SPARK: A Smart Parametric Online RWA Algorithm
Palmieri, Francesco,Fiore, Ugo,Ricciardi, Sergio The Korea Institute of Information and Commucation 2007 Journal of communications and networks Vol.9 No.4
The large potential bandwidth available in wavelength-division multiplexed optical networks makes this technology of crucial importance for satisfying the ever increasing capacity requirements of the next-generation Internet. In this scenario, the routing and wavelength assignment(RWA) problem that concerns determining the optical paths and wavelengths to be used for connection establishment in a wavelength-routed network, is still one of the most important open issues. In this paper we propose a new online dynamic grooming-capable RWA heuristic scheme working on wavelength division multiplexing(WDM) networks as a multistage selection process. The proposed algorithm is transparent with respect to the presence of wavelength converters, achieves very low connection rejection ratios with minimal computational complexity and is appropriate for the modern multilayer optical circuit and wavelength switched networks with sparse wavelength conversion capability.

The present study was conducted to determine the best level of substitution of soybean meal by sunflower cake in diets for kids through the evaluation of quantitative carcass traits. Thirty-two Boer kids X 1/2 NDB (no defined breed), males, non-castrated, with 4 months of age and initial body weight of $15{\pm}3.2$ kg, were randomly assigned to individual pens. The treatments contained four substitution levels of soybean meal by sunflower cake (0, 33, 66 and 100% DM). At the end of the experimental period, the animals were slaughtered. There was no influence of the treatments on any of the mean values of the evaluated measures (p>0.05): 21.78 kg (body weight at slaughter), 8.65 kg (hot carcass weight), 8.59 kg (cold carcass weight), 40.27% (hot carcass yield), 39.20% (cold carcass yield), 7.73 $cm^2$ (rib eye area), 46.74 cm (carcass outer length), 45.68 cm (carcass internal length), 36.92 cm (leg length), 26.04 cm (leg perimeter), 48.66 cm (hind perimeter), 58.62 cm (thoracic perimeter), 0.20 (carcass compactness index), 68.48% (total muscle of the leg), 2.79% (total leg fat), 55.19% (subcutaneous leg fat), 28.82% (total bone), 81.66 g (femur weight), 14.88 cm (femur length), 0.38 (leg muscularity index), 2.53 (muscle:bone ratio) and 33.42 (muscle:fat ratio). The substitution of soybean meal by sunflower cake may be recommended up to a level of 100% without alterations to quantitative carcass traits.
Phenotypic and Genomic Characterization of AmpCProducing Klebsiella pneumoniae From Korea

The prevalence of multidrug-resistant gram-negative bacteria has continuously increased over the past few years; bacterial strains producing AmpC β-lactamases and/or extendedspectrum β-lactamases (ESBLs) are of particular concern. We combined high-resolution whole genome sequencing and phenotypic data to elucidate the mechanisms of resistance to cephamycin and β-lactamase in Korean Klebsiella pneumoniae strains, in which no AmpC-encoding genes were detected by PCR. We identified several genes that alone or in combination can potentially explain the resistance phenotype. We showed that different mechanisms could explain the resistance phenotype, emphasizing the limitations of the PCR and the importance of distinguishing closely-related gene variants.
Design Study of a Re-bunching RFQ for the SPES Project
신승욱,A. Palmieri,M. Comunian,F. Grespan,채종서 한국물리학회 2014 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.64 No.9
An upgrade to the 2nd generation of the selective production of exotic species (SPES) to produce aradioactive ion beam (RIB) has been studied at the istituto nazionale di fisica nucleare − laboratorynazionali di Legnaro (INFN-LNL). Due to the long distance between the isotope separator online(ISOL) facility and the superconducting quarter wave resonator (QWR) cavity acceleratorelineare per ioni (ALPI), a new re-buncher cavity must be introduced to maintain the high beamquality during the beam transport. A particular radio frequency quadrupole (RFQ) structure hasbeen suggested to meet the requirements of this project. A window-type RFQ, which has a highmode separation, less power dissipation and compact size compared to the conventional normal4-vane RFQ, has been introduced. The RF design has been studied considering the requirementsof the re-bunching machine for high figures of merit such as a proper operation frequency, a highshunt impedance, a high quality factor, a low power dissipation, etc. A sensitivity analysis of thefabrication and the misalignment error has been conducted. A micro-movement slug tuner has beenintroduced to compensate for the frequency variations that may occur due to the beam loading, thethermal instability, the microphonic effect, etc.
How to Develop the Periphery?: The Regional Integration Case of Basso-Ferrarese in Italy
( N. Melloni ),( G. Palmieri ),( A. Soci ) 세종대학교 경제통합연구소(구 세종대학교 국제경제연구소) 2011 Journal of Economic Integration Vol.26 No.3
This paper-a piece of the research output of the EU-funded project TERA-investigates the dynamics of development in the area of Basso Ferrarese, in Italy. The area is a relatively underdeveloped zone located in the otherwise wealthy Emilia Romagna. The first part of the paper identifies some area-specific factors affecting the poor economic performances of Basso-Ferrarese. In the second part, on the base of our findings, we run several CGE simulations focussing mainly on the potential impact of productivity gains. Finally, we discuss the policy implications of our results suggesting that investment in tourism and environmental and cultural heritage may allow for a more comprehensive path of development. Industrial development through productivity increase will have some positive effects which, however, will be mainly concentrated in relatively small areas.
Chemosis as complication in transconjunctival approach for orbital trauma
Sergio Olate,Celso Palmieri Jr,Má,rcio de Moraes 대한구강악안면외과학회 2017 대한구강악안면외과학회지 Vol.43 No.1
The aim of this report was to discuss a complication resulting from a transconjunctival approach to treating an orbital fracture. A 30-year-old male patient presented with a fracture to the zygomatic orbital complex. He was treated with transconjunctival conventional surgical treatment. Two days after surgical treatment, the patient presented with secondary chemosis which was initially slight and then subsequently worsened. The clinical situation was managed with topical and systemic corticosteroids and resolved within one postoperative month. Two-year follow-up showed ptosis of the upper eyelid and limited infraversion in the affected eye. This unusual complication associated with an orbital trauma was resolved with minor functional alterations, although the consequences observed after 2 years were not completely satisfactory.
Secure and Energy-Efficient Handover in Fog Networks Using Blockchain-Based DMM
Sharma, Vishal,You, Ilsun,Palmieri, Francesco,Jayakody, Dushantha Nalin K.,Li, Jun IEEE 2018 IEEE communications magazine Vol.56 No.5

Modern fog network architectures, empowered by IoT applications and 5G communications technologies, are characterized by the presence of a huge number of mobile nodes, which undergo frequent handovers, introducing a significant load on the involved network entities. Considering the distributed and flat nature of these architectures, DMM can be the only viable option for efficiently managing handovers in these scenarios. The existing DMM solutions are capable of providing smooth handovers, but lack robustness from the security point of view. Indeed, DMM depends on external mechanisms for handover security and uses a centralized device, which has obvious security and performance implications in flat architectures where hierarchical dependencies can introduce problems. We propose a new DMM schema based on the blockchain, capable of resolving hierarchical security issues without affecting the network layout, and also satisfying fully distributed security requirements with less consumption of energy.
