        The purpose of this study was to explore the effect of diabetic camp program on depression, self-efficacy and self-esteem of the juvenile diabetic patients who had participated diabetic camp program at Seoul and Kyung In area from August 5 to August 9, 1995. It was compared the change of depression, self efficacy and self-esteem right after participating the program, 6 and 12 month. Nursing staffs explained them how to respond to the questionnaire of depression, self-efficacy and self-esteem. The questionnaire of depression, self-efficacy and self-esteem was especially developed by both dibetes mellitus nurse specialist and pediatric nursing progessors for this study. Elementary school students are asked to response yes or no questionnarie. We asked the 5 lidert scale questionnaire for the both middle and high school students. Paired t-test was used to compare the difference right after the diabetic camp program, 6 and 12 month. Depression decreased right after participating the program, while self-esteem increased significantly following the program in elementary school students. And after the camp, there was o change in depression and self-esteem scores 6 and 12 month. There was no change in self-esteem and self-efficacy right after the camp, 6 and 12 month in middle and high school students. The result suggests that diabetic camp program could be the effective way to decrease depression and to increase self-efficacy and self-esteem, which has continued effect of diabetic camp program on depression, self-efficacy and self-esteem after 6 and 12 onth of the diabetic camp.

        대학생들의 우울장애에 관한 연구 : 유병율, 위험요인, 자살행동 및 기능장애

        Objectives : The purpose of this study was to investigate the prevalence and correlates of major and minor depressive disorders in college students. Methods : A cross-sectional study was completed on a sample of 906 students (507 men and 399 women) with the self-administered form of Korean version of Mini International Neuropsychiatric Interview (K-MINI). Results : Estimated 12-month prevalence of major depressive disorder was 4.2% in men and 9.5% in women, and that of minor depressive disorder was 15.4% in men and 23.2% in women. The factors, 'female gender' and 'age of 20-21', were significantly associated with major depressive disorder. 'Poor adaptation to school' was significantly associated with major depressive disorder both in men and women, but 'poor interpersonal relationship' and 'history of school withdrawal' were associated only in men. Idea of self-injury and suicidal behaviors (suicidal ideation, plan and attempt) were significantly associated with major depressive disorder in women, but were not associated with minor depressive disorder. Conclusion : Major and minor depressive disorders are highly prevalent in the college students. Major depressive disorder was more associated with dysfunctions and suicidal behaviors than minor depressive disorder. Campus-based mental health service is needed for the high-risk students.

        대학생들의 자살관련행동에 관한 연구

        Objectives : This study evaluated the prevalence of suicide-related behaviors (suicidal ideation, plan and attempt) and the status of depression, anxiety and function in college students. Methods : A cross-sectional study was completed to a sample of 880 students with the self-administered form of Korean version of the Mini International Neuropsychiathc Interview (K-MINI), Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) and Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI). Results : Estimated lifetime prevalence of suicidal ideation was 39.2%, that of suicidal plan was 4.7% and that of suicidal attempt was 3.0%. Students with any suicide-related behaviors showed higher lifetime prevalence of major and minor depression, higher BDI and BAI scores, and poor intemersonal relationship, adaptation to college life and physical health compared to the students with no suicide-related behaviors. The average points of grades during their college life were not significantly different according to kinds of suicide-related behaviors they expehenced (F=0.39, P=0.82). 96% of suicidal attempters did not use mental health services. Conclusion : Results suggest that a high proportion of college students experience suicide-related behaviors. The Stu-dents who had experienced suicide-related behaviors showed higher depression and anxiety and poorer function compared to students with no suicide-related behaviors. Most of suicidal attempters, however, did not use mental health service Establishing campus mental health system is necessary to early detect mental health problems and to prevent suicide of college students.

      • 석탄폐석의 흡착능 개발 및 흡착제로의 활용방안 연구

        본 연구는 폐기물의 형태로 현재 산과 계곡에 투기되어 있는 석탄페석을 이용하여 중금속 흡착과 난분해성 COD 및 색도제거 가능성을 검토하고, 간단한 열처리를 통한 흡착능 개발 실험을 위하여 수행되었다. 실험 결과 천연상태의 석탄폐석은 약 20∼30%의 중금속 흡착능을 지니고 있는 것으로 나타났으며, 탄화 공정인 간단한 열처리 만으로도 약 2 ∼ 5배의 흡착능 향상이 이루어졌다. 그리고 석탄폐석의 열처리 조건 변화에 따른 중금속 흡착능 실험에서는 500℃ 에서 6시간 반응시킨 것이 가장 우수하였다. 칼럼실험에 있어 기존의 입상활성탄 보다 처리효율이 저조하나 석탄폐석은 무가공 상태로도 약 30 ∼ 60%의 COD 및 색도를 제거할 수 있었다. 500℃에서 6시간 열처리된 폐석의 컬럼실험에서 생물학적 유출수의 색도 제거에 우수함을 알 수 있었으며, 중금속 및 COD제거에 있어서는 여과 속도에 따라 많은 차이를 보였다. 본 연구에서는 열처리 공정만 적용한 기초 실험이였으나, 석탄폐석의 흡착제 개발의 가능성을 알 수 있었으며, 활성화 공정을 적용할 경우 흡착능은 더욱 향상될 것으로 판단된다. This reaserch aims to remove the heavy metals, NBDCOD, and color using the coal waste. The expermental by heat treatment. was performed to advance the adsorption capacity. The results are as follows ; ⅰ) The coal waste had the adsorption capacity of heavy metals and the rates were in the range of 20 to 30 percents. ⅱ) The heat treatment was the optimum condition that the reaction time was 6 hours at 500 ℃. ⅲ) In the column experimental, non-treated coal waste removed the COD and color in the range of 20 to 60 percents. ⅳ) Heat-treated coal waste showed the high removal rate of the color in biological effluent, but heavy metal and COD removal rates were changed by the filteration rates.

