      • Involvement of FoxM1 in Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer Recurrence

        Background: Predictive biomarkers for lung cancer recurrence after curative tumor resection remain unclear. This study set out to assess the role of FoxM1 in the recurrence of non-small cell lung cancer. Methods: Immunohistochemistry for FoxM1 expression was performed on paraffin-embedded tumor tissues from 165 NSCLC patients. Association of FoxM1 expression with clinicopathological parameters and disease free survival were evaluated. Results: Our results indicated FoxM1 expression to be significantly associated with poorer tissue differentiation (P =0.03), higher TNM stage (P <0.01), lymph node metastasis (P <0.01), advanced tumor stage (P <0.01), and poorer disease free survival (P <0.01). Multivariable analysis showed that FoxM1 expression increased the hazard of recurrence (hazard ratio= 1.96, 95% CI, 1.04-3.17, P <0.05), indicating that FoxM1 is an independent and significant predictor of lung cancer recurrence. Conclusion: Therefore, FoxM1 is an independent risk factor for recurrence of NSCLC. Elevated FoxM1 expression could be used as an indicator of poor disease free survival.

      • Clinical Study of Tumor Angiogenesis and Perfusion Imaging Using Multi-slice Spiral Computed Tomography for Breast Cancer

        Objectives: To explore the correlation between multi-slice spiral CT (MSCT) perfusion parameters and the expression of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) as well as matrix metalloproteinase-2 (MMP-2) in breast cancer. Methods: Forty five breast cancer patients and 16 patients with benign breast tumor, both confirmed by pathology examination, were enrolled. All underwent MSCT perfusion imaging to obtain perfusion maps and data for parameters including blood flow (BF), blood volume (BV) and permeability surface (PS). Cancer patients did not receive treatment prior to surgery. The expression of VEGF and MMP-2 were examined with both immunohistochemistry and Western blotting. Results: The levels of VEGF and MMP-2 by immunohistochemistry were significantly higher in the breast cancer group (P < 0.01) than the benign tumor group. Relative OD values from Western blotting were also higher in cancer cases (P < 0.05). Similarly, the mean MSCT perfusion parameters (BF, BV, PS) were significantly higher in the breast cancer group (P < 0.01), BF and BV positively correlating with VEGF expression (r = 0.878 and 0.809 respectively, P < 0.01); PS and VEGF and MMP-2 expression were also positively correlated (r= 0.860, 0.786 respectively, P < 0.01). Conclusion: There is a correlation between breast cancer MSCT perfusion parameters and VEGF andMMP-2 expression, which might be useful for detection of breast lesions, qualitative diagnosis of breast cancer, and evaluation of breast cancer treatment.

        국내 중국인 유학생의 대학생활적응 어려움에 대한 질적 메타요약

        The present study integrated qualitative studies on the college maladjustment of Chinese international students in South Korea using a qualitative meta-summary. Existing qualitative studies explored the difficulties that Chinese international students encounter in-depth, but it was difficult to integrate their findings because they used different methods or studied different themes. Thus, this study used a qualitative meta-summary to identify more common and general themes emerging from the existing literature. A total of 15 studies were identified in academic database. Analysis yielded 603 statements and 39 abstracted statements. The difficulties that Chinese international students faced were categorized as language stressors, educational stressors, sociocultural stressors, discrimination, and practical stressors. The most frequent abstracted statements were discrimination, language differences, and interpersonal problems caused by psychological distance. The discussion compared Korea’s socio-cultural characteristics reflected on the findings with those of the United States. The implications for future research and the suggestions for the changes of university communities were discussed. 본 연구는 국내 중국인 유학생의 대학생활적응 어려움에 대한 질적 연구들을 대상으로 질적 메타요약을 실시하였다. 기존 국내 중국인 유학생의 대학생활적응에 대한 연구들은 이들의 경험을 심도 있게 탐색하였으나, 주제나 분석 방법이 이질적이라는 제한점을 가진다. 이에 본 연구에서는 기존 질적 연구의 결과에 대한 질적 메타요약을 실시하여 국내 중국인 유학생의 대학생활적응 어려움에 있어 보다 공통적이고 보편적으로 제시되는 핵심 내용이 무엇인지 파악하고자 하였다. 본 연구에서는 학술 DB 검색을 통해 총 15편의 연구물들을 분석하여 총 603개의 진술문과 39개의 축약 진술문을 산출하였다. 분석 결과, 국내 중국인 유학생들의 대학생활적응 어려움은 크게 언어적 스트레스, 교육적 스트레스, 사회문화적 스트레스, 차별, 실생활 스트레스로 분류되었으며 여러 연구에 걸쳐 가장 높은 빈도로 언급된 어려움은 차별, 언어 차, 심리적 거리감으로 인한 대인관계 영역에서의 적응 문제였다. 논의에서는 연구 결과에 반영된 한국의 사회문화적 특성들을 미국의 상황과 비교하여 살펴보았다. 본 연구의 함의 및 제한점을 바탕으로 후속적인 연구 수행을 제안하고 한국 대학 커뮤니티의 변화 방향에 대해 논의하였다.

