        Animal husbandry in Korea has made a remarkable progress during the last two decades, and domestic animal population is expected to be doubled in 2000's Without any major changes in international trade policy of the Government. Under such circumstances, substantial part of efforts and researches on the improvement of quality of animal products should also he placed to meet public demands. Current epidemic status of animal diseases in Korea shows that 2 diseases(Newcastle disease and hog cholera) are endemic in the field among 16 kinds of OIE list A diseases, and 32 diseases are recognized among 95 kinds of list B diseases, respectively. Therefore it is very important to formulate a consolidated strategy for protection of domestic animal industries from possible introduction of foreign or exotic diseases. In addition, systemic disease control measeures and policy should be practiced to eradicate the major diseases causing economic losses by improvement of field sanitation, diagnostic and disease preventive technology. To meet international open trade policy initiated from UR round agreement, it is expected that the veterinary frameworks would be reorganized to accomodate for effective disease control from 1992 in the scheme of the 7th economic development plan. and subsequently the Government input also must be extended to support the small scale domestic animal industries. Meanwhile it is imperative to recognize that farmers and producers should make every effort not only to increase the productivity but also to provide the safe products for consumers by practicing the sanitary farming and hygienic processing technology. In order to accomplish a good farming system, it is essential to connect the cooperative disease control systems organized by the Government, cooperatives and individual farmer in the near future. In addition, advanced diagnostic and prophylactic technology and disease control measures will be inevitably utilized to support the system. This paper described possible amendment of current veterinary structures and animal disease prevention acts, and also presented new strategy for the effective disease control measures in 2000's.

      • Nb-1%Zr, Nb-5%Zr 합금에서 Zirconium과 탄소의 상호작용 및 표면분정

        Nb-1% Zr, Nb-5% Zr 합금에서 지르코니움과 탄소의 상호작용 및 표면분정현상을 아르곤 이온종을 부착한 Auger 전자분광기로 연구했다. 고순도(99.996%)니오비움 다결정은 대부분의 탄소와 산소로 크게 부식되어 있었으며, 니오비움 다결정 내부에 함유된 탄소의 화학적 결합상태도 탄화물, 석묵 두가지 상태로 나타났다. 고순도 니오비움 다결정에 소량의 지르코니움(1%, 5%)을 첨가해서 만든 Nb-Zr 합금표면은 화학적으로 안정한 지르코니움 탄화물로 덮혀있고, 그 두께가 약 10Å정도임을 Auger분광자료로 밝혀냈고, 여기에 나타난 지르코니움, 탄소는 Nb-Zr 합금에서 표면 분정된 사실도 밝혀냈다. Nb-Zr 합금을 점진적으로 온도를 올려가면서, 지르코니움이 표면 분정된 양을 측정한 결과 지르코니움은 1300℃ 근방에서 산소는 1100℃ 근방에서 가장 많이 표면분정됨을 알았다. 이상의 실험결과로 탄소 산소로 크게 부식되어 있는 니오비움 다결정에 소량의 지르코니움(1%, 5%)를 첨가하므로서 탄소 산소의 부식을 크게 줄일 수 있음을 알았다. Auger electron spectrosopcy has been used in conjunction with argon ion sputtering in a study of the surface segregation and interaction of carbon with zirconium in Nb-Zr alloys. The result of depth profiling with argon ion sputtering showed that the carbon coverage on the Nb-Zr alloy surfaces was significantly more than that on the Nb polycrystalline surface. The dominant part of these carbon and oxygen was due to segregation from the Nb-Zr alloys. The segregation of zirconium to the Nb-Zr alloy surfaces occured at temperature as low as 900℃ with the maximum occurring around 1100℃. While the maximum depths of zirconium and oxygen segregated from the Nb-Zr alloy at temperature 1100℃ were respectively 5Å and 15Å.

        Background : The cun measurement System, an essential and convenient method in locating acupoints, has been widely used in the practice of acupuncture. However, traditional cun measurement has been criticized for its lack of reliability. Objectives : The purposes of this study are to determine if one cun measured by the directional methods have a consistency with that of proportional methods and to investigate which factors are related with these differences, especially in forearm. Methods : The distance between the elbow crease and the wrist crease of forearm was compared to a reference value of one cun obtained by the directional method. In this method, one cun is one third of the distance between index finger and Small finger of a subject, measured at proximal interphalangeal joint. In addition, to investigate the factors influencing the differences between these two methods, we measured the height and body weight and calculated body mass index (BMI). Finally we analyzed the factors correlated with these lengths by linear regression test. Results : The results showed that one cun obtained by the directional methods were significantly different from one cun by the proportional methods in forearm. It was demonstrated that the length acquired with the directional method was more correlated with body weight and body mass index, while the length obtained by the proportional method was more correlated with the height.

        Expression of Artemisia annua terpene synthase in transgenic tobacco plants was examined. A full length cDNA encoding terpene synthase was cloned into pILTAB357 vector and transgenic tobacco plants were generated. The integration of this gene was analyzed by genomic DNA PCR and Southern blot analysis. The transcription of the terpene synthase gene in tobacco was confirmed by RT-PCR and northern blot analysis.