      • Somatic Embryogenesis and Plant Regeneration from Hypocotyl of Common Buckwheat (Fagopyrum esculentum Moench.)

        Buckwheat sprout is used as vegetable, and also flour for making noodles, and so on. Currently, information about tissue culture in buckwheat is limited and restricted to micropropagation. We carried out somatic embryogenesis and plant regeneration using hypocotyl segments as explant of the cultivated buckwheat species Fagopyrum esculentum, differs from existing studies in the growth regulator combinations used. Maximum callus regeneration was induced on MS medium containing 2,4-D(2.0 mg/L) and benzylaminopurine BAP (1.0 mg/L) and 3% sucrose. Friable callus was transferred to solidified MS media containing BAP (1.0 mg/L) and at various concentrations for the induction of embryogensis. The optimum concentrations of additives were IAA (2 mg/L), KIN(1.0 mg/L), BAP (1.0 mg/L), and 3% (w/v) sucrose. Only 2,4-D did not show any significant effect on callus induction or embryogenesis. Regeneration of embryonic callus varied from 5 % to 20%. Whole plants were obtained at high frequencies when the embryogenic calluses with somatic embryos and organized shoot primordia were transferred to MS media with 3% sucrose. Regenerated plants after acclimation will transfer to green house. The main objective of this research was to develop a efficient protocol for plant regeneration for common buckwheat, and to apply in future for genetic transformation.

      • Versatile approaches to tune a nanocolumnar structure for optimized electrical properties of In<sub>2</sub>O<sub>3</sub> based gas sensor

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>In this study, we demonstrate tuning of electrical properties and sensing responses of In<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB> nanocolumnar structure via varying glancing angle (GLAD) deposition conditions by e-beam evaporator. The varied deposition conditions include glancing angle, vacuum level and deposition rate. The electrical property of In<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB> nanostructured thin films, demonstrated by the base resistance, change up to 3 orders of magnitude from 110Ω to 103104Ω depending on the porosity of nanocolumnar structure and oxygen vacancy concentration. This variation in electrical property transfers to the tuning of gas sensing response, and we achieve tuning the same material (In<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB>) based gas sensors to better perform for specific type of gases (either oxidizing or reducing). The highest responses achieved in this work reached up to 176 for oxidizing gases (5ppm NO<SUB>2</SUB>, R<SUB>gas</SUB>/R<SUB>air</SUB>) and 929 for reducing gases (50ppmC<SUB>2</SUB>H<SUB>5</SUB>OH, R<SUB>air</SUB>/R<SUB>gas</SUB>). Therefore, we demonstrate that gas sensors can be optimized for specific type of target gases with the same material, via simple control of deposition conditions. Along with the high reproduciblility and sensitivity, this puts the nanocolumnar thin film based gas sensors by GLAD with huge potential for further miniaturization and mass production, suitable for the upcoming IoT era.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Nanocolumnar In<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB> thin film based gas sensor is fabricated by glancing angle deposition (GLAD). </LI> <LI> Electrical properties of In<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB> can be optimized for specific target gases, tuning simple deposition conditions of GLAD. </LI> <LI> In<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB> sensors have excellent performances with high repeatability, recovery, and extremely low detection limit. </LI> </UL> </P>

        Research Note : Effect of Color of Light Emitting Diode on Development of Fruit Body in Hypsizygus marmoreus

        This study was conducted to identify a suitable color of light for development of the fruit body in Hypsizygus marmoreus. To accomplish this, samples were irradiated with blue (475 nm), green (525 nm), yellow (590 nm), or red (660 nm) light emitting diodes (LEDs) to induce the formation of fruiting bodies after mycelia growth. The diameter and thickness of the`pileus and length of stipes in samples subjected to blue LED treatment were similar to those of subjected to fluorescent light (control), and the lengths of the stipes were highest in response to treatment with the red LED and darkness. The commercial yields of plants subjected to blue and green LED treatment were similar to those of the control. In conclusion, cultivation of H. marmoreus coupled with exposure to blue LED is useful for inducing high quality fruit bodies as well as higher levels of ergosterol, DPPH radical scavenging activity, total polyphenol content and reducing power.
