifi cation, and isolation of the various fault occurs in the underground power cable in the distribution system. The proposed SUGPDS is a quick and smart tool in supervising, managing, and controlling various faults and issues and maintaining the reliability, stability, and uninterrupted fl ow of electricity. First, the SUGPDS model is analyzed using a distributed parameter approach. Then, the proper arrangement of the system required for the implantation of SUGPDS is demonstrated using fi gures. The Phasor data concentrator plays an essential role in developing the detection and classifi cation report for identifi cation and classifi cation. Finally, smart sensing and switching device installed at a diff erent location isolated the faulty phase from a healthy network. This approach helps to decrease power consumption. Hence, SUGPDS has super abilities compared to the underground power distribution system. The eff ectiveness of the proposed method and model is demonstrated via fi gures and tables