      • Mitomycin-C 적용시간에 따른 누낭비강연결술의 수술결과

        To determine the usefulness of application of Mitomycin-C (MMC) and effectiveness of different concentration of MMC in external DCR. A total of 100 eyes of 87 patients diagnosed with primary acquired nasolacrimal duct obstruction were assigned randomly to either a MMC group or control group. The surgical procedures in both groups were same. In MMC group, a piece of neurosurgical cottonoid soaked with 0.4 mg/ml MMC was applied to the osteotomy site and then was removed after 5 and 10 minutes differently. Nasoendoscopic examination was performed at 1 month, 3 months, and 6 months after surgery for all patients. The causes of epiphora as trauma (20 cases), failed DCR (1 case), sinus surgery (2 cases), unknown (77 cases). The overall anatomical success rate of the procedure was 88% and functional success rate was 79%. Obstruction site was related to anatomical surgical results. Anatomical surgical outcome at lower lacrimal sac level group of patients showed a statistically significant success rate, but functional surgical outcome showed no significant difference between the two groups. The anatomical success rate was 87.7% and the functional success rate was 84.2% in MMC group. The anatomical success rate was 88.3% and the functional success rate was 74.4% in control group. Application of MMC and it's application time were not related to surgical results.

        골격성 Ⅲ급 부정교합자에서 전진이부성형술을 동반한 하악 후퇴술 후 연조직 외형의 변화

        본 연구는 전진이부성형술을 동반한 하악지 시상분할골절단술을 시행한 하악 전돌증을 가진 환자에서 하안면부, 특히 이부의 경조직과 연조직의 변화를 예측하는 데 있어서, 전후관계와 수직적 계측치를 통하여, 경조직의 변화에 따른 연조직의 상대적 변화량에 대해 비교, 분석하여 한국인의 골격성 III급 부정교합자의 악교정 수술시 전진이부성형술이 연조직 외형에 미치는 영향을 알아보고자 시행하였다. 교정치료와 악교정수술을 시행한 골격성 III급 부정교합자 40명을 전진이부성형술을 시행하지 않고 하악지 시상분할골절단술만 시행한 환자 20명(BSSO group, 남자 10명, 여자 10명)과 하악지 시상분할골절단술과 동시에 전진이부성형술을 시행한 환자 20명(Genio group, 남자 10명, 여자 10명)으로 분류하여 수술 직전(T1)과 수술 직후(T2), 수술 최소 6개월 후(T3)의 측모 두부 방사선계측사진을 채득하여 계측 항목의 변화량을 분석하였다. BSSO군에서는 수술 후 경조직 B점, Pogonion, Menton에 대하여 연조직 B점, Pogonion, Menton이 각각 수평적으로 0.997, 0.965, 1.022의 변화율을 보였으며, Genio군에서는 각각 0.824, 0.602, 0.887의 수평적 변화율을 보여서, Genio군에서 연조직 B점, 연조직 Pogonion의 연조직 두께의 감소량이 더 크게 나타났다. 경조직 Pogonion(Pg)의 악교정수술 전과 후의 수평적 변화에 따른 하순의 하방점(Li), 연조직 B점(B')의 변화간의 상관관계계수는 BSSO군에서는 각각 0.833, 0.922인 반면에, Genio군에서는 각각 0.775, 0.799로 BSSO군에 비해서 상관관계가 다소 작은 것으로 나타났다. 이상의 결과에서 하악지 시상분할골절단술을 시행하는 환자에서 전진이부성형술을 동반할 경우에는 골격의 변화에 대해서 연조직의 두께 변화가 다소 적게 나타나므로 수술 시에 이를 고려하여 전진이부성형술을 시행하여야 할 것이다. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to assess the hard and soft tissue changes associated with mandibular bilateral sagittal split osteotomy and genioplasty. Methods: This is a retrospective study of 40 patients who underwent either bilateral sagittal split osteotomy for mandibular setback (BSSO group, n = 20) or in combination with advancement genioplasty (Genio group, n = 20). Lateral radiographs, were taken before and immediately after surgery, and at least 6 months after surgery. Results: Comparing hard and soft tissue changes between the BSSO group and Genio group, there were significant differences in the lower incisor, soft tissue B point (B'), and soft tissue Pogonion (Pg') (P < 0.5). The mean ratio of hard and soft tissue changes for B/B', Pg/Pg', and Menton/soft tissue Menton after surgery in the BSSO group was 0.997, 0.965, and 1.022 respectively, and 0.824, 0.602, and 0.887 respectively in the genio group. Significant differences were found between the two groups. There were significant differences in lip thickness (B-B', Pg-Pg') in the Genioplasty group between pre and postsurgery, but not in the BSSO group. Pogonion to Labrale inferior and B' had a correlation coefficient of 0.833, 0.922, respectively for the BSSO group, and 0.775, 0.799 for the Genio group. Conclusions: The results indicate that there is a significant difference between bilateral sagittal split osteotomy with or without genioplasty in the lower facial esthetics values. The combination of mandibular setback and genioplasty had a smaller change in soft tissue thickness of the symphysis area after surgery than that of mandibular setback only.

      • 수술 전 진단된 충수돌기 점액류종 1례

        Primary unruptured appendiceal mucocele is a rare disease. It is very difficult to diagnose preoperatively because of the rarity of classical symptoms and low incidence. Usually it is discovered incidentally during abdominal ultrasonography(US), computed tomography(CT), or appendectomy for acute appendicitis. If untreated, one type of mucoceles may rupture producing a potentially fatal entity known as pseudomyxoma peritonei, therefore preoperative diagnosis is very important. With the advent of colonoscopy, abdominal US and CT, it has been possible to preoperatively diagnose mucocele of appendix. We experienced a case of appendiceal mucocele in a 60 year-old woman who had symptoms of lower abdominal discomfort and right lower quadrant abdominal pain, and it was diagnosed preoperatively by colonoscopy, abdominal US and CT. So we present this case with review of literature.
