An in vivo electromyographic evaluation of pain relief using different therapies in masticatory myalgia patients

        Parvathi K,Balakrishnan,Sowmya M,Kumar,Purushotham Chippala,Chethan Hegde 대한구강악안면외과학회 2020 대한구강악안면외과학회지 Vol.46 No.5

Objectives: This study is aimed to evaluate and compare the effect of moist heat fomentation therapy with ultrasound therapy in patients with the masticatory myalgia. Materials and Methods: The study was conducted on 42 patients with masticatory myalgia, dividing them into two groups; Group A (21 patients), received moist heat therapy and Group B (21 patients), received ultrasound therapy for seven effective days. Prior and after the treatment the numeric rating scale (NRS) and the electromyography (EMG) scores were recorded and compared. The observations were analyzed clinically and statistical support was taken to assess the NRS and EMG data. Results: Irrespective of the groups, patients testified a significant reduction in pain after the treatment. From the EMG readings; even though the standard deviation for each group was varied considerably, EMG recorded an improved muscle activity. Statistical analysis was used to assess and identify the best treatment methodology between the two modalities. Conclusion: From the statistical analysis, it is concluded that, though both the therapies had significantly reduced the symptomatic response, it is moist heat fomentation that improved muscle activity both statistically and clinically in comparison to ultrasound.

1, 25-(OH)2D3 protects against ER stress and miRNA dysregulation in Mus musculus neurons

        Jayachandran Parvathy,Koshy Linda,Sudhakaran Perumana R.,Nair Govindapillai Mohanadasan,Gangaprasad Appukuttan Nair,Nair Ananthakrishnan Jayakumaran 한국유전학회 2022 Genes & Genomics Vol.44 No.12

Background: The pathophysiology of neurodegenerative diseases (NDDs) is closely associated with cellular oxidative stress which can result in the accumulation of toxic proteins in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) leading to ER stress and subsequent unfolded protein response (UPR) signaling, a mechanism that aggravate these disorders. Vitamin D has been suggested to have important neuroprotective role and its administration has been shown to reduce neuronal injury, neurotoxicity and oxidative stress in various animal systems. Objective: The current study was undertaken to examine the effect of vitamin D3 on UPR in ER stress induced Mus musculus neuronal cells. Methods: Mus musculus cortical and hippocampal primary neuronal cultures were pretreated with 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 (1, 25-(OH)2D3), the active form of vitamin D, followed by ER stress induction with a chemical ER stress inducer thapsigargin and with an advanced glycated protein, AGE-BSA. The UPR genes and related microRNAs (miRNA) expressions were analyzed mainly using real-time PCR. Results: The experiment resulted in the suppression of ER stress marker BiP and UPR pathway genes such as Perk, Ire1α, Chop and Puma which mediate cellular apoptosis indicating the protective effect of 1, 25-(OH)2D3 against neuronal ER stress. Further studies into the molecular aspects showed that ER stress mediated down-regulated expression of microRNAs (miRNAs) such as mmu-miR-24, 27b, 124, 224, 290, 351 and 488 which are known to regulate the UPR pathway genes were also reduced with vitamin pretreatment, of which the miRNAs miR-24 and 27b which shares the same cluster are potentially involved in various human diseases. Conclusion: This study emphasizes the therapeutic role of vitamin D in reducing neuronal ER stress and the need for maintaining sufficient amount of this vitamin in our diet.

A Brief Review on Variables and Test Priorities of Photovoltaic Module Life Expectancy

        Siva Parvathi Padi,Sanchari Chowdhury,Muhammad Aleem Zahid,Jaeun Kim,Eun-Chel Cho,Junsin Yi 한국태양광발전학회 2021 Current Photovoltaic Research Vol.9 No.2

To endorse the reliability and durability of the solar photovoltaic (PV) device several tests were conducted before exposing to the outdoor field in a non-ideal condition. The PV module has high probability that intend to perform adequately for 30 years under operating conditions. To evaluate the long term performance of the PV module in diversified terrestrial conditions, one should use the outdoor performance data. However, no one wants to wait for 25 years to determine the module reliability. The accelerating stress tests performing in the laboratory by mimicking different field conditions are thus important to understand the performance of a PV module. In this review, we will discuss briefly about different accelerating stress types, levels and prioritization that are used to evaluate the PV module reliability and durability before using them in real field.

