In July 2013 The Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) approved an unprecedented merger between Bell Canada Enterprises (Bell Media) and Astral Media. Bell Media, a telecommunications giant, bought Astral’s radio, television and outdoor advertising properties for $3.8 Billion (CAD) in Canada’s largest ever purchase of legacy media by any company. To meet strict ownership regulations Bell Media would auction ten popular English radio stations while gaining several new stations in French speaking Canada from Astral, a key motivation behind the takeover strategy. The deal met plenty of resistance, first from incumbent broadcasters and eventually by the CRTC, who shut down Bell Media’s first application on the grounds that the transaction was not in the interest of Canadians. Bell Media significantly restructured their second proposal to include substantial benefits to Canadian radio and the broadcasting industry as a whole, pleasing both regulators. The merger confirms the coveted position that traditional content represents in a highly unstable and unpredictable digital media environment.
Smart Crops Irrigation System with Low Energy Consumption

The COVID-19 preventive measurements restrict farm-workers from travel to their farms, social distancing and lockdown to prevent them from getting infected. Consequently, farming and irrigation activities are dramatically reduced due to shortage of farm-workers and reduction of crops production. To find solutions, various technologies have been adopted to remotely connect farmers with their farm-fields from their homes and perform the same work as they are in the farm. An Internet of Things (IoT) approach, modern sensor technologies, and smart irrigation equipment are coupled to allow the collection of the field data for automatic irrigation of the field. This paper presents the IoT system based on Fuzzy logic controller that assists farmers to receive and monitor necessary irrigation data from the farm field through their smart phones and PCs. The Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) are deployed in the field to measure the water content in the soil and water used for plants by measuring the soil moisture dynamics throughout the entire duration of the crop growing sea- son in the Maize crop farm. The Fuzzy logic controller was used for data analytics and intelligent decision making as well as Fuzzy logic toolbox in MATLAB to simulate irrigation scheduling process. The system saves 50% of water and energy consumption for irrigation, 80% reduction of farm-workers and increase in 20% of crop production.

We report a case of Hashimoto encephalopathy initially presented as a drug-resistant depression with predominant apathy and asthenia, successfully treated with cyclophosphamide. We suspected that the psychiatric symptoms were due to a deficit in neurotransmitter synthesis related to immune activation. We hypothesized that the immunomodulatory treatment helped to restore the neurotransmitter synthesis and thus decreased the patient’s depressive symptoms. In this case report we propose an innovative model in which immunity might disturbs neurotransmitters synthesis leading to depressive symptoms.

Objective The conduct of a medical interview is a challenging skill, even for the most qualified physicians. Since a training is needed to acquire the necessary skills to conduct an interview with a patient, we compared role-play with standardized patients (SP) training and a conventional lecture for the acquisition of communications skills in undergraduate medical students. Methods An entire promotion of third year undergraduate medical students, who never received any lessons about communications skills, were randomized into 4 arms: 1) SP 2 months before the testing of medical communications skills (SP); 2) conventional lecture 2 months before the testing (CL); 3) two control groups (CG) without any intervention, tested either at the beginning of the study or two months later. Students were blindly assessed by trained physicians with a modified 17-items Calgary-Cambridge scale. Results 388 students (98.7%) participated. SP performed better than CL, with significant statistical differences regarding 5 skills: the use of open and closed questions, encouraging patient responses, inviting the patient to clarify the missing items, encouraging of the patient’s emotions, and managing the time and the conduct of the interview. The SP group specifically improved communications skills between the SP training and testing sessions regarding 2 skills: the use of open and closed questions and encouraging patient responses. No improvements in communications skills were observed in CG between the two time points, ruling out a possible time effect. Conclusion Role-play with standardized patients appears more efficient than conventional lecture to acquire communication skills in undergraduate medical students.
Paul Nougé : Surrealist Poetry as Art

In this article, I study the work of surrealist poet Paul Nougé, a major figure of the movement in Belgium. I stress first the interdisciplinary nature of this work, by showing that it always entails a thorough reflection on the visual dimension of language. I compare then the spirit of Nougé’s poetry with that of Duchamp’s art. Both shared a passion for the game of chess, but beyond that, they also rejected the supremacy of labor and productivity in the creative process of the avant-garde. Moreover, they both emphasized the speculative identity of this creative process, which is defined by chance and the power of the idea. Finally, I analyze the original metaphors of reading in Nougé’s work, which are represented in some of my own photographs.

Ferritins isolated from the hemolymph of the chiton Acanthopleura hirtosa and the limpet Patella laticostata have been studied by ^57Fe Mossbauer spectroscopy, electron diffraction, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and inductively coupled plasma(ICP) spectrometry. Mossbauer spectra of the samples at 78 K were quadrupole-split doublets with similar quadrupole splittings and chemical isomer shifts, characteristic of octahedral high-spin iron(III), while at 4.2K the spectra were magnetically split sextests. The spectra yield mean superparamagnetic blocking temperatures of about 32 and 30 K for the A. hirtosa and P. laticostata ferritins, respectively, and indicate magnetic ordering temperatures of about 37 and 34 K. Core size distributions were measured for both the A. hirtosa and P. laticostata ferritins by using TEM and gave mean core size ranges of 8.0-8.5 and 7.5-8.0 nm, respectively. Diffuse lines in the electron diffraction patterns of the ferritin cores indicated the presence of ferrihydrite(5Fe_2-O_3·9H_2O) of limited crystallinity. Phosphorus to iron atomic ratios were measured by ICP spectrometry. The phosphorus levels were close to the limit of detection, giving approximate mean values of D:Fe of 1:44 for the P. laticostata ferritin and 1:36 for the A. hirtosa ferritin. These levels of phosphate are significantly less than those for the crystalline cores of mammalian ferritins and considerably less than those for the noncrystalline core of bacterioferritins.