        Multi-Sensor Multi-Target Passive Locating and Tracking

        The passive direction finding cross localization method is widely adopted in passive tracking, therefore there will exist masses of false intersection points. Eliminating these false intersection points correctly and quickly is a key technique in passive localization. A new method is proposed for passive locating and tracking multi-jammer target in this paper. It not only solves the difficulty of determining the number of targets when masses of false intersection points existing, but also solves the initialization problem of elastic network. Thus this method solves the problem of multi-jammer target correlation and the elimination of static false intersection points. The method which dynamically establishes multiple hypothesis trajectory trees solves the problem of eliminating the remaining false intersection points. Simulation results show that computational burden of the method is lower, the elastic network can more quickly find all or most of the targets and have a more probability of locking the real targets. This method can eliminate more false intersection points.

        A Multi-Mechanisms Composite Frequency Up-Conversion Energy Harvester

        In this paper, a novel broadband hybrid piezoelectric-electromagnetic-electrostatic energy harvester with frequency up conversion is proposed to improve the harvesting bandwidth and energy conversion efficiency. The designed device generates vibration energy with much higher frequency than ambient vibration frequency, which uses the magnet to impact periodically on the piezoelectric cantilever with the top electrode of electrostatic element. The dynamic model of the hybrid energy harvester is established, and performances are experimental tested under the sinusoidal excitation and practical application environment. The results show that multi-mechanisms composite structure can realize the complementary advantages of electrostatic-piezoelectric-electromagnetic mechanisms and improve the energy conversion efficiency effectively compared with a single harvesting mechanism. The fabricated harvester can output electric energy in the frequency range of 1–38 Hz, which significantly reduces frequency dependence, and the maximum power is measured to be 11.7 mW and 12 mW during cycling and walking respectively, which is the sum of the power generated by three different elements. Furthermore, the fabricated prototype can also light up six light-emitting diodes (LEDs) simultaneously when handy shaking.

        Expression of Human FGF18 by Fusion with Oleosin in Arabidopsis thaliana Seeds

        Expression of recombinant human fibroblast growthfactor 18 (hFGF18) in mammalian cells and Escherichia colihas been extensively used for fundamental research andclinical applications, but they are difficult, expensive. Theexpression of recombinant proteins fused to oleosin proteinhave distinct advantages, such as safety, ease, low cost. Sowe have expressed hFGF18 fused to oleosin protein in the oilbodies of Arabidopsis thaliana (A. thaliana) and screen theproliferation effect of NIH3T3 cells. The vector of oleosinhFGF18fusion gene was constructed and transformed intowild A. thaliana. Transformed A. thaliana lines were obtainedby the floral dip method and confirmed using polymerasechain reaction (PCR). The PCR results indicated that theoleosin-hFGF18 fusion gene was integrated into the A. thaliana genome. The oil bodies expression of oleosin-hFGF18was confirmed by sodium dodecyl sulfate polyacrylamidegel electrophoresis and western blotting. The biologicalactivity showed that oil bodies expressing oleosin-hFGF18could stimulate the proliferation of NIH3T3 cells.