Nanoscale SiOx Tunnel Oxide Deposition Techniques and Their Infl uence on Cell Parameters of TOPCon Solar Cells

Siva Parvathi Padi,Muhammad Quddamah Khokhar,Sanchari Chowdhury,조은철,이준신 한국전기전자재료학회 2021 Transactions on Electrical and Electronic Material Vol.22 No.5

The main goal of solar cell technology is to attain high efficiency, long durability, mass-production, cost-effectiveness, and made with eco-friendly materials. Among the various crystalline silicon solar cell technologies, Tunneling Oxide Passivated Contact (TOPCon) solar cell has its unique style in terms of the structure and carrier transport manner, which predominately decreases the metal contact recombination and gives 1-D carrier transport. A very high efficiency of 26% for TOPCon solar cells has been achieved with the industrial screen print technology and obtained high cell parameter values of V oc and fill factor as 732.3 mV and 84.3% respectively. The tunnel oxide thickness (maintaining < 2 nm) in the TOPCon has its prior impact on the efficiency and electrical parameters of the cell. To obtain the preferable thickness of the tunnel oxide layer various deposition techniques have been reported in the literature. SiOx is the most widely used tunnel oxide material for TOPCon solar cells to date. In this review, different deposition methods that were used for the SiOx tunnel oxide layer such as chemical oxidation, ozone oxidation, thermal oxidation, and plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD) are elaborated. Moreover, the effect of the deposition conditions on the cell parameters in different techniques are also discussed briefly. Furthermore, the development of TOPCon solar cells and the latest reports that were used diff erent tunnel oxide materials in finding an alternative to SiOx tunnel oxide is discussed.

Strengthening Steel Members with Holes Under Tension Using Unidirectional GFRP Sheets

        E. Parvathi,Mahadevan Lakshmanan,K. M. Mini 한국강구조학회 2018 International Journal of Steel Structures Vol.18 No.2

Steel structure sections are often connected using bolts and rivets, which necessitates the need for holes. These holes provide a zone of failure during loading. In the present work an attempt is made to strengthen the steel members under tensile loading with hole provision for bolts, using Glass Fiber Reinforced Polymer (GFRP) sheets. The performance of FRP wrapping is assessed by changing the angle of orientation of fi ber. The experimental investigation is conducted for one hole, two hole and staggered hole arrangement and the results are compared with fi nite element analysis. The diff erence between experiment and fi nite element modeling are within allowable limits. From the study it is found that GFRP wrapping with 0° orientation of fi ber is the most suitable in terms of ultimate strength for all the three hole confi gurations.

Discovery of Stress Responsive TATA-box Binding Protein Associated Factor6 (TAF6) from Finger Millet (Eleusine coracana (L.) Gaertn)

        M. S. Parvathi,Karaba N. Nataraja 한국식물학회 2017 Journal of Plant Biology Vol.60 No.4

Drought is one of the major abiotic factors affectingplant growth mainly in the tropical regions. During stressacclimation response, basal transcriptional process is criticalwhich is coordinated by several cofactors, among which TATAboxBinding Protein (TBP) - Associated Factors (TAFs) are themajor proteins involved in pre-initiation complex assembly. Insearch of novel transcriptional regulators, we identified one ofthe factors, TAF6, in a drought cDNA library generated from anadapted crop, finger millet (Eleusine coracana (L.) Gaertn). RTPCRanalysis in leaf tissues of finger millet experiencingdifferent levels of drought, revealed its stress responsiveness inthree different genotypes. The gene is also induced under salt, osmotic and oxidative stresses at seedling stage. Analysis of itspromoter in model plants indicated the presence of cis-elementsassociated with diverse stress responses. Down regulation ofNbTAF6 by virus induced gene silencing (VIGS) approachresulted in a developmentally defective and stress sensitivephenotype in Nicotiana benthamiana. This is the first report onthe up-regulation of EcTAF6 under abiotic stresses and the geneprobably has a crucial role in safeguarding the stress relatedtranscription process. The basal regulators like TAF6 can thus beconsidered as prospective candidates associated with stressacclimation in plants.
