Two-dimensional Numerical Analysis on the Flow and Turbulence Structures in Artificial Dunes
Thi Hoang Thao Nguyen,이재룡,박성원,안정규 대한토목학회 2018 KSCE JOURNAL OF CIVIL ENGINEERING Vol.22 No.12
Turbulence is one of the decisive parameters that cause scouring in the river bed and threaten the foundation of hydraulic structures. And choosing the right turbulent modeling scheme is the key to simulate this flow property accurately. This study investigated a turbulent flow in a scour hole developed in a channel by using OpenFOAM toolbox. Two different turbulence schemes, k−ε and k−ω, were used to evaluate the performance of turbulent schemes in simulating the turbulence property in this complex region. Beside the main turbulence schemes, the difficulties in modeling the flow close to the wall also was solved by choosing the right wall function and boundary conditions. The results from these two models, the flow velocity profiles in streamwise and water-depth directions as well as the turbulent kinetic energy, were evaluated by comparing with the physical experimental data from previous research.
The Multiphase Flow Simulations of CO2 Plume and Jet under the Background Current

The Carbon Capture Storage (CCS) is considered as a promising atmospheric CO2 mitigation solution. There is some risk that the high concentrated carbon dioxide could be leaked accidentally from the CCS facilities. It requires making attention on the behavior of carbon dioxide (CO2) in the ocean. In particular, how such substances behave in the different phases (such as gaseous, liquid, hydrate or non-hydrate) should be understood with the forms of existences as like as in bubble/droplet form or CO2 lake. This study focused on the characteristics of liquid CO2 jet/plume in a near-field area mainly and investigated the behavior of a liquid CO2 jet/ plume released at 800 m depth using a series of numerical simulation. The numerical results were verified by comparing with the theoretical and previous experiments and showed a good agreement in appearance of bifurcation as well as the trajectory of the flow centerline. The present work described the development of CO2 flow, a turbulent buoyant fluid driven by concentration difference, both with time and spatial aspects. The dependency of jet/plume cross sectional areas on the Reynolds number, the centerline density distribution, the completely dissolving distance, and the characteristic of turbulent intensity and turbulent dissipation rate were also investigated.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>For this report, we compared interfacial spectroscopic tools to monitor in situ Fenton reactions of organic dyes on ascorbic acid-reduced gold nanostars (AuNSs). Ultraviolet-visible (UV–vis) absorption and Raman spectroscopic tools were introduced to check the hydroxyl radical destruction of ethyl violet (EV), which contains a triarylmethane group. AuNSs with sharp edges, tips, and corners were used as efficient surface-enhanced resonance Raman scattering (SERRS) substrates for in situ Fenton reaction monitoring. The SERRS intensity of the EV showed a first-order decay curve with a reaction rate constant value of 0.0263 min−1, while the decolorization yielded second-order kinetic behavior with a constant value of 0.00430 L/mol min. In addition to the destruction of the organic dyes, the increased number of ferric (III) ions, as a result of the Fenton reactions, was detected via 4-aminobenzo-15-crown-5 (4AB15C5) conjugated with 4-mercaptobenzoic acid (4MBA). We found that the SERRS bands at ∼1500 cm−1 of 4AB15C5 on AuNSs increased after treatment with H2O2 and FeSO4. Real industrial textile wastewater samples were then tested to determine whether this Raman method could be applied to detect increases in ferric ions. Our spectroscopic data used SERRS peaks via Fenton reaction results to calculate an estimated ∼65% destruction of the organic dyes.</P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>

In the context of the need to ensure appropriate signalling of the publication of high-quality, international-calibre publications in Vietnam, as well as new policies to improve the quality and effectiveness of scientific research in Vietnam, it is practical to investigate the possibility of developing a national open access database (NOAD). This study aims to answer the question of whether it is necessary to establish a NOAD in Vietnam. We used document analysis to evaluate issues related to NOADs. The results of this study show the complexity, lack of consistency, and difficulty in obtaining practical statistics and assessing research and scientific records in Vietnam today. Furthermore, the findings of this study imply that it is necessary to establish a NOAD of scientific research in Vietnam. The information in this report can be used to develop a NOAD for Vietnam in particular, and for any country that lacks one in general.

The purpose of the study is to analyze the significant impacts of expectations, performance, complaints, and fairness that affect consumer satisfaction. The methodology involves reviewing and referencing relevant literature carefully, then proposing a model for customer satisfaction. This study is empirically based on a survey with 50 respondents who work in the field of import and export in the region stretching from the north to the south of Vietnam. The sampling method used in this study is the in-depth interview method. The results show that: (1) expectation has a specific impact on customer satisfaction, (2) performance has a positive impact on customer satisfaction, and (3) complaint which is an intermediary factor between expectation, performance, and fairness has an impact on satisfaction, (4) fairness has a positive effect on satisfaction, in addition, fairness is an extremely important feature when customers choose an import-export service. Research implies that increasing expectations, performance, and fairness results in an improved customer experience and satisfaction when they use the service. It is suggested that the complaint factor continue to be studied and looked into because it still has some effect on satisfaction and is an intermediate variable that changes how the other factors relate to each other.

Despite the diverse roles of singlet oxygen ( 1 O2) in plants and animals, simple detection of 1 O2 has been limited due to technical difficulties. Here we report a colorimetric method for visualizing the generation and suppression of 1 O2 using a protein photosensitizer, mini singlet oxygen generator (miniSOG). Upon external light irradiation, miniSOG strongly produced 1 O2 and oxidized a universal chromogenic reagent, tetramethylbenzidine, leading to a rapid color change in solution. We used this finding to demonstrate the 1 O2 scavenging effects of well-known antioxidants and of natural compounds extracted from plants. Owing to its high usability and simplicity, our developed assay platform will be useful for screening potential scavengers for reactive oxygen species and will promote the development of various antioxidants.
