To achieve the good densification of SiC plate at low temperature, the effect and behaviour of V2O5 added for sintering agent was studied. By adding V2O5 powder fairly good wetability between SiC particles improved densification, but V2O5 was removed toward surface after sintering. After sintering, to get a better strength, the effect of clay content was investigated. and about 0.3wt% of clay content was suitable for getting a good strength. Addition of large amount of clay and V2O5 powder was good for getting a high sintering density, but the bending was happened during liquid phase sintering so that to protect bending suitable content of clay and V2O5 powder was studied.

This paper aims to explore the relationship between English literature and language teaching. It is often said that teaching English literature does not have a great influence on improving English skills. It is mainly because teachers concentrate on analysing literary works in terms of literary theory and translating English text into Korean. According to recent research, literature is suitable for student-centered education. It is also suitable for a whole language approach, by which four language skills can be developed at the same time. Given that the affective side of language learning contributes in a significant way to enriching learners' language learning, we would like to propose the need for integrating a humanistic approach in this paper. This paper shows that teaching literature based ON AFFECTIVE SIDE OF LEARNER is characterized by cooperative and interactional activities in their relation to such factors as self-esteem, autonomy, and motivation. This paper suggests a paradigmatic shift from traditional approach to affective approach through English literature which emphasizes process, self-esteem, social skills, cooperative learning, dynamic curriculum, intrinsic motivation, meaning based activities. It is important to select a suitable text for increasing a learner's spontaneous pleasure in reading. Literary works written by major authors but not difficult for language learners are recommended in that they satisfy the need of both the course and the learners.

Recent advances in both the diagnosis and treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma have improved the prognosis and changed the clinical significance of the recently increasing distant metastases. Distant metastases found after successful treament of the primary lesions are of great clinical significance for the treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma. The duodenum is a rare site of hematogenous metastases or direct invasion from hepatocellular carcinoma. A 23 year old man was admitted with upper gastrointestinal bleeding. He had been diagnosed with hepatocellular carcinoma and treated by a left lobectomy and chemoembolization. The patient was admittted for 12 months after the treatment of the primary tumor. Endoscopic examination revealed a mass in the duodenal bulb that protruded into the lumen. He died due to massive hematemesis. We report on a rare case of hepatocellular carcinoma with duodenal invasion in a 23-year-old male patient.

Background/Aims: Esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) and colorectal neoplasms (CRNs) share risk factors. We aimed to investigate whether the CRN risk is increased in ESCC patients. Methods: ESCC patients who underwent a colonoscopy within 1 year of diagnosis were retrospectively analyzed. Patients were matched 1:3 by age, gender, and body mass index to asymptomatic controls. CRN was defined as the histological confirmation of adenoma or adenocarcinoma. Advanced CRN was defined as any of the following: ≥3 adenomas, high-grade dysplasia, villous features, tumor ≥1 cm, or adenocarcinoma. The risk factors for both CRN and advanced CRN were evaluated by univariate and multivariate analyses. Results: Sixty ESCC patients were compared with 180 controls. The ESCC group had significantly higher numbers of CRNs (odds ratio [OR], 2.311; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.265 to 4.220; p=0.006) and advanced CRNs (OR, 2.317; 95% CI, 1.185 to 4.530; p=0.013). Significant risk factors for both CRN and advanced CRN by multivariate analysis included ESCC (OR, 2.157, 95% CI, 1.106 to 4.070, p=0.024; and OR, 2.157, 95% CI, 1.045 to 4.454, p=0.038, respectively) and older age (OR, 1.068, 95% CI, 1.032 to 1.106, p<0.001; and OR, 1.065, 95% CI, 1.024 to 1.109, p=0.002, respectively). Conclusions: The rates of CRN and advanced CRN are significantly increased in ESCC. Colonoscopy should be considered at ESCC diagnosis. (Gut Liver 2016;10:76-82)

Our aim was to investigate whether CRN risk is increased in ESCC patients. Methods: We reviewed ESCC patients who had colonoscopy within 1 year of diagnosis. Patients were matched 1:3 by age, gender, and body mass index (BMI) to asymptomatic controls. CRN was defi ned as histological confi rmation of adenoma or adenocarcinoma. Advanced CRN was defi ned as any of the following: =3 adenomas, high-grade dysplasia, villous features, adenocarcinoma, or tumor =1 cm. Risk factors for both CRN and advanced CRN were evaluated by univariate and multivariate analysis. Results: 626 patients were diagnosed with ESCC; 540 were excluded because they did not have colonoscopy. Fourteen did not have colonoscopy within 1 year of ESCC diagnosis and 12 had incomplete examinations. The 60 patients in the ESCC group had signifi cantly higher numbers of CRNs (OR 2.311, 95% CI 1.265-4.220, P = 0.006) and advanced CRNs (OR 2.317, 95% CI 1.185-4.530, P = 0.013). ESCC, males, older age, higher BMI, and higher triglyceride level were signifi cant risk factors of CRN by univariate analysis. Multivariate analysis revealed signifi cant risk factors of CRN as ESCC (OR 2.157; 95% CI 1.106-4.070; P = 0.024) and older age (OR 1.068; 95% CI 1.032-1.106; P < 0.001). In advanced CRN patients, ESCC, older age, diabetes, and total cholesterol level were signifi cant risk factors by univariate analysis. Multivariate analysis showed that ESCC (OR 2.157; 95% CI 1.045-4.454; P = 0.038) and older age (OR 1.065; 95% CI 1.024-1.109; P = 0.002) were signifi cant advanced CRN risk factors. Conclusions: The risks of CRN and advanced CRN are increased signifi cantly in ESCC. Colonoscopy should be considered at ESCC diagnosis.

Energy transfer direction in $Er^{3+}-Tm^{3+}$-codoped fluorozirconate glasses has been studied. For $Er^{3+}-Tm^{3+}$-codoped glasses, the dependence of the green emission intensity on the pump power (Pex) of 800 nm has ranged from (Pex)$^2$ to (Pex)$^3$. From this multistep absorption, a 1.48 $\mu m$ emission from the $^3F_4{\rightarrow}^3H_4$ transition on Tm$^{3+}$ ion has been found to transfer into $^4I_{13/2}$, $^4I_{9/2}$ and $^4S_{3/2}$ on $Er^{3+}$ ion. In case of the 1.06 $\mu m$ pumping, the emissin ratio of $^3H_4$ level in $Tm^{3+}$ to $^4I_{13/2}$ in $Er^{3+}$ showed that the amount of the energy transfer from $Tm^{3+}$ into $Er^{3+}$ increased with the increasing concentration of $Tm^{3+}$ ion. Our two kinds of pumping scheme suggest that the direction of dominant energy transfer between $Er^{3+}$ and $Tm^{3+}$ should be dependent on whether the $^3F_4$ level resonates in $Tm^{3+}$ the level or not.

<P>The overexpression of a single tyrosinase gene can induce conspicuous pigmentation in nonpigmented cells. We hypothesized that some unknown tyrosinase-associated genes are simultaneously regulated by melanin synthesis. To improve understanding of melanogenesis and tyrosinase-associated functions, we attempted to profile the genes that are altered during melanin production in HEK293 cells by using a functional DNA chip microarray. The candidate genes were obtained based on significance analysis of microarray (SAM) and further computational prediction via protein-protein interaction (PPI) mapping suggested that newly detected hub genes were involved in melanogenesis. PPI mapping using bioinformatic tools revealed 8 genes that formed an interaction hub. The yeast two-hybridization results suggested some candidate genes could interact with tyrosinase. The present study provides information to further understand the complex factors associated with tyrosinase-induced melanogenesis and apoptosis. The approach of combining expression data analysis and predicted protein interaction partners can help identify genes involved in pigmentation.</P>

Novel tools are needed for efficient analysis and visualization of the massive data sets associated with metabolomics. Here, we describe a batch-learning self-organizing map (BL-SOM) for metabolome informatics that makes the learning process and resulting map independent of the order of data input. This approach was successfully used in analyzing and organizing the metabolome data for Arabidopsis thaliana cells cultured under salt stress. Our 6 × 4 matrix presented patterns of metabolite levels at different time periods. A negative correlation was found between the levels of amino acids and metabolites related to glycolysis metabolism in response to this stress. Therefore, BL-SOM could be an excellent tool for clustering and visualizing high dimensional, complex metabolome data in a single map.
